So people who don't have any idea what they're talking about are just saying things for the sake of it. Got it. Thanks.

In two months someone else will post 'I heard about the 970 and its 3.5 VRam issue'
Honestly I've forced gta v to use over 3.5gb of vram and I don't notice any problems. Other than the fact that the framerate isn't very good at the settings required to make that happen, but I mean, that's to be expected, not even the 980 can handle it at settings like that.
In two months someone else will post 'I heard about the 970 and its 3.5 VRam issue'
Honestly... the 390 and 970 are kind of close in terms of performance.
I'll kindly disagree and drop in my own two cents: I bought an ASUS Z97-AR a month or two ago when I decided to upgrade my Intel i5. My trouble started when the damn thing wouldn't read both sticks of RAM. After a lot of testing, I figured that the problem was with the motherboard, not the memory - both sticks worked perfectly well on their own and were supposedly compatible. Not so much, it appeared. Then the motherboard suddenly started to fail its POST. I did a lot of Internet searching to figure out a solution, but I learned nothing other than it happens with all of ASUS' Z97 models. I talked to my brother-in-law (who had purchased the same board several months ago) and learned that he had a lot of memory issues too. Eventually, I ditched the board and bought a Gigabyte Z97 instead. Since then, I haven't noticed any problems other than some curious (and easily rectified) behavior with my monitors. Take my word as you wish, but I'm kinda wary of the ASUS Z97 line now.
You were probably very unfortunate. My Z97-A is one of the most stable boards I've used.
You were probably very unfortunate. My Z97-A is one of the most stable boards I've used.
Maybe you are just fortunate?
Know any good monitors that are a large size 17 inches or more? Also Corsair veg pro or kingston hyperx fury black? (The only difference isa cas of 1)
Alot of good info here: http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/
Maybe you are just fortunate?
Asus must be your trigger :v:
Asus must be your trigger :v:
Nah, that's not an ASUS thing. Just a bit tired lately (mainly not on this forum) of people saying "well mine was perfect, you must be an outlier while not considering maybe they were the outlier for a functional product. I actually have an ASUS board for one of my systems. [editline]27th July 2015[/editline] Not to mention I'd fucking love an ASUS Deluxe x99 board. It's probably my favorite looking and featured board on the market right now.
I'm just teasing ya mate. :v:
So I bought a couple of corsair sp140 fans and I have no idea which way to put them in, there's nothing to tell me which way the air goes unless I put them in and test. I plan to use them as the exhaust at the top of my case.
The side that has the frame and wires stuff is the direction in which air will be exhausted.

Just two arrows showing which way the fans rotate and which way the airflow goes on the side.
In your opinions, are aftermarket case fans worth it? I was wondering how much of an improvement they are over stock case fans (yeah I know this will vary from case to case, but in the very general case). For example, here I see 4x120mm fans for just $13! This seems pretty cheap to me, so maybe they are marketed at people whose cases don't come with fans? Would more expensive fans actually provide noticeably better airflow or is the extra price just for better quality/reduced sound?

Expensive ones like scythe or noctua will be better in terms of airflow and silence

I recently replaced my front intake fan (which was a 140mm standard fan) with this. My GPU / CPU temperatures have gone down by roughly 8 to 9 degrees with that alone. I'll admit that I went a bit over the top with the fan, I could have gone for a cheaper aftermarket fan but that one has HUGE airflow for its size. It has roughly 3x the airflow of what a normal 140mm case fan has (from a little bit of research I did).
This Enermax fans probably hit the best point in price/performance. [editline]28th July 2015[/editline] Better on a noise/airflow ratio than most Noctua and pretty much any Scythe.
Hey, I'm back again. On page 39, I had my final build, but I'm feeling a little ballsy and decided to upgrade some parts. I have a few questions though if anyone can help: PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant CPU: Intel Core i5-4690 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor ($214.99 @ SuperBiiz) CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler ($25.98 @ OutletPC) Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-H97-D3H ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($88.99 @ SuperBiiz) Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($80.99 @ Newegg) Storage: Crucial MX100 128GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($73.99 @ Amazon) Storage: Hitachi Deskstar 7K2000 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($56.80 @ Amazon) Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 980 Ti 6GB Superclocked+ ACX 2.0+ Video Card ($679.99 @ Amazon) Case: Fractal Design Define R5 w/Window (Black) ATX Mid Tower Case ($99.99 @ NCIX US) Power Supply: Corsair CX 750W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply ($54.99 @ Newegg) Optical Drive: Samsung SH-224DB/BEBE DVD/CD Writer ($14.99 @ Micro Center) Monitor: Asus VG248QE 144Hz 24.0" Monitor ($229.00 @ Amazon) Keyboard: Rosewill RK-9000BR Wired Standard Keyboard ($96.00 @ Mechanical Keyboards) Speakers: Logitech Z323 30W 2.1ch Speakers ($48.99 @ Amazon) Total: $1765.69 Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available Generated by PCPartPicker 2015-07-28 10:59 EDT-0400 1) My friend stated that ASRock motherboards weren't that great and suggested Gigabyte, MSI, or ASUS (in increasing price order). How much water does this statement hold? 2) Someone else suggested me getting a 750 watts PSU and they also recommended Corsair. I thought Corsair was a pretty mediocre brand for PSUs? And I'm not too sure I need 750 watts, he said that the 980ti's power draw is deceiving. I do not plan on SLI'ing in the future. 3) How is Hitachi as an HDD brand? I know the stigmas with Western Digital Greens and Seagates, but no experience with Hitachis.
Hitachi is really solid now. I switched out the PSU for a quality model and the keyboard for a not-shit rosewill one.
:words:
Thanks again Levelog. How important is thermal paste? I understand it's required, but is it such a necessity that I should buy and use anything other than the standard paste they give you? Also thanks for the keyboard recommendation; I was originally planning on getting that, but CM fonts are abysmal.
I can find another keyboard for you if you'd like. Is the number pad necessary? Also the 212 EVO comes with some paste that is actually pretty good.
I can find another keyboard for you if you'd like. Is the number pad necessary? Don't push your time though, I can always just replace the keycaps. I really like the feel of MX browns after using a keycap tester though, so that'd probably be my only requirement. EDIT: https://www1.massdrop.com/buy/vortex-poker-iii-compact-keyboard Found this on massdrop, but what the hell is that brand?
If you're into the gimmicky stuff, I hear the logitech keyboards are pretty nice http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Mechanical-Keyboard-Tactile-High-Speed/dp/B009C98NPY

So, I'm designing my custom case and I was wondering, do I need a flow meter for liquid cooling?
