I personally don't like AVG cause I feel like it doesn't detect viruses very well nor remove them, I had AVG delete a virus 3 times and it still wasnt deleted, I had to download Mbam and avast just to get rid of it.
i would agree with you on that in certain cases, a virus can be found again and again by avg if it is in a restore point.
I didn't use an anti-virus for the longest time because it was unnecessary, my browser is sandboxed and anything that I downloaded and was malicious I could remove by myself. But I figured that MSE is so lightweight, and the fact that I don't even notice it's running is what made me use it. It sits idle in my tray waiting for some evil program to try to molest me and it stops it! Even though that hasn't happened (proves my point I don't need an AV) I still leave it running.
That's the nice thing about modern computers, anti viruses are so light on the system (because they're so powerful) that you get the protection without any of the drawbacks.
Good luck with those vulnerabilities...
Oh because you think anti virus systems block vulnerabilities..?
Very few do that and it's most of the time not even accurate.
I guess you can expect that when you're running Windows 2000 and IE6.

They don't block the vulnerabilities, but they block the viruses that use the vulnerability to get into your system.

Even when I'm not?
Why nobody uses Antivir? It has good scores, the interface is pretty streamlined and it's pretty lightweight.

Annoying popups.
i use AVG
No, AVG is shit in my experience. First thing it found on the first scan was its uninstaller and it also used up all the low power my old PC had (a 1.5GHz AMD something and 512MB of RAM)
Avast! made everything better on it.
Now I like Avast! and MSE and sometimes scan with MBAM.
Go Avast. Its risen above all the others in the last few months. AVG and MSE have been letting certain virus's through yet Avast has caught all of them.
Just make sure when you install a new AV that you be sure you've deleted files that some AV hide in the registry.
I like Microsoft Security Essentials. It's free, it doesn't hog up too much memory, it streamlines with the OS, and so far it's done very well for me.

I like it too, but I just think Avast has more features.

I can agree, I used Avast! for quite a while but I realized that I'm not one to really stumble into viruses. I don't sporadically download stuff much anymore so I decided to go with something a little more minimal.

I never get viruses either, but it's just a nice layer of protection that's there when its necessary (if ever). I have 8GB of RAM so I have plenty of overhead. I never even notice Avast until it updates.
I'm using avg free version. It works fine to me.
I use a combination of NOD32 and Spybot, with the obvious NoScript/Adblock.
I use MSE. I am not one to browse to questionable areas of the internet. Plus I have extensions such as adblock and ghostery.
Of course, any single AV isn't going to stop everything. Occasionally should also run a few stand alone scanners to see if anything made it's way through.
