Alright thanks for all the feedback on fans guys, I'll probably go buy some nice quiet ones to be nice to my roomate
Thinking about pulling the trigger on a CPU upgrade from a 2500k to a 4690K and upgrading to 16gb along side it. Unsure if I should wait for the next generation of Intel CPU's, is the performance increase going to be anything noticeable?

If you're overclocking your 2500k, there's not going to be a noticeably increase from the 2500k to the 4690k or 6600k.
there's not going to be a noticeably increase from the 2500k to 6600k.
This is really sad imo. I'm not one to really be stuck on 5-6 yr old hardware just because Intel has a stick up their ass.
This is really sad imo. I'm not one to really be stuck on 5-6 yr old hardware just because Intel has a stick up their ass.
It's less the stick, more we're reaching the end of silicon from a clock speed and performance side. There's nothing left to work on it with besides energy efficiency and adding more cores/threads.
How much of a performance increase percentage wise would there be if I did upgrade to a 6700k?
How much of a performance increase percentage wise would there be if I did upgrade to a 6700k?
What do you have now?
2600k oc'd to 4.5 GHz.
I mean, it's getting near the point it may be worth it if you're experiencing issues from a performance standpoint. I think it's definitely worth it from a chipset features standpoint though. You're gaining more USB 3.0, 3.1, Type C, m.2, SATA Express, more PCIe lanes that are 4.0, NVMe, and others. From a performance, it's still up for grabs. You'll see about a 3-5% increase from one generation to the next clock for clock. Sandy - Ivy - Haswell - Broadwell - Skylake gives you 12% increase at 4.5ghz on the low end, 20% on the high end. Granted we don't know how Skylake will overclock. With Sandy frequently being able to push to 4.8+ and equivalent Haswell processors struggling at 4.6 it's still a mystery.
The entire reason why I want to upgrade my cpu is because of MGS5 and possibly Fallout 4 but the requirements haven't been released yet. As of right now my gpu is pretty ok but I will upgrade it whenever Pascal comes out which might not be until next year.
You shouldn't be having any issues with MGS5 on a 2600k @ 4.5ghz.
Assuming the requirements are like Ground Zeroes then yeah.

The devs did an extremely shitty job and a stock 4670K wont run them either.
CPU: Intel Core i7 4790K socket 1150 (EUR 368,06) CPU Cooler: Corsair Hydro Series H80i (EUR 109,89) Motherboard: MSI Z97 GAMING 5 ATX socket 1150 (EUR 147,16) Memory: HyperX Fury 1866mHz dual 8GB kit (EUR 92,05) Storage: Samsung MZ-850 EVO 500GB (EUR 181,13) Video Card: MSI GTX 980 OCV1 4GD5 (EUR 526,39) Case: Corsair Carbide Series PC Case SPEC-03 PC-ATX Middle Tower Black (EUR 64.99) Power Supply: Corsair CS750M ATX (EUR 124,88) Any feedback on my first time high end build?
You could definitely get a better quality power supply, but other than that it looks pretty good. H80i is overpriced for the performance though. AIO coolers are really only worth it for 240mm+ or if you've got super tight workspaces.

Still way overkill PSU
Overkill on the psu is far more preferable than skimping by imo. You don't really nees to change it up unless you wanna spend less or maybe allocate some funds over to an ssd/case

Saving the money is better
Yeah that was the plan. Is there a big difference between a plus gold rated psu and a bronze one?
They're energy efficiency ratings. If you care about that sort of thing I'd get gold or platinum.
Yeah that was the plan. Is there a big difference between a plus gold rated psu and a bronze one?
Rating doesn't mean shit. [editline]30th July 2015[/editline]
They're energy efficiency ratings. If you care about that sort of thing I'd get gold or platinum.
And I've seen bronzes that are actually more efficient than golds. 80+ rating is mainly horseshit unless you're comparing similar platforms. Even then the energy saving costs are very slim unless you pay an arm and a leg for electricity and are running your system full load 24/7

I choose the one that had the best reviews.

X99 MOSFET Block they said. It will fit, they said. [t]http://puu.sh/jjG58/2bb739269b.jpg[/t] :suicide: [editline]30th July 2015[/editline] I will have to pray to the pagan god of tools and technology so I can solder this.
Please could someone create a build for my dad? It's purely for multitasking and non-gaming but he requires an i7 and a 1440p monitor, so you could save money and not get a graphics card. He won't require any peripherals, but a case, ssd (to run basic programs), hdd, etc.
I just got myself a Twin Frozr R9 390 and it's idling at 58c. Is this normal? I've never had a graphics card before, but this seems a bit high.

I would however test the card under load, if temps are still high then it's entirely possible you have a bad card. Personally, I think you'll be ok with those idle temps but if it still concerns you, then you can set up a custom fan curve with MSI afterburner
