Positive pressure best pressure. Just run all your fans intake except for your rear.
Looks good. Imo tho with that price i would get the new boards and ddr4

any thoughts on this? i already have an ssd and i'll be using my current 970, i'll be sticking my old 760 in my old pc and selling it with the old hard drive
Friend wants to get new PC, has budget of 650 GBP with a catch though - he doesn't have that money.
He was gonna buy one of the shitty prebuilds from PC world as they allow monthly payments but they are all shit and overpriced.
So he's okay with sending me money monthly and I do the build over next 2-3 months.
He mainly wants to play star wars battlefront and few other intensive games,
I was thinking of build like this:

Any suggestions where to save money and where something needs upgrade? (He has one hard drive at home form old PC so he can re-use that)
Two questions;
1. Are the current top end amd cpus really that lacking compared to intel cpus of the same price bracket?
2. Are workstation gpus really worth buying as a casual consumer?
Im looking to build a new pc soon, it wont really be a gaming rig since i dont game much anymore, but now i do a lot of CAD and some dynamics simulations, but workstatiom cards are pretty expensive and im not sure if i would see a benefit. Same with intel cpus
Okay, I think I finally have an idea for all of my components.

A general gaming, video editing, 3D modelling rig that makes use of the more up-to-date parts of my current PC (and I might be able to recycle my case fans too).
Does it look alright?
Alright. I do plan to overclock in the future, and hopefully my 560 Ti will be okay for a little while.

Right now, it's with my university work and a hobbyist thing using SolidWorks, not super complex, if I had to put a grade on it, it would probably be a medium complexity thing. Large-ish surface models being cars but not super detailed. Solid modelling would probably end up being large number of components in an assembly and rendering. Simulation wise things like high mesh density compressive/tensile/bending test simulation (stress/strain), low-level fluid flow analysis, mostly using ANSYS.
This laptop now is really starting to struggle on simple tessellated mesostructures and it's really frustrating to use. I need a PC that will handle it fine and then some on top of that for "future proofing". Only thing is my budget right now tops out at £900 and I need monitors included in that, so an expensive workstation gpu will really have to justify itself over a bog standard gaming gpu. Productivity time is not big deal for me right now, I'm not in industry just yet and can afford to wait a little longer for something to render for example if it means not spending so much money.

A big thing for me is stability
So, got the DOA CoolerMaster Seidon 240m replaced with a new one, and this is just so much better. With my old case and my stock intel cooler, running Folding@Home on medium power would send my cpu temps up to 100c and my GPU temps up into the 50s. Now, with my new CoolerMaster Pro 5 case having the two front fans pushing in, the 980 Ti's radiator/fan where the exhaust fan used to be, and the Seidon 240m's radiator/fans in the top slot pushing out, neither my cpu nor my gpu breaks out of the 40s with folding@home set to full power and my fans set on like 50%. It's also much quieter than before as well.

I use solid works every day at work (Mechanical engineer) and continuously have machines with 20k+ parts on my screen.
Full setup:
-Intel Xeon E3-1245 v3 (3.4 Ghz Octo core)
-Nvidia Quadro K2000 (Similar to that firepro)
-16GB Ram
This works fine and smooth on the K2000’s but the with the K1000 laptops we also have here it is somewhat slower and stutters a bit. (But is 100% fine with smaller 5k part assmbly’s). We also had issues where complex mates screw themselves up over apparently nothing. This happens more the crappier your GPU is. But well you just CTRL+Z and try again so no big issue.
Opening these machines on my home pc (i5-4670K+8Gb RAM+Nvidia 970) does work. But things like measurements take seconds to calculate instead of instantaneously and it just runs slow overall. Complex mates are a no go in large assembly’s. You can also never be sure of these dimensions because gaming GPU’s can randomize stuff if the calculation takes too long.(Which is really frequent in CAD) Simpler stuff and rendering is 100% fine though. Solidworks uses CPU rendering. I have not worked on my home PC enough to know if it crashes more or less compared to my work pc.
In my opinion, I would get a cheap workstation card instead of that expensive firepro. Unless you really want to have models the complexity of a complete car engine open on your laptop, which I highly doubt you will if you are in school. Also bear in mind that once you get to work, your boss will probably provide a capable pc for you.
What are the current go to hdds?
I currently have two 1TB Spinpoint F3's in my PC but those are full and not sold any more, looking for a 2TB disk and a budget of around €80
I'll probably put movies/downloads on there so 5200RPM shouldn't be a problem

