So the latest issue I was having with the SATA port registering my Samsung SSD as being plugged in to a SATA 1 port was solved by reverting the Intel Rapid Storage driver to the default Windows AHCI Driver. If anyone else has the same issue I did, this guide will explain how to fix the issue entirely.
Helping set up a 100TB cluster at my studio. First "hardware" gig I've ever done. Hopefully it all goes well :)
What's a good monitor for 300$-500$? Ive heard 1440p isn't worth it and 4k would be best. I'll be using 970 sli, and upgrading later.
Where did you hear 1440p isn't worth it?
who told you 1440p wasnt worth it
1440p is worth it if you can't power 4K
even with a gtx 970 sli 1440p is a good compromise between performance and quality between 1080 and 4k
4k is a serious step up, imo 1440p would be better suited unless you're okay with dropping below the 60 fps mark with games like Witcher 3
1440p monitors:

I wouldn't mind, I usually can't tell unless it seriously drops to around 30-40 fps. Are there any with 1ms refresh?
Believe it or not, it was on Linus' forums. People were saying that the standard is skipping 1440p and 4k is supported much better already. I figured may as well make the jump to 4k instead of doing it a long time in the future.
;48557132']Hey guys, I need some help with a suggestion for a CPU cooler.
My build consists of:
- Samsung 850 Pro Series 256GB SSD
- EVGA GeForce GTX 980 Superclocked ACX 2.0 4GB
- G.Skill Ripjaws 4 F4-2400C15Q-16GRR 16GB (4x4GB) DDR4
- Intel Core i7 5820K
- EVGA SuperNOVA 1000W Platinum Power Supply
- Western Digital WD Black 1TB WD1003FZEX
- Corsair 760T Full Tower Graphite Series
And I just recently purchased:
- Gigabyte GA-X99-UD4P ATX LGA2011-3 Motherboard
I was on PC Part Picker and it said I needed a CPU cooler, otherwise everything else was compatible.
I intend to use this build for hardcore gaming. Any suggestions for a CPU cooler?

Awesome cheers! I was going to go with your first suggestion until someone suggested I should choose a water cooling CPU cooler over an air cooled.
Any suggestions on a good water cooled one?
Alright, never mind that, but what should I do when I get [sp]electrically conductive[/sp] grease on my motherboard/pins?
Anyone?
so i have around 500 dollars saved up from work to make an actually decent computer (not the keyboard, mouse, and monitor; those are already taken care of)
now i have basically 0 experience with building PCs so i dont really know where to start
im consulting all of my steam and IRL friends who are good with computers, right now im asking /r/buildapc and im looking all over newegg and pcpartpicker
where should i start

$500 is a bit low, depends on what games/programs you plan on playing/using.

Should I nab the MSI GeForce GTX 980Ti Lightning?
It looks amazing except for the fact that it has 3 power connectors (I dont think my PSU for my new build has 3 pci-e power connectors, I'll go check) and probably guzzles an insane amount of power.

Nah, the 980ti's don't really benefit from anything above a classy without LN2 cooling. Plus the Lightning doesn't even reportedly have Samsung memory, unlike the Kingpin.

