Not a great PSU by any means.
1920 x 1080p A big mix of games, I'll probably pick up JC3, I play some other triple As, a lot of emulation, a fair amount of indie games - Really pretty much every game overall System will be (when the CPU/cooler/RAM arrive in about a week or so): http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/gbs3Jx
At 1080p a 980ti isn't just overkill, it's straight up murder by guns, fire, vehicles, knives, and shark attacks all at the same time. A 970 is far more practical if you're gonna be running 1080p or a 980 even if you really wanna future proof. Picking up a 980ti for 1080p gaming is like hiring Mike Tyson to win a schoolyard fight between children.
Yeah if you've got plenty of budget I'd pick up a nice 1440p monitor.
Not a great PSU by any means.
I just added a random PSU in which was the same watts, here's the actual one (I think): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817580002 [editline]1st August 2015[/editline]
At 1080p a 980ti isn't just overkill, it's straight up murder by guns, fire, vehicles, knives, and shark attacks all at the same time. I was thinking of upgrading my GTX 680, probably just to a GTX 970. I only have a 1920x1080 monitor, which is more than enough for me. Not interested/planning on overclocking either. My CPU is an i7-3770k. If it's not going to be a bottleneck anytime soon I'd rather leave it, but is it worth upgrading now too (I have enough spare cash for a new CPU/mobo - but unless I actually need to I'd rather leave it)?
Nah, that's not an ASUS thing. Just a bit tired lately (mainly not on this forum) of people saying "well mine was perfect, you must be an outlier while not considering maybe they were the outlier for a functional product. I actually have an ASUS board for one of my systems. [editline]27th July 2015[/editline] Not to mention I'd fucking love an ASUS Deluxe x99 board. It's probably my favorite looking and featured board on the market right now.
How about all those other people that didn't have these problems with their boards are all, and the other thousands upon thousands who have bought ASUS boards and have had no issues at all? Are they outliers too? Maybe the reason people are saying "mine was perfect, you must be an outlier" because defective products are 99.9% of the time: outliers.

GTX 680 is slightly worse than GTX 960, both can run any game at 1080p. Maybe you should wait for the next generation
Don't really think so... GTX 680 is slightly worse than GTX 960, both can run any game at 1080p. Maybe you should wait for the next generation
Yeah, I was thinking that would probably be best. I've gotten quite a lot of extra money recently, not sure if I'll have another time soon to upgrade/future-proof though.
Hey all, I'm wondering if I'm due for an upgrade? I should be able to have a budget to upgrade at least the CPU and motherboard here. [T]http://i.imgur.com/Gog7iG0.png[/T] On a last note, would 600 watts be enough to drive any new hardware? I'm using a Cooler Master PSU which I bought for 46 euros back in the day, and not sure if it's enough anymore.
I recently had the misfortune of buying an ASUS AMD motherboard (M5A99X EVO) that gave out after a few days. After doing more research I found out the board is complete ass, so I'm getting a refund from newegg and want to get a different AMD board. Any suggestions? I know the power supply is a bit overkill but in the future he could just add a GTX 960 or something and use it for gaming without needing to switch the PSU
Gaming isn't his thing so won't be a problem! The Windows 7 OS is a good idea as he was planning to buy Windows 10 (he currently has it on his current pc, but it's one of those all in one touchscreen computers), so he'd save £60 on the OS alone. 250GB SSD is perfectly fine for non-gaming, he'll be putting stuff like Cubase, etc on it as well as the OS. I could remove the CD drive though as a lot of the stuff he does is now digital, but we could always add one in later. I'll be building it for him, but won him round to just "build a pc" than one that's already built. Thank you for the list!
A couple of weeks ago I asked for advice on a build. As I have not ordered the pieces yet (because reasons) I decide to follow the advice and switch the MSI H81 motherboard and the i3 processor for a MSI H97-E35 and a i5-4460 processor. What's the best brand for the 980? Cost appears to be for me (In the UK), most expensive to least, ASUS, MSI, EVGA=Gigabyte, Palit
So which one of these is the best option? Double the VRAM for about the same price, maybe only a couple of euros more. Except the Asus 970, that is. But yeah I'd go with either ASUS' or MSI's. If we were close to the next NVIDIA GPU series I would've said EVGA because of their step up program.
I'd go with MSI or EVGA.
