Thanks for the recommended builds, he says he doesn't plan on using SLI or overclocking, and unless anyone has any objections he's probably gonna use the parts you recommended. He's planning on buying this case. As for the HP computer, I'll show it to him tomorrow (it's 2 am here), but I don't see anything about a 250 rebate, are you sure there is one? I went as far as shipping on checkout, maybe it'll show up on payment or place order but I didn't wanna put in any shipping details to continue. Also like I said, it's 2 am so I wont be responding for a while.
here's the rebate listing https://slickdeals.4myrebate.com/?oc=SKD-10056 and instructions to redeem it http://slickdeals.net/article/news/how-to-ensure-successful-slickdeals-rebate-submissions/

I'd go with the second build he listed, but swap the 960 for a 970.
Radeon 7850(?) to R9 290X, a 2GB difference. I put the question mark because im not sure anymore and I dont think it matters to much. The 7850 was a great card and has lasted for almost 4 years. I'm not even replacing it because its broke, its still works great (a little loud and hot but it works). I just cant play games like I want to anymore. 10/10 would recommend. I would be playing right now but I don't have the DVI-D to VGA adapter for my monitors so I have to wait until Monday to get them :( Also got a Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO. Its huge and almost doesn't fit in my mid tower case.

He's pretty much finalized the build I think, he's gonna build it himself, get 16 GB RAM and go with the 960 4GB last I heard. Thanks again to everyone for all the help. Actually, he's not asking, but I wanna know, should the 960 be good for ~3 years? Not like maxing stuff, just running just about any game on mid settings at 30+ FPS?
Yesterday and today after I come home from work, I just can't be arsed building a pc y'know \:v:/ Got a day off tomorrow though
Forgot to reply earlier, thanks, he decided to use the case you recommended. I currently have an AMD 6970 What modern card would be a good upgrade for 1080p stuff? And for that card which non-reference version would be best? (Budget of £500ish)
What's a better choice: an Antec Three Hundred Two for $60 or an Antec Sonata Proto for $40? Both cases are used and I'm planning on using them for a secondary build from spare parts for Lan party's and stuff
So I built my pc and it all ran well, however my case fans aren't running as I think I forgot. Where the hell do I connect the tiny fan connectors? I have a "perif" wire coming from psu but no idea how to connect the two together [editline]6th July 2015[/editline] Okay never mind I found the adapter still connected to my old psu [editline]6th July 2015[/editline] What a nobhead I look, pc only saw 4gb ram so i reopened my pc and forgot I had one stick in an entirely different channel :v: it wasn't even clicked in, just balancing. Forgot I was testing to see if it'd fit with my 212 evo.
The GTX 960 has to be one of my greatest birthday presents of all time. [thumb]http://www.fudzilla.com/images/stories/2015/Reviews/Graphics/Nvidia/Maxwell/GTX_960/EVGA_SSC_4GB/IMG_0592.JPG[/thumb]
did u take that pic in ur bathtub
No but Fudzilla probably did.
did u take that pic in ur bathtub
lol i saw that on reddit last night totally works.
So, some of my parts came in. However, I ran into a problem. I was taking the metal heat-sinks off the RAM to make-way for the liquid cooling blocks... and I broke one! I will have to spend more money to replace it... Not really a "help me" thing, but misery loves company :c [editline]6th July 2015[/editline] Will post pics if requested.
I snagged a GTX980 at the local Fry's Electronics and noticed they had a promo going on where you get Witcher 3 with your card. While at the counter buying my stuff I asked about it, and the guy said he would check it out once I got rung up. After the deed was done and I already bought the card he told me to go back to the GPU section of the store and have them handle the promo, so I did, only to find they no longer give you a code or a box in store, but instead write your email and order number on a piece of paper and email it to nVidia where it is manually activated and a code is emailed to you. Now I'm just sitting around waiting and hoping they actually send the stupid thing. What kind of convoluted system is this? What happened to just putting a code on the receipt?
The last two components of my system - the case and the power supply - arrived today, so tonight i'm gonna build it. Not sure where to begin, though. I'm assuming the order is something like: 1. Motherboard 2. RAM 3. CPU 4. CPU Cooler 5. Graphics Card 6. Hard Drive(s) 7. Power Supply [sp]I also had a nasty shock when I couldn't find the screws and cable ties - turns out corsair puts them in a box in the hard drive bays, the fuckers[/sp]
Tell me how that case works out for your build. I'm seriously considering it but it has no rubber thingies to hold the cables and that seems like an annoyance. Please be objective though, regardless of having bought it don't go "It's amazing because I bought it" etc..
I'm following the newegg build and I've reached the point in the open-box stage where I need to put the power connectors into my graphics card. He wants to put it in with a 3+3, followed by a 3+3 + 2. However, my graphics card has two 3+3 + 2 instead! How do I put in the power supply??? Pic for reference: [t]http://i.imgur.com/HVmiRjk.jpg[/t] I'm not sure where to plug in the ports, and if choosing the order of them counts. Please help soon, I'm stuck at this point. [editline]7th July 2015[/editline] Ok, I think I managed to get it, but now when I try to run the computer I get: 'CPU FAN ERROR! Press F1 to setup' How do I fix this? The fan is running fine. [editline]7th July 2015[/editline] Ok, it turns out I'm a dumdum and I plugged the CPU fan into the wrong, conventionally-shaped port.
If you need any further help, add me up on steam or something. Glad to help if needed.
Did what I could to manage the cables on a non-modular power supply, with a case that has no room behind the motherboard tray for anything bigger than the case accessory cables. [t]http://i.imgur.com/79x9Q53.jpg[/t] i5 4460 R9 280X Maximus VI GENE Cooler Master Silencio 352
What happened to the Intel sticker on the heatsink?
Took it off because it didn't match the red, you can see it on the left. Then I realized the graphics card PCB was blue so the build doesn't match anyway. The case doesn't have a window so I said "fuckit".