Some consideration for low budget such as 500 should go into second hand and previous generation parts.
For example for playing games Sandy Bridge and even Nehalem is a decent enough architecture to run those on the CPU side, and they are far cheaper than other options if you can pick them up second hand and a suitable motherboard. Sandy bridges can be picked up right now as many are making a move to Skylake so expect to see quite a few 2500k, 2600k processors making their rounds. Get an i5 foundation for CPU and 8GB of DDR3 memory and work out a GPU that'll suit the build.
Possibly a 970 if you can get everything else for cheap, just make sure the PSU matches up to spec, tomshardware has a list of good PSUs, you'll want to consult that so you get a tier 1 or 2 one. And remember that the amount of Watts you need is always much less than what you think you need: Linus had a video showcasing off running things with an overclocked CPU and non-overclocked GPU such as a 7770 on a 300W power supply. Extreme situation but a 450, 500W is plenty enough.
If you don't want to go used, you can opt to get something like a Haswell i3, or a pentium anniversary edition and overclock it up, less work to find the right components, but you'll suffer in terms of actual performance in your PC. On the plus side it leaves you room to upgrade all the way up to devil's canyon if you later want all that power for non-gaming tasks.
If I want to switch out my two sticks of RAM on my laptop, do the new sticks of RAM need to having the same timing (currently it's 11-11-11-28), the clock speed (currently 800 MHz), or other factors?
I wouldn't mind, I usually can't tell unless it seriously drops to around 30-40 fps. Are there any with 1ms refresh?.
get the qx2710. amazing monitor. by the way, i can still max every game I play at 1440p with my 970, so don't worry about that
and the refresh diff isn't shit. 1ms vs 5ms is minuscule
Is it okay i flip my motherboard over to push out those cpu fan pins?
you shouldn't have to do this

Hi guys, I'm doing a budget build for my 12-year old cousin, and while I'm gonna do the parts list myself (as I'm in Denmark, prices are different, and I already have some components), I need some help with the case and monitor.
Basically I need a very cheap (m)ATX case with a strong focus on acoustics - I know that is usually considered a luxury, but yeah there you go. The Core 1000 wasn't exactly my taste, the last time I worked with it, by the way.
And point number 2 is that I need the best and cheapest monitor possible, basically. Is there one that sticks out just a bit from the budget heap? Preferably some kind of digital input.
Thanks in advance!

How cheap are you going for? The Source 220 is a good $50 case
How cheap are you going for? The Source 220 is a good $50 case
Basically as cheap as possible (less cheap on the monitor, that one needs to last a bit). I only have 4000kr (might have a bit of leeway, that wouold be $600) for the whole thing, though I do have a Windows 7 license and possibly a suitable GPU with a neglible price.
I've basically settled on the AOC Value i2269VWM - it's a PLS monitor with displayport and apparently pretty good contrast. That's good enough for me at the prive point (1064kr).
The Source 220 doesn't seem to be available here in Denmark - the 210 and the 340 is, though. Oh, and while we're at it; what's the go to budget PSU for the time being?

The CoolerMaster N200 is rather cheap if you find a good deal, and good on acoustics. As for a PSU I'd look for an Antec Green, baseline non-modular Seasonic, or over there in Europe there are actually some pretty cheap Superflower units. The box looks like the fucking Amazon or something. Just green shit everywhere.

That N200 sounds like a good choice, especially because of the price. I'd like 2 PCI-E 6-pin connectors, and the Antec PSUs only have one, while the G550 is simply too expensive. I'm looking at the Super Flower options right now, but if any of you guys have other decent alternatives, I'd be very thankful.

Sometimes in Europe (unlike the US) you can find the 650w and lower Corsair HX series. They're good models, same with the Corsair TXv2 ones, but you have to make sure it's the v2 models. I don't think you guys have many XFX units. BeQuiet straight power 10s are good, and the straight power e9s are acceptable. Antec true power classics, FSP Aurums, and some Enermax's are all serviceable and I believe are available over there.
I have a Sapphire R9 270x, and am looking to upgrade. What should I be considering on the Nvidia side?

Looks good, some pointers:
-Get a z97 motherboard instead of the z87.
-Get a Crucial mx100/Samsung EVO 256GB SSD to go with that HDD
-Get 2 4gb sticks instead of 1 8GB so you can use the dual channel functionality
-225$ R9 290? Where?
-Im really not sure about that cheap screen'on a 1000$ pc. Then again, i'm not very sure about screens in general. This might help: http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/
i found a 290 on ebay for that cheap
in my research there really isnt that much difference between 1x8 and 2x4 and 1x8 was cheaper
for not having a ssd, i dont really mind boot and loading times that much
whats the difference between a z87 and a z97? because in my research that z87 is a good board and its cheap as hell after rebate. yes, i'm planning on overclocking a bit.