Thanks a bunch, my main problem with looking at these is that I couldn't appreciate the extra power it gave when going to the next level of card, unlike cards like the gtx960/970/980 where I could grasp how it affected the frame rates at higher graphics settings in comparison to the rest. By the sound of it, a cheaper workstation card like you said would be fine and a normal gtx960/970 would probably suit my needs just fine also, along with a 4th gen i5 quad core

I want to upgrade my Athlon 64 x2 with a newer model.
Heres something i looked up:
CPU: Intel BX80662I56400 Core i5-6400
Motherboard: MSI Mainboard H110M PRO-VD
DDR4: Crucial CT8G4DFD8213 1 x 8GB
GPU: (Recycled)
Case: Sharkoon CA-M Micro ATX Case
PSU: (Recycled)
Any thoughts ? Because im about to hit order
Now im not a person that has a lot of money. I have used my Athlon 64 x2 for almost 9 years now i think its time to upgrade. When i have more money in the future i will upgrade my GPU
I'd recommend the WD Black to hell and back. Mine has been great. I'd suggest a noise-controlling mount though. My WD Black is noisy. It's not broken, it's just a louder drive.
My 3tb Toshiba is loud enough to hear outside the case, but my 1tb wd blue may as well not exist, I've never heard it.

Will that work/be better with my current system?

Hey guys,
Quick question, I've had my PC nearly 3 years now.
Want to get an upgrade as i'm feeling its becoming more sluggish playing new games.
Question:
I have an i7 - 3770k OC'd to 4.5Ghz, 8GB RAM and a GTX 670. Would I be best served whacking a top of the line GPU in, or is my CPU going to be the major slowdown?
Thanks!
I'd get a new GPU and 8 more gigs of ram.
I'd get a new GPU and 8 more gigs of ram.
What benefit is there in getting more RAM, i've always kind of been skeptical with how much extra usability / performance having another 8GB would give me in gaming? I don't do any strenuous stuff like editing / modelling so I didn't think it would help?
Currently I have this RAM: http://www.scan.co.uk/products/8gb-(2x4gb)-corsair-ddr3-vengeance-jet-black-lp-pc3-12800-(1600)-non-ecc-cas-9-9-9-24-xmp-15v
What would I do? Buy another set of this or buy a new 16GB set?
Also any generally accepted choices for Nvidia GPU cards at the moment? My mobo is this: http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4140#ov
I prefer having 16 gigs for the extra headroom, since a lot of newer games are starting to push past the norm. Not only that but I also enjoy the benefit of alt+tabbing from a ram intensive game and still do a lot of extra stuff with ease. However I do a lot of audio and video work now so it uses that nicely.
I would get the same ram with another set of 8. If you don't want to spend the money though you'll be fine with the 8.
Depending on your budget for the GPU a 970 or 980 will be fine. Not sure if this utilizes only Crossfire multi GPU, but if you wanted to bridge two GPU's maybe an AMD card would work better.

Is there a huge huge difference between 70 and 80?
I've been out of PC Hardware for ages since I built this PC as it's done what I wanted for years.
Looking at 970s, there seems to be alot of different interations, like the EVGA, Gigabyte etc. I was leaning towards the MSI card but not had any cards from them before, is there a standout winner of the brand in the 970 or are they all much alike allowing me to just buy the cheapest of the cards?
I do have the budget for the 980 but i'd probably end up wanting to overhaul MOBO CPU etc aswell when I start sinking £400+ onto a card, so I think i'd rather plump for a 970?!
A new 6700k would be barely better than your 3770k.
I posted this in the quick questions thread; but I'll repost it again here too. I want to upgrade my graphics card for Fallout 4, as I think it's the only thing I don't meet the minimum requirements (My CPU is a little low too). The plan is to transfer the card to a new machine hopefully by this time next year.
I currently have in my computer 8gbs of ram, my processor is a PhenomII X6 1055T @ 2.80GHz, and a Radeon 5880.
Is a 970 a logical choice? Are there any other options?
While I have some idea as to what a PC needs and how to assemble one, I have no idea what's good, what's bad, what's a bargin, and what's overpriced when it comes to componants. Simply put, I need a shopping list for a PC that will wow me (a relatively simple task honestly) when playing Fallout 4. I'm tired of this tablet, my 360, and before that I was tired of running Morrowind on minimum settings and it still being janky. I want a PC that can run current-gen games above minimum settings with as little jankiness as possible. Budget will be a lowball at ~£600 and a highball of ~£800, so try and go inbetween those numbers. Fallout 4 required specs. Please note I work nights GMT and my 4-day work week exhausts me completely so replies to inquires may be slow.
