That would have showed on the 7 seg display
The only thing plugged into the power supply is the motherboard... (Yes it's modular, and the cable is in the "MB" port)
Would it have? It didn't on my Z87 gigabyte motherboard.

Well, I plugged in a CPU fan, same thing, the fan didn't even spin at all.

Did you completely clear the CMOS? I had to make sure everything was drained and cleared for it to stop doing it.
[editline]11th August 2015[/editline]
Also are you really trying to start it up without a heatsink on? That's a BAD idea.

This is a brand-new motherboard, never used it before... Cleared it via jumpers anyway, problem still persists.
... and yes, yes I am. If it did start, I would turn it off right-away.
[editline]11th August 2015[/editline]
Also, I took out the battery too.
[editline]11th August 2015[/editline]
Know what? I'm going to accept my fate and buy a new motherboard. Hooray for credit cards!
Can you not put the chipset heatsink back on?
Can you not put the chipset heatsink back on?
Yes, but I have a feeling that this is all because this happened.
X99 MOSFET Block they said. It will fit, they said.

I probably burnt that piece while soldering it back on.

I mean, one little part broke and the entire thing is useless. uuughhhhhhhhhhhhh
You cant really build a laptop as you can with a PC.
Also dont expect to run games well on a 500$ laptop.
An improvement over what?
MSI R9 FURY X 4GB Would be the best R9 card atm.
Right now, I got a R9 280X, I kept thinking there's a successor by the time I bought it last year.

Make sure you do the same procedure with the next motherboard as well. Maybe you'll eventually manage to fry the CPU, since that appears to be your objective. :ok:
You can totally get away with posting the CPU well before it fries. What the fuck are you guys freaking out about.
How is this for a computer build?

Are there any improvements that can be made?

I would get next gen intel processor, ddr4 ram and a better mobo
I'm really glad ASUS seems to be heavily moving to the Strix. The DirectCU cooler was just subpar, they slapped it on everything whether or not it did a good job.
I would get next gen intel processor, ddr4 ram and a better mobo
I would if I could, but adding those parts will go over my budget of £900.
Also what motherboard would you reccomend (Nothing too expensive hopefully.)
Get my 980ti on Saturday, after weeks of saving

You haven't selected a cooler for that 4690k, so you're wasting the k and z97 element because you'll hit throttling almost instantly with the stock cooler.

So whats wrong with the 280X? Should be able to run everything.?
Is there a reason my computer consistently plays the device disconnect and connect sounds when my computer is inactive? It doesn't do it during use but if I'm away from it itll do it all the time. I think it's the graphics card but idk for sure

USB sleep settings? I HIGHLY doubt it's the GPU.
Where would I adjust that

Power options most likely.
Went ham and got a Zotac GTX 980 Ti AMP! Extreme. The thing is massive.
Parts ordered. Will be here by monday
Well i guess its better to post here than make a new thread. I am not computer savvy and i was thinking i could / should go for a upgrade, specifically talking about the cpu / mother board.

I'd say my budgets around 400$.

$534
A little over budget, however you can probably sell your current DDR3 ram to make up for getting the DDR4 ram.
I've asked this question on the "Quick Questions That Don't Deserve A Thread" thread, but this seems like a more proper place to ask.
I'm planning on switching out my laptop's HDD with an SSD, and I've been juggling between models to choose from. More importantly, I want to make sure that the SSD I end up getting will actually fit in my laptop, and I'd like it to be anywhere from 750GB to 1TB.
This the Speccy summary:
Operating System
Windows 8.1 64-bit
CPU
Intel Core i5 3230M @ 2.60GHz 54 °C
Ivy Bridge 22nm Technology
RAM
8.00GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 798MHz (11-11-11-28)
Motherboard
ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. G46VW (SOCKET 0) 53 °C
Graphics
Generic PnP Monitor (1366x768@60Hz)
Intel HD Graphics 4000 (ASUStek Computer Inc)
2047MB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660M (ASUStek Computer Inc) 62 °C
Storage
698GB Seagate ST750LM022 HN-M750MBB (SATA) 35 °C
931GB TOSHIBA External USB 3.0 USB Device (USB (SATA))
Optical Drives
No optical disk drives detected
Audio
Realtek High Definition Audio
These are the models that I'm considering getting:
1. Crucial MX200

TL:DR,
1. What SSD should I buy? If I didn't list it, please post a link to another one.
2. How will I know if the SSD is compatible with my laptop? (Speccy says my laptop's Form Factor is 1.8", but Crucial's scanner program says I can hold a 2.5")
Thanks for any help you can give.
980ti arrived this morning, it's awesome
Alright, i'm planning on upgrading my computer to being a good quality gaming pc. I already have monitors I like, 750 W power supply, and about a TB of HDD space. How much can I upgrade it for 1500$

You'll have to be a lot more specific than "has power supply and storage" before we can recomend anything
