I have tax money burning a hole in my pocket. What to upgrade? I'm struggling this time round. CPU is still going strong clocked at 4.5Ghz RAM is more than adequate GPU works wonders SSD is good but maybe a larger capacity could be on the cards?
Go for a bigger monitor to accomodate that 970. Maybe look at 144hz 1080p ones if you're into twitch shooters.
You mean second monitor? Current primary is a 30" Dell Ultrasharp 2560x1600 for my photo editing. Though I actually don't mind 60hz for games.
you really are sorta better saving that money for a rebuild.
I was hoping Skylake would be more than a 10% improvement :v: Maybe new peripherals time!
You can always use a nice new mechanical keyboard and mouse if you don't have good ones. A higher capacity ssd never hurts if you have room for more. If you use a microphone a lot maybe consider a nice preamp and xlr mic. Speakers/studio monitors? The later would be expensive though but you can find two decent genelecs for a good price.
I was hoping Skylake would be more than a 10% improvement :v: Maybe new peripherals time!
your 2500k is fine. only benefit to skylake is the chipset benefits. ie: ddr4, usb 3.1, better pcie lane bandwidths, but performance wise, you wont notice a difference in games though.
Threw together a lean pure gaming machine while I was bored. Figured I'd share. Isn't the H100i a bit overkill for an I5?
Isn't the H100i a bit overkill for an I5?
Not really. An i5 has the same TDP as an i7. Assuming they're as good clockers as it says, it can very well be beneficial.

I was looking at the H100i but is seemed like there were more than the usual amount of quality control issues.
I was looking at the H100i but is seemed like there were more than the usual amount of quality control issues.
Most AIO's have major QC issues. They're trying to make a more precision piece of cooling as cheap as possible and cut many corners.
What are some good choices for wired network adapters (non-usb)
What are some good choices for wired network adapters (non-usb)
Like a PCIe card? Just pick up an Intel gigabit card off ebay for dirt cheap.
Like a PCIe card? Just pick up an Intel gigabit card off ebay for dirt cheap.
Wait did I say wired? I meant wireless lmao, still PCI-e Edit: decided to go with the tp-link tl WDN4800
Is it cheaper to build or buy a laptop? I generally use a laptop for everything because I move around a lot, and like to sit in the same room as the tv with my family, so I don't want something that's gonna burn my flesh off. But I'm also really tired of this really bad video card and processor that makes anything not 5 years old run at ~10 fps. Do you guys have any suggestions? I'd like to aim around ~500, give or take 100.
What's the best Radeon R9 cards right now? I saw this 3xx model, is that an improvement?
I'm looking to build a PC to replace my iMac. I posted this in /r/buildapc but didn't get any response, so I figured I'd copy and paste it here.
Build Help/Ready: Hey folks! In the coming months I'm planning on replacing my Mid-2010 iMac. It's been a great computer for browsing the web and light photo and video editing, but when it comes to games and rendering more complex videos it's not quite up to snuff. I've read through some guides and a few build threads and come up with this build. I'm willing to change any parts except the case, I've fallen in love with the look. What is your intended use for this build? The more details the better. I'll probably still be using this PC mainly for web browsing, but I would like to be able to play games like CS:GO and TF2 at a stable FPS. I've currently got a 1080p Asus monitor lying around, but will probably be upgrading to something 1440p now that my iMac's spoiled lower resolutions for me. I'll also be doing some photo and video editing in Adobe Photoshop, Premiere, and After Effects. If gaming, what kind of performance are you looking for? (Screen resolution, FPS, game settings) I currently get 20-30fps in CS:GO, so anything's an improvement really, haha. Somewhere around 60fps for most games on mid to high settings is my goal. As I said, I'll likely upgrade to a 1440p monitor in the future, though I could always run more intensive games at 1080p. What is your budget (ballpark is okay)? Right around $500 is ideal, I don't have a ton of cash so $500 still leaves me with a bit for a keyboard/mouse. Post a draft of your potential build here (specific parts please). PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant Any suggestions/advice is appreciated. Thanks!
For video editing you're going to want a far better CPU than that, people tend to recommend an i7. I'd say at least go for an i5, though you'll need to go over budget for that.

I've replaced the PSU with a higher quality one, along with going for a cheaper 750 Ti. Although I would recommend going for an I5 as was stated by Mors (I5 build - http://pcpartpicker.com/p/Xwpmcf If you can save up a little more / afford this, I'd say go for this one instead)

Personally, I've had quite a few issues with ASRock motherboards in the past, but I might just have been unlucky The rest of the build looks fine to me
Thinking of getting a new hard drive to replace this one. Anyone got any recommendations for a hard drive that is at least 2TB, and perhaps also an SSD that isn't way too expensive.

I've got one and still while full it tests 200 read, 200 write.

Cause ya know, you can easily fry your proc like that.
Wait. Where the fuck is your 4 pin connector? I don't see it in the video. [editline]12th August 2015[/editline] NVM. I see it. [editline]12th August 2015[/editline] Kinda looks like the power supply is cutting itself out. Check the cables are in the right place if it's modular. [editline]12th August 2015[/editline] To clarify - my power supply would exhibit the same symptoms when I was braiding my cables. I fucked up a couple of the cables and that was my problem so try that.
