Sorry for being a scrub-lord, but due to the time constraints and part availability, I was going to have this all made at pc specialist. They made the last one and it lasted a pretty long time. You made a lot of really good points and I hope I can manage to answer them all. First off I'm disregarding the network/sound card and the monitor; I already own a monitor so there is little point blowing cash on a new one just yet. For the 980 tis, could you tell me what the difference between ref and nonref is? The power grid is a tricky one cause supposedly, pc specialist says my max requirement would be 1600w if I was to go three way sli, (which I barley see go over 1500w any way). It could be a weird bug how ever, I'll have to check. Pc Specialist does not sell the h110i however I might find a work around. The part that got me most interested is the casing. Cosmos 2 is really huge, unfortunately the lang li is not available in pc specialist. Would the corsair 540 air work instead?
What do you do for a living?

All reference cards as a result are exactly the same. A non-reference card has a PCB and cooler that has been modified by the manufacturer, usually the R&D needed for these makes them more expensive, but they run cooler and have factory overclocks. Titan X cards are all Reference, Nvidia does not allow non-reference production of it. As a result some factory overclocked 980tis that are non-reference come more powerful than the reference Titan X cards. The 540 is better, other good full towers include the NZXT H630, CM HAF X and the classic Antec 1200. Might I suggest you selfbuild and buy the parts from Scan? They will ship parts to arrive next day or for a specific time to arrive and they're the most reputable part store in the UK. It's the best way to save money on components and assure yourself everything is good with your build. A 950W Tier 1 PSU can boot 4 Titan X cards and an overclocked 5960X, there's a video floating around of that being tested. I really would not worry about needing 1500, as Maxwell (900 series Nvidia) are pretty power efficient. That phanteks case is very popular and bang-for-buck right now. 3XS systems should be able to build you anything out of Scan's stock if you like. Also there is a guy on ebay that auctions off sealed box 5960X processors for 600-650 pounds, that is where I got mine, so you might be able to go with that if you like. His username is maltesefalcon01 and he has a stupid high amount of reputation points.
So, apologies if I look like the tourist in the tech shop at the minute, but is a decent MicroATX build possible on a £1000 budget? Good enough for Maya/Photoshop/Zbrush/gaming and all that jazz.

Its not for me I just wanted to gauge where ATX builds were around. Thank you for the responses.

Eurocracy has a twin 980Ti setup for 4k, maybe he can detail what you can expect at that resolution.
Going to buy a new SSD and HDD. Anything else I should buy?
I'm waiting on my paycheck to finish that build completely, so I can't give details.
Woops, I read those posts as if you already had it :v:
Looking at the image I posted above, whats bottlenecking me? Should I update my RAM or CPU?
Looking at the image I posted above, whats bottlenecking me? Should I update my RAM or CPU?
I would upgrade the CPU if anything. You'll have to check to see if your motherboard is compatible though. If not, a new mobo+cpu
I'm not really good with Mobo and CPU stuff, do you have any idea if the Mobo is good enough or would it need an upgrade too? What CPU would be a good upgrade?
I would get http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128715 And http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819117372&cm_re=4690k-_-19-117-372-_-Product
A 2500k really shouldn't be holding you back. Have you overclocked it at all?
What makes that mobo better than my current one?
How's this build? [t]https://d.maxfile.ro/rjxpnxequt.png[/t] I already have a GPU for it ( AMD R9 290 Tri-X ), the 550 Watt Psu is going to be replaced by a 600 Watt one and the 120GB SSD is going to be replaced by a 250GB SSD
What's a good low profile cooler for a 6600k?
What makes that mobo better than my current one?
Your CPU has to be compatible with your motherboard. From your speccy, your motherboard has the slot LGA1155, so you can only slot CPUs in with that same slot. 1155 is a bit old now, however, so if you are planning to get a newer CPU, you need a motherboard compatible with that CPU. Intel's newer processors are either 1150 (for Haswell and Broadwell) or 1151 for their newer Skylake ones that just came out. Personally, your setup seems pretty OK. Unless you have some money to burn, I wouldn't recommend upgrading your CPU. [editline]14th September 2015[/editline]
How's this build? I assume with an i5-4570 and an R9 290, you're going to use it for games, in which case it'll be a better idea to get 8GB of Ram instead of 4.
I need a cpu, GPU, motherboard, PSU and a case for around 400$ up to 500$ us. I'd prefer buying from amazon, but what's the best parts for this price? It'll be more gaming than anything else. I was thinking a core i3 and a 960 but I assume there are better cards and gpus for the price. Id like to stay under 400$ if possible without sacrificing quality, especially in mgsv

For the GPU price range you're looking at, it's hard to beat the 960 unless you're going for AMD (in which case, get an R9 380). At cheaper builds, it's pretty much alright to cheap out on a motherboard, a cheap Gigabyte one should be fine, just make sure it is compatible with the i3 you're getting, the LGA socket is what you're looking for, make sure they match up. I would also recommend splurging at least a little bit to get an i5, but it's up to you. I would recommend getting an 80-plus PSU or at least looking at reviews to make sure you're not getting some shitty Chinese unit that'll fall apart after a month. The case is pretty much the least important, you can get literally any mid-tower.
So I'm going to be upgrading my 5 year old desktop with an R7 260x GPU, will it be enough to use the Enermax 405W PSU already in it? The desktop itself has low-end specs with a Core2Duo CPU, 4 gigs of ram, 2 hard drives and a standard mobo.

Ok, so I upgraded my PSU to a Corsair one (CX750M), and swapped the mobo for a more fitting ASUS A88X Pro. Upon trying to boot my newly altered build into BIOS (post, then bios), it continually failed to post and then would either spit out an ASUS Q-code of 00, 64, or 66. Anyone know what those necessarily indicate? (Googling them showed issues with the CPU not booting, and the memory having an issue if the 64/66 stayed lit on the mobo's LED readout and no POST occurred.)
I'm currently planning on getting a MSI GTX 980, do you guys think it's a good purchase? Or are there cheaper alternatives with same'ish specifications as a 980? Would a 650w PSU be fine with a setup like this: GTX 980 i5 4670k (stock clocks) 16gb RAM

Get a SC one at least