Why would you want LEDs?
Because it's ~hardcore~

After spending years using the stock cooler, my 212 evo has made everything so cooler and quieter.
Isn't that psu supposed to not be that good?
Meh, the coil whine in my used CX500M I got off eBay is pretty bad, but it's been goin' and goin' in my HTPC 24/7/365 for the past two years.
Hey guys first time building a PC, I followed a build I found online that looked interesting and after changing a few things around this is what I got: Case: Corsair Carbide Series SPEC-01 Mid Tower Gaming Case CC-9011050-WW Motherboard: Asus Z97 PRO GAMER ATX LGA1150 Motherboard RAM: Corsair Vengeance 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 1600 MHz (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory (CMZ16GX3M2A1600C10) CPU: Intel Core BX80646I74790K i7-4790K Processor (8M Cache, up to 4.40 GHz) Graphics Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 960 4GB Super SC ACX 2.0+ with Back Plate GDDR5 128bit, PCI-E 3.0, DVI-I, 3 x DP, HDMI, SLI, HDCP, G-SYNC Ready Graphics Cards 04G-P4-3966-KR Hard Drive: Kingston Digital 240GB SSDNow V300 SATA 3 2.5 (7mm height) Solid State Drive (SV300S37A/240G) + WD Blue 1TB Desktop 3.5 Inch SATA 6Gb/s 7200rpm Internal Hard Drive Power Supply: Corsair CX Series 750 Watt ATX/EPS Modular 80 PLUS Bronze ATX12V/EPS12V 744 Power Supply CX750M Feedback appreciated, but the reason I'm posting here is because I need an alternative for the motherboard because I can't get that particular model without getting robbed by the shipping. I'm looking for something that is sold directly by amazon so that I can get the parts all at once in a single package, and they usually have very good shipping prices. Motherboards are one of the things I absolutely don't know anything about, so I really don't know what to look for to get something similar

That makes sense, I'll probably go for the 970, the price on the 980 seems a bit overkill
ye, 960 really isn't that great for the price. a r9 280 would perform better, or then you could go for the 970/290/etc. [editline]7th July 2015[/editline] i bought a 960 SSC 2GB for $200 and after a month and a half I stepped up to the 970.
Anyone here know stuff about the skylake processors? Like, what kind of pricerange are they gonna be on release? How is the release going to affect prices of the current intel processors? Should i wait for skylake before building my pc? Also another question, Does anybody know if gtx 970/980 is going to drop in price anytime soon?
