Anyone here know stuff about the skylake processors?
Like, what kind of pricerange are they gonna be on release?
How is the release going to affect prices of the current intel processors?
Should i wait for skylake before building my pc?
Also another question,
Does anybody know if gtx 970/980 is going to drop in price anytime soon?
The 980 has already dropped once. 970 isn't likely to change for awhile.
As for the processors I hear they hardly increase speeds whatsoever, nothing an oc'd haswell can't compete with.

So.. could they be cheaper when they come out?
My build is done!

Wire management is alright IMO. Better than my last build, that's for sure...

Had to do similar things with my wires.
No LEDs?
no
not since the accident that was my first PC
The NZXT Lexa used to be the shit when I was younger.
I have wisened up now, however.

I spy a lanboy in the background. My friend has one of those. I like the orange, that's a nice color.
Hey guys, I have been out of the PC building loop for a while now so I am completely unsure of what is new out there and what is the best deal. I need to provide a partial upgrade to my last PC build which is getting to be almost 5 years old now and even though I can play most everything I want it is starting to struggle.
My current specs are...

Right now money is tight so instead of going balls out on an entirely new build I want to just update half the parts now and then the rest in a few months. I am thinking an upgrade around $300-$350 maybe $400 if I really have to. I am thinking motherboard, CPU, and GPU right now and I already have a new SSD on it's way. I am open to any recommendations. Thanks guys!
Keep your RAM.
Go for an i5 4690k+a Z97 motherboard(if you over clock go for a corsair H100i)
Depend on what your PSU is you could keep it or not.
GPU wise a 970 is perfect if you plan to keep your 1680x1050 monitor(it's even great for 1920x1080 gaming too if you upgrade your monitor)
SSD? MX100s.
Yeah my PSU isn't that old, it's a corsair 800w, I plan to keep that monitor for now and the SSD I ordered is a 512GB MX100.

Also I should mention I don't need a 4 year build, I plan for this computer to hold me over for about another year and then I will pass it off to my cousin and start a new build.
I'm about to try transfering my current computer's hardware over to my new computer, using sysprep and Macrium Free. Wish me luck!
You got benchmarks too? Would be kinda fun seeing those.
Benchmarks of what, exactly? The new system?
Ok, I need advice on what to do in how the hell I get an image of my computer for sysprep.
The tutorial for Macrium is outdated and I'm not sure how to get clonezilla to work.
I'm currently stuck at the USB boot stage. Right now I'm trying to put clonezilla onto my usb...
[editline]9th July 2015[/editline]
Ok, now I need some serious help. I decided to simply plug in my old hard drive to my new computer and clone the hard drive across.
So I did this, but now the computer will only boot to the bios. It detects the hard drive because it's in the boot order as first priority. I'm pretty sure I chose the source and target correctly...
What's going on here?
(P.S I should point out that I copied the old bootloader across, and when I did the transfer I got two errors about there not being partitions on the target hard drive, followed by the transfer saying it was complete. Could this have been the source of the error?)
EDIT: I've double checked that I didn't choose the wrong hard drives and overwrited the old hard drive with nothing, as the old hard drive still has windows on it.
I'm starting to think that the actual transfer didn't happen...
Ok, nevermind. Turns out the original OS now doesn't boot due to driver issues.
Looks like it's a fresh install for me!
You may find you prefer the fresh install anyway even if you do need to transfer a lot of shit.
I end up doing so much that my drive becomes so cluttered and disorganized. I enjoy keeping it tidy
Is a used factory overclocked gtx 660 for $80 a steal to upgrade from a 460?
Can you give me please some advices/examples for picking ~128 gb SSD ?
Question.
So recently my graphics card will do this thing where when I enter/exit a game or enter a game but alt+tab to desktop, the screen will go black for a second then come back, as if it's switching something. Anyone know whats going on?
GTX 980
I've noticed it a lot with my 970 and TV (sound will cut out when it goes black) and assumed it was a refresh rate mismatch (between 59 and 60hz in my case) between the desktop and game. I don't remember it happening as much (if at all) in Windows 7 though.
Sometimes my screen will black out in the middle of a game for a second.
I blamed it on my monitor though, since it seems to have a lot of issues.
I'm also on 980.
I have the same thing with my 970. When changing resolution on my TV or switching from game to desktop, the screen blacks and the audio cuts for a second.
Probably does have something to do with changing refresh rates because my desktop res is for sure 60hz but for some reason all my games select 59
[editline]9th July 2015[/editline]
Except for crytek games which suck and will only accept 24hz without an external tool to force it to do otherwise
Is there any way to force both to be 60 hertz or 59 hertz?
I use a tool called direct refresh to override the refresh rate used by any resolution. Even works with dsr resolutions. This was the only way I could make Crysis act right.

Screen still blacks and audio still stops for a second though.
In terms of making a budget build console killer, would it be better to make a G3258 (with the upgrade path to a Haswell i5 in the future) or go straight for the FX-6 series?
I am now posting to you from my new comp!
Unfortunately all drivers are baby-form right now so I need to update them all before I can do anything.
Windows Update finds drivers, right?
well then...

Windows 8 does the same thing
These two bad boys just got in.
These will be going in my new build next week.

I installed using SP1 but this is a lot of drivers too.
