ALSO, with the Corsair, does the 2133Mhz model do anything significantly better than the 1600Mhz?
Pretty much no unless you're running off of integrated graphics and/or doing fancy stuff like rendering. In day to day use and gaming, you won't notice any difference.
It can improve minimum frame rates though, which is really nice. Overall smoother experience.
I'm considering getting this PSU. What do you think of it?

Hey guys, I'm building my first PC and I plan on using it mostly for Adobe CC programs and everyday gaming, nothing too serious. I'm considering upgrading RAM (or maybe just getting one 8GB stick that I can add to later?), and the GPU isn't that great, but I figure it's better to buy a $150 GPU and upgrade to a $500 one later than it is to buy a $300 GPU and get out of my price zone.
TL;DR: I need a nice computer for Adobe stuff and I know nothing about building, so here's a list of stuff I found on Amazon for somewhat reasonable prices. Is this all reasonable? Am I making any huge mistakes? Please guide me:

I'll take these suggestions into serious considerations, but I'm a little confused about what CPU coolers are for and why they're necessary, could you explain?
I'll take these suggestions into serious considerations, but I'm a little confused about what CPU coolers are for and why they're necessary, could you explain?
The CPU itself generally outputs a lot of heat and requires it's own cooler. The popular options are air cooling -- not as good as water cooling but is generally cheaper and can get pretty close. General rule of thumb is that water cooling is mfor if you have extra money to spend. A great air cooled CPU heat sink costs about the same as a pretty shitty water cooling block. Look in to the Noctua NH-D14 or Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO
Look in to the Noctua NH-D14 or Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO
So one of those is $25 and the other is $75, is there any reason to prefer the more expensive one?
So one of those is $25 and the other is $75, is there any reason to prefer the more expensive one?
The expensive one is the best you're gonna get for air cooling -- it comes pretty damn close to water cooling performance believe it or not. You're not going to get that with the cheaper one, but it's still pretty damn solid for the price
Considering those factors, I went for one right in the middle. The NH-L12

I still have two questions, though: Do I really need a 750W PSU if the components only need ~300W, and does it matter that the selected copy of Windows is OEM?
No, but that's not a very good PSU. Get this one and you'll be ready for any GPU you can throw in there when the time comes to upgrade.
[editline]27th September 2015[/editline]
Also since you don't know much about this stuff, I take it you probably won't be overclocking? If not you can drop down to a 4690 non-k and an H97 board. Also the stock cooler would work fine for you if that were the case. Then you could put some extra cash to a better GPU.
This is all very useful information! Thank you very much, I'll get back with a once-again-updated list. And by "stock cooler" do you mean whatever is built into the CPU?
In the CPU box they include a fairly basic cooler that's adequate for the stock non-overclocked processor.
This is all very useful information! Thank you very much, I'll get back with a once-again-updated list. And by "stock cooler" do you mean whatever is built into the CPU?
It's not built in, but it comes with it in the box and while it's not great, it's pretty good and even easier to install than most aftermarket coolers
Instead of going back and forth a bunch I just went ahead and threw together what I'd recommend.

Sub the Radeon out for an Nvidia card, he's mainly using Adobe apps
Oh man, thanks, this is totally doable with my budget! I probably won't be getting all the parts until the holiday season, but now I've got a pretty solid list of parts. And yeah, I've been flirting with AMD but my software never seems to want me to switch over to it. It won't be a problem finding a more or less equivalent Nvidia GPU though
Or right, forgot about adobe's bias. Sub in this.

Also just make another post near when you're going to be buying. No telling how prices will change, and if you live near a fry's or microcenter you can get some sweet deals.
How good is an Athlon x4 860k compared to other processors?
Price / performance: Good
Overall for gaming: Meh (ish)
It's a budget CPU with good overclock ability. Will run all source games, and non CPU heavy games no problem.
But GTA-IV/V, Planetside 2, RTS's games with alot of units, etc will struggle.

Yep. Excellent i3 competitor for GPU heavy or well multithreaded games at the price of a Pentium.
Are XFX PSU's rebranded Seasonic units? I need a reliable, fully modular PSU to replace mine before a GPU upgrade and their 650W XTR looks the business.

Can someone elaborate? I've looked this up and it seems to have good reviews. Is Thermaltake a brand I should avoid or something?

There was a guide on Something Awful for the best brands of PSU to get/what was rebadged as what but I can't find it now
Just generally stick to SeaSonic if you can
