New budget is $700 at most. Anything else but a new GPU? May pick up an SSD on sale at some point as well. [editline]24th September 2015[/editline] Aaaaand there goes my merge.
Decided to go with building a new PC. I have hard drives already and I would like to be able to upgrade the GPU and RAM when the time comes. Any recommendations? Ok so thanks for the suggestions for the monitors, however I am having a hard time picking apart the differences between them. These are the ones I've looked at: Asus VG248QE - $375 BenQ XL2420Z - $350 Acer GN246HL - $260 BenQ XL2430T - $445 I can honestly afford all of these, but I am not sure why I would pick one BenQ over the other, or why the Acer is so much cheaper. Any input would be great.

Wait the BenQ's can scale down from a higher size? I might just invest in a 27 inch then.
acer doesn't have a displayport input and not all GPUs have a DVI-D output.
acer doesn't have a displayport input and not all GPUs have a DVI-D output.
Show me which ones don't. Extremely rare for a consumer GPU not to.
Show me which ones don't. Extremely rare for a consumer GPU not to.
like my evga 980 ti, lol although to be fair I kind of assumed it's not uncommon for GPUs to not have one based on the fact that NVidia's flagship doesn't have one.
How much better is a i5-6600k over an i5-4690k?
How much better is a i5-6600k over an i5-4690k?
not much unless you feel like paying out the ass for DDR4
Apologies if this has been mentioned elsewhere in the thread, but what's the reason for Mushkin RAM being preferred in the builds in the OP? Over here in the UK Corsair Vengeance is almost £20 cheaper, as is G.Skill Ripjaws X; is there something I'm missing?
My GPU fan stopped rotating again. Is there a way to keep the fan wires in one area so I don't have to re-adjust them every week? There's not much to zip tie it to

Aw damn forgot to add a networking adapter to my build. What do you guys recommend that is cheap and powerful? I see TP-Link and Asus have ~35$ wireless adapters that go on the mobo.
Which one? Every one I see has a DVI port.
ohh ok. i see where i went wrong i confused myself because i saw dvi i and thought it wasn't a dual link port
Noob question, but how important is thermal paste for a cpu?
Noob question, but how important is thermal paste for a cpu?
Pretty important, heat doesn't travel very well from the CPU to the heatsink without it.
Noob question, but how important is thermal paste for a cpu?
You're gonna need to use it if you want to actually use your computer.
Pretty important, heat doesn't travel very well from the CPU to the heatsink without it.
Do most heatsinks that aren't stock heatsinks come with any?
In a few cases yes, but typically no. I wouldn't count on them providing TIM.
Heatsinks usually either come with it already applied or seperate in a tube.
Heatsinks usually either come with it already applied or seperate in a tube.
Is it better to buy one tube separately from the heatsink?
