Hey guys after I get my pay check this month I've been thinking about buying a gtx970, but I'm unsure if my psu is sufficient.
Specs:
Corsair CX500M 500W
i5-4690
H81m-plus
dual channel 8GB DDR3 @ 1600mhz
500gb SATA @ 5400rpm
1tb SATA @ 7200rpm
3X120mm fans
I also plan on buying 1 blu-ray drive and 1x SSD.
Its not a good quality PSU, but it should work.
You'll have to be a lot more specific than "has power supply and storage" before we can recomend anything
Well, everything else is going to be replaced
Alright, i'm planning on upgrading my computer to being a good quality gaming pc. I already have monitors I like, 750 W power supply, and about a TB of HDD space. How much can I upgrade it for 1500$
How capable would this pc be?
So i realized i have mostly enough parts for a secondary build, and since my friend can't buy my computer, my budget has been cut to around 400-600$. All i need is a case, Mobo, Cpu, and i was planning on getting a secondary gtx 970, that way i can take it out and put it in whenever someone wants to use it. I'll be using my old case for the new build, and switching my current build to the new case (it's a little cramped.) any ideas?
Thanks in advance.
My old case is an antec 300r2, but i plan on upgrading in the future to water cooling, and it doesn't have many options.
i was thinking of the fractal define s or define 2.

The 6600k is the most modern CPU right now. You'll be perfectly happy with it and for gaming it'll be spot on.
Z170 motherboards by asus are all pretty solid plus you get a type c and USB 3.1 ports.
DDR4 ram is newest, just came out. 8 gigs is plenty for now and probably for awhile.
SSD is an SSD. It's quick and reliable.
GTX 980ti is probably the best card you can get for the money.
IDK about the case but just chose one you like best idk.
In short you'd have one beast of a system.
Case is here other parts are late

do you mind elaborating on why it isnt a good psu
It's not a bad PSU per say, but it's certainly not a good choice for a high load rig like a gaming on.
Here's a good explanation because I'm not on my desktop which has the my explanation in a text file.

Alright thanks for the explanation.
If anyone has a list of recomended 80+ bronze psu's for the 500w-550W range that'd be lovely.

Pick one from tier 1 or 2.

This is also a good list that splits specific models up by wattage. Probably a better resource.

I'd go antec high current gamer 520m, at your price range. it fits in well. fantastic product, manufactured by seasonic, high quality everything, great customer service as well.

I've been checking out the stores near me and one them has the Seasonic M12II-520 520W MODULAR 80Plus Bronze I think I'll settle with that. Since I dont have a 1080p monitor yet I guess it can wait.
Okay, so I'm looking to upgrade sometime in the next 3-4 months.
My current build is Z97X Gaming 3 Asus Mobo with an i5-4690k @ 3.5GHz, 16.0GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 666MHz, 2047MB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680. I'm running this off of a 400W power source.
My goal is just a gaming rig that can run games for the next year or two without an upgrade at above medium to high settings. My budgets probably around 600$ but i'm not totally sure on that right now as things are pretty transitory right now.

upgrade your psu to a ~550W and grab a 390/970/etc.
Help I impulse bought a 5960X
I've asked this question on the "Quick Questions That Don't Deserve A Thread" thread, but this seems like a more proper place to ask.
I'm planning on switching out my laptop's HDD with an SSD, and I've been juggling between models to choose from. More importantly, I want to make sure that the SSD I end up getting will actually fit in my laptop, and I'd like it to be anywhere from 750GB to 1TB.
This the Speccy summary:

These are the models that I'm considering getting:

TL:DR,
1. What SSD should I buy? If I didn't list it, please post a link to another one.
2. How will I know if the SSD is compatible with my laptop? (Speccy says my laptop's Form Factor is 1.8", but Crucial's scanner program says I can hold a 2.5")
Thanks for any help you can give.
Open up Your laptop and measure it.
Is it normal to have your stress test temperatures decrease by about 15-17C after getting a better thermal compound? :s:
Is it normal to have your stress test temperatures decrease by about 15-17C after getting a better thermal compound? :s:
Yes, if the old one was really old.

It was about a year old.

If you've switched to a high quality liquid metal like coollaboratory liquid ultra and evenly applied it then yes, though this is also usually the case if the other TIM was too thick/had air bubbles in it or was the cooler's stock TIM.
This is why I'd recommend coollaboratory liquid ultra because for the low price you can see a drop equivalent to buying a whole new cooler for your cpu

That's what I picked up. I really didn't expect it to bring the temps down that much based on some graphs I had seen, and I'll be using it on all aftermarket coolers (non-aluminium) from now on.
All parts are here apart from my ram suppliers ballsd up
Would I want more vram if I were to downsample from 4k to 1080p?

Opening up the model I have is more tedious than it should be, so I ended up looking up the model on different sites. Speccy got the info wrong for some reason, as my HDD is indeed a Samsung 2.5" with 9.5mm height, which is perfectly fine with most SSD's since they are either 9.5mm or are 7mm and have 9.5mm adapters.
Now the question is, can anyone recommend me a good 1TB below $400?

Awesome.
I keep seeing games require a i7, like the new mad max, what's that about? Can you explain why my i5 is good enough to hold up with that by any chance?
I don't think you're wrong I just wanna know why those differences are what they are

Minimum requirements are absolute bullshit 9/10 times. 10/10 times for CPU requirements actually.

that game doesnt need an i7, like levelog said.
your i5 can handle probably any game for the next few years, even more if you overclock it.
Looking for feedback on my custom build. I'm looking to do mainly gaming on it, with some Video editing and 3D modeling applications on it too.
