It's just the updates after SP1. There's a fuckton of them and shame on microsoft for not making an updated W7 image.
I think I just realised why clonezilla didn't work.
'My Computer' didn't have the drive as detected, so I had to uncheck the 'hide empty drives' option on the file manager, then go to Disk Management.
It turns out that not only is the drive empty, it is unformatted. Thus when I tried to transfer my information across it found no way to put it in.

Can you sli link 2 similar cards from different manufacturers?
I have a msi cyclone gtx 460 and someone near me is selling a geforce gtx 460 for $35
I think Im gonna build another upgradable midrange pc once the next intel socket comes out, then I can get in at the bottom of a generation. Since its gonna be a while until the build happens, I might fabricate a Mad Max style case out of one of those huge 90s emachine cases. I had an idea to watercool the CPU and GPU, mount the radiator exposed in front like a car, use a mini beer keg on top as a reservoir, have tons of toggle switches and a few analogue gauges on the front, all hooked up to things of course. Deadbolt latch on a side panel that swings open to access drive bays and a side mounted bluray drive. If I'm feeling really ambitious I could mount the water pump on the top and belt drive it, dressing it up to look like a supercharger, and have an exhaust pipe going along the bottom of the side. Another ambitious idea is to put in a little duct work behind the radiator, so under normal operation the fan behind the radiator will pull in air and circulate it through the case. However, I can block off the path by throwing a lever on the side, and flip the big red toggle switch to turn on a few server fans to violently suck air through the radiator and immediately out the exhaust, for maximum cooling power.

This is one of those ideas I come up with drunk and it still sounds good the next morning.
[editline]11th July 2015[/editline]
oh and I guess the PSU has to be top mounted, upside down, and sticking an inch out of the case for some reason.

Yes. They are both the same chip, the GTX 460.
Newegg is having a weekend sale. Not sure if this link will work though http://promotions.newegg.com/NEemail/July-0-2015/WExpress-S11/index-landing.html?utm_medium=Email&utm_source=EXPRESS071115&nm_mc=EMC-EXPRESS071115&cm_mmc=EMC-EXPRESS071115-_-EMC-071115-Index-_-E0A-_-footer&et_cid=19572&et_rid=12621030&et_p1=
I'm going to be getting some upgrades for my old funky computer in the next couple months and I was looking for advice. Here's my set of upgrades so far:
Sapphire R9 280X ~$210
ASRock H97 Motherboard ~ $72.00
Intel i5-4440 Haswell 3.1Ghz ~ $190
Total comes up to about $475. Any recommendations for things that might be a better deal, or is this all good in the hood? I would be willing to spend a couple more dollars but I'm not looking to spend much more than $500. I don't really know much about what hardware is the best for this price range since there's so many different things to choose from.
Hey guys, I'm looking for advice on a first time build, which has to include ALL peripherals (down to the mouse pad). My current budget is around £1000.
I'd like it to be able to multitask well as well as manage 60 fps on medium to high settings for a few years to come.
This is my current list:

I intend to get the OS from another source.
Should I get another CPU fan instead of an extra case fan? I don't really intend to overclock too much until I really need to.

If you intend to overclock at all, a third party cooler is a must. Infact, due to Intel's stock coolers being complete garbage nowadays, it's basically a must anyway
Intel's coolers are better than any stock cooler has been in well over a decade. They're perfectly adequate for stock clocks.
Intel's coolers are better than any stock cooler has been in well over a decade. They're perfectly adequate for stock clocks.
Pretty damn loud though.
Do you have sensitive ears or something?
Mine was awful on my last build, now I have a new cpu and a 212 evo cooler, it sounds so much quieter.
Do you have sensitive ears or something?
No, just a shit case. :c
Really though I'm looking to buy a decent ATX sized case. Any not-over-the-top suggestions? The Fractal R5 is apparently not ever going to be in stock again, where I order my stuff.
Okay so I bought a GTX 970 and I thought I'd be okay with my current PSU, but it turns out it only has one 6-pin PCI power connector, which is not enough. So I need to pick out a PSU that would work with the 970 out of THESE with the maximum price I can spend being 60 euros.
[editline]13th July 2015[/editline]
Looking at just the specifications and price, I picked this one out myself:
http://www.skytech.lt/emp500agt-enermax-psu-maxpro-500w-p-235202.html#tabsnav-1
Would it be okay?
[editline]13th July 2015[/editline]
I've come across another option, my PSU has 2 loose Molex connectors (technically it's just one that then splits off into a second one, dunno if that's an issue) and it seems like I could get a converter that turns that into a single 8-pin PCI connector, would that be an okay solution?
Can you stretch your budget like 6 euros? That enermax really isn't worth buying. Also I hate that site, their pricing and selection is shit, and it seems like they've gotten rid of Superflower units since last time I was on it.
http://www.skytech.lt/s12ii520-psu-seasonic-s12ii520-520w-plus-bronze-retail-p-71698.html
Shit, I really didn't want to spend all my budget just on getting the GPU to work. I might have to return the 970 and get a 960 instead, as that would even work with my current PSU. I'll probably be able to upgrade again in a couple of years and I imagine the 960 should still remain okay-ish for that long. At least it certainly won't get as out-dated as my previous card which was a radeon HD5770.
So, a friend of mine advised me to ask on reddit for a good pc build. Can you guys give me your opinion?

Ram is wrong. You want 2x4GB or 2x8GB not a single stick. Your missing a mouse if you need one. I don't know about XFX as a PSU brand.

i3 ain't great and the RAM seems a bit over the top as far as ram goes.

I already have a mouse. It's a cheap USB mouse but it still works, so I see no reason to change it yet.
As for the ram, and forgive my ignorance, what would be the difference between 2x4GB and a single 8GB stick?
What would you advise in place of the i3 motherboard?
There's really almost no difference between a single 8gb stick and 2x4gb since you have a dedicated GPU. Just go with what's cheapest. The i3 is also adequate, though if you can afford it bump up to an H97 motherboard and i5 4430/4460. XFX has great PSU's, they're rebranded Seasonics.
Twice the bandwidth. Imagine two taps instead of one. It can operate faster.
[editline]13th July 2015[/editline]
Doesn't actually have that much of an effect IRL but it's there for a reason.

I know it's there for a reason, but it has absolutely no noticeably effect on gaming or daily tasks.
[editline]13th July 2015[/editline]
(Trust me, I understand memory bandwidth)
Well. Practically speaking, if one stick fails your computer will still function. So that's a plus I suppose.
I guess, but to RMA your RAM they require the entire kit to be sent in.
Okay so I think I'm going to actually return my 970 and get a 960 instead. I could get either of these 4GB ones but I don't really know which one, as they both have pretty much the same specs and the price difference is very minor:

I'd go ASUS but's it's all personal preference.

I honestly really wouldn't get a 960.
I'd go MSI. To be honest though I haven't looked much into performance and quality for the 960. The MSI has the edge on ASUS for the 970 and 980 though.
Did ASUS fix their leaky fans?
