i would go for a AMD at 1440p. perhaps a 290x or a 390
I've honestly not considered AMD cards much, in what ways are the 290x and 390 better than the 970? And are the driver problems as bad as I've seen people make them out to be or is it just overreactions?
they're better in terms of price vs. performance. The 970 will perform better, but not necessarily $250 better than the 290x or the 380.
From what I can see, the 290x and 390 are roughly the same price as the 970 wherever I look, give or take $20 or so. [editline]17th July 2015[/editline] Oh, I just noticed your above post. I'll definitely look into the 380 too, cheers.
AMD products seem to have funky pricing and availability down under.
Really? I just compared their prices on Amazon and the 390 and 970 are both around $350, with the 390 being just a bit more expensive. On idle, my temps keep going ape Could it just be reading it wrong? Feels pretty cool at the back of my case..
Could be, are your load temps fine? Because those are the only ones that matter.
Got another SSD. Here's how to mount one.
So I'm looking to pick up an SSD for a clean install of Windows 10 when it rolls around. I browsed through a few of them but can't tell what one would be a good drive to go for. I'm willing to spend at most around $100 and would like a minimum of 120GB on it. So between those two points there are a lot of choices; I would appreciate some input on what ones are reliable and are a good deal. I'm leaning more towards the larger sizes so I can put a few slow loading games onto it.
$99 will probably get you a nice Crucial 256Gb.
I saw that one but I also saw this one that seemed to have better speeds but a lot fewer reviews / ratings. http://pcpartpicker.com/part/crucial-internal-hard-drive-ct250mx200ssd1
It's a fairly new SSD, but doesn't really offer much above the MX100. Choose whichever is cheaper.
Should I buy a 64GB SSD and use it for my windows installation? Use the other 2Tb for whatever
Should I buy a 64GB SSD and use it for my windows installation? Use the other 2Tb for whatever
I would do AT LEAST 128. You'll be surprised how little 64GB is.
Even 128 can be a bit of a squeeze. 64 must be hell.
My 980 OC'd on 1080 max only hits about 45-55 on GTAV. I can hardly imagine a 960
You're doing something wrong. If you're gonna out like 800 bucks on a monstrous card then you should probably get your moneys worth with tweaking settings at least. GTA V has some hitches in it, MSAA is abnormally intensive (don't use it, or don't go higher that 2x + MFAA) the fixed-distance depth of field in very high+ PP is ugly, gameplay intrusive and very performance insensitive, "Ultra" grass settings are ridiculously expensive, good 10-20 fps drop when near grass sprites. If you set grass to high, set PP to high, and set MSAA to 2x (+MFAA) or outright off (ie: fxaa instead), and everything else at max settings, then you should be doing 60 fps at all times. You'll have performance to spare, so you'll be able to do some resolution scaling on top of that (which is cheaper and better than the MSAA) I've got 2x 960s, and play at 3840 x 1620 (downsampled) resolution with almost everything at very high/ultra and still get a flat 60 fps, it's all about just killing those few performance hogs in the settings.
Oh come on it's not even $800 in Canada
Oh come on it's not even $800 in Canada
At base price no (at least for the cheaper manufacturers) but even with the cheaper variants with shipping and taxes you're always going to breach the 770-800 dollar mark with a purchase of that price.

Because you can get a gigabyte one for $600
Uh, isn't This 499,90 after rebate with $3 shipping? I know it's newegg but it seems solid. 100 off the $600, and 800 dollars for a 980 these days is just ludicrous.
But if you go to the .ca site it is over $700 Canadian, which hypno-toad is.
Can somebody take a look at this build for me. I want a $1600-$1700 gaming build that can run modern games on high settings and whatnot. Windows 10 needs to be included. Have you looked into DDR4 Memory? I dont think its too much of a price difference.
I think my top fan is losing its bearings as it will create a buzzing noise after a while and if you shine a light at it, you can tell its not running at "full speed" like the others. Can anyone suggest a good 140mm replacement? Or would buying 2x 120mm fans in it's place be better?
