So it's now closer to the time I'm going to be start buying parts. I've never owned a personal desktop before and I never paid any attention to it til now. I'm planning to buy most (if not all) parts on amazon (that's available) during the huge sale that's going to happen on the 12th. Right now, this is my current build: PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant CPU: Intel Core i5-4690 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor •($214.99 @ SuperBiiz) Motherboard: MSI H81I Mini ITX LGA1150 Motherboard •($63.98 @ NCIX US) Memory: Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory •($50.99 @ Newegg) Storage: Samsung 840 EVO 120GB 2.5" Solid State Drive •(Purchased For $0.00) Video Card: Sapphire Radeon R9 290 4GB Tri-X OC Video Card •($263.98 @ Newegg) Case: Cooler Master Elite 130 Mini ITX Tower Case •($29.99 @ Newegg) Power Supply: EVGA 600B 600W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply •(Purchased For $0.00) Other: 1tb 7200rpm (Purchased) Total: $611.93 Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available Generated by PCPartPicker 2015-07-02 14:26 EDT-0400 I have the PSU and the harddrives (Thinking about getting another SSD 250gb during sale) How does it look? I'll mostly playing csgo, but I want to play other games that I've never touched on my steam library :v I also have no plans on overclocking It says the case can hold 3 INTERNAL 3.5" BAYS. Does that mean I can put an ssd in there too? Oh my budget would be around $700 w/o tax
It's a good guild but 120Gb isn't enough in my opinion. I tend to use over 300 with only a few games installed. Also, the 290 is pretty good but I'd go for the GTX 960. It's more power efficient and generally does a better job. Plus, more games support Nvidia GPUs.

Hey folks, what's a decent upgrade from a GTX 560ti? Tired of this 1 gb of VRAM. [editline]2nd July 2015[/editline] Also, whats should I upgrade? [img_thumb]http://i.cubeupload.com/WtXaBe.jpg[/img_thumb]

[img_thumb]http://i.cubeupload.com/WtXaBe.jpg[/img_thumb]
Get a GTX 760 to replace your GPU, or go for a 960 if you don't mind spending a little more. Also, you should get a good i5 with a clock speed around > 3GHz. Before upgrading though, talk to your local PC place (in my case, PC World) about things like your motherboard and PSU.

Hello, a friend of mine bought an MSI AMD Radeon R9 270X graphics card for his VIBOX Ultra 11W PC and we determined 350W would not be enough to make this PC function properly : I was thinking about a 500W PSU. Here are the specs :
Motherboard : GIGABYTE GA-F2A55M-HD2 CPU : AMD A8-5600K with AMD Radeon HD 7560D APU GPU : MSI AMD Radeon R9 270X RAM : Zeppelin 1600MHz 8GB Hard-drive : TOSHIBA 1Tb DT01ACA100 7200RPM 1x Optical Drive Case : Vibox Shark (Not sure ?) PSU : FSP350-50GMN - 350W
Thus, I am looking for recommendations on a quality 500W PSU that he could use in his PC. If more information is required, I'll gladly give it.

what do you think about me replacing my r9 290 with this? http://www.evga.com/Products/Product.aspx?pn=04G-P4-3975-RX
Nope
is there something wrong with it? or it's not worth the price & performance difference?
You'd be paying $350 for a few frames
You'd be paying $350 for a few frames
? it says $259.99
Oh wow, that's actually a really good price. But I still don't think it's worth it. Wait for the next gen of cards, yours should be holding up fine. And if it's struggling with whatever game/resolution you're running at, a 970 isn't going to make a big difference.
isn't $260 the b-stock price or is that actually on sale for $260 and the card is gonna be for his build he posted on the last page, which his current build he plans on getting a r9 290 ya that is "b-stock" price which they usually run out of stock within 2 days or so, and then have another b-stock sale the next week. I believe this is the 3rd b-stock sale they've had in the past 2 weeks. people on reddit have ordered them though and said they're perfectly fine, maybe a small scratch on the card or a dent on the box :v: $260 is good for a SSC 970 either way
Oh I didn't realize that. Yeah, get the 970 then.
I decided to look more into the monitor I posted earlier after getting a good opinion on it. https://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=31511 And discovered that it has literally no reviews anywhere, is this odd?
What is the difference between an i3 4160 + GTX 960 and an i3 4160 + GTX 970? I've got an R7 260x atm but I'll be upgrading with my birthday money.

I've got an R7 260x atm but I'll be upgrading with my birthday money.
The 970 is where you'll start to hit some potential issues of not using the 970 to it's fullest potential. In heavily single threaded and GPU bound games, you'll still be fine. But you may want to look into a 4460 or similar with a 970.
hi PCBT, whats the prospects of putting together a laptop? little sis has a hefty budget ($1000) to spend and I wanted to know if it is doable; I just don't know the hardware that well. I've said it may as well be worth investing in a desktop but space is limited so that's why a laptop may have to do.

My friends building a new desktop, and he's got a few questions. What SSD/HDD brand would you recommend? He's looking for a ~250 GB SSD, and ~500 GB HDD. Is there anything we need to keep in mind when looking for RAM, mainly compatibility issues? Same for motherboards? He's settled on an Intel Core i5 4690, thanks to gman003-main, so we know we need a motherboard that's compatible with that, but is there anything else to watch out for? He's planning to get a GeForce GTX 960, so would the stock fans that come with the case be sufficient with the stock heatsink that comes with the processor? Finally, any advice on power supplies? Sorry for asking so much at once but we're clueless. Total budget is ~1000, btw. He already has a monitor, keyboard, mouse, and an external wireless thing, so those wont affect the cost.
For the mobo and psu, it really depends on whether or not you plan on doing SLI (two graphics cards) in the future, if yes, you can pick up a z87 or z97 board like a gigabyte gaming 5 and a 650w psu. If you're not doing sli, an h97 board will save you some cash and perform just as well. As well as a 500w psu. You can pick up pretty much any ram that's DDR3 compatible for your computer, 4Gb is the bare minumum, 8Gb is perfect for gaming, and 16Gb+ is for rendering, video editing and some insane task work. For storage, I'd say either wd caviar blues for basic work or caviar blacks for performance, and for SSD's, crucial mx100 is pretty good. If you have the non-overclockable (non-k) variant cpu, then the stock cooler should serve you just fine unless you want to build a super silent rig. (If you do happen to have a 4690k, note that z97 boards can overclock, but h97 boards cannot) Which case do you have btw? I would highly recommend taking a look at the amd r9 390 or the nvidia 970 though, for $100 more, they can put out some serious 1080p performance, but you'll have to increase the wattage on the psu.
advice
Thanks for the recommended builds, he says he doesn't plan on using SLI or overclocking, and unless anyone has any objections he's probably gonna use the parts you recommended. He's planning on buying this case. As for the HP computer, I'll show it to him tomorrow (it's 2 am here), but I don't see anything about a 250 rebate, are you sure there is one? I went as far as shipping on checkout, maybe it'll show up on payment or place order but I didn't wanna put in any shipping details to continue. Also like I said, it's 2 am so I wont be responding for a while.
Received my stuff, went for Gigabyte Z97X-Gaming 5 mobo and EVGA SuperNOVA G2 750W psu instead. Will build it tomorrow night after I've finished work so pc has chance to cool. 212 evo is bigger than I thought, as is the can of duster i bought :v:
