After alot of help from fp i have chosen my components for my 1st build and will start on it soon. My budget is quite iffy and is able to change (moderatly from around £40-£50 max) but would rather i kept it as low as possible. Im looking at building a mid range pc primary used for gaming (latest games but don't need to run crysis at top quality with 4874335389 fps!) and would like it to last a few years maybe without an upgrade! i am not too botherd about the hdd size and have a spare optical drive if needed but i don't think i will use and will proberly end up buying an external one somewhere along the line. So this is what i have chosen.
Case: Antec 300 £45.99

HDD: Hitachi Deskstar T7K500 250GB SATA-II - £32

http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/specpage.html?GIG-770UD3
CPU: AMD Phenom X3 Tri Core 8750 Black Edition 2.40GHz Socket AM2 - £104

Memory: Corsair Dominator 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 PC2-8500C5 1066MHz - £37

GPU: Asus ATI Radeon HD 4770 512MB GDDR5 - £87

PSU: Corsair vx 550w - £70.14

Suggested by Slashs_alt (thanks for helping by the way!)
Im pretty sure thats everything! That adds up to £443 if im right, if i could skim some off the price that would be good but i dont want to if it will lower the performance in anyway. If you have any suggestions please tell me them! I would like to know anybody's opinion on what i could change or anything as i havent orderd any parts yet and would like to know before i do so!!
Thanks!
EDIT:
I forgot to mention i havent chosen an OS and might go over to vista 7 beta but thats not set in stone and still thinking about it. any ideas?
I'v been looking at a few reviews of the CPU and am not too sure about it.. has anybody else got any ideas on how well the tri-core preforms?
tricores work pretty well, you should look into the AM3 cores though

Ok im going to get that mobo and the AMD Phenom II Black Edition X3 Tri Core 720 2.8GHz Socket AM3 - Retail the more expensive alternative! thanks! so now thats what.. £470 total now?
I have a friend with the same setup only with a 4830 the 4770s hadn't came out and he overclocked the cpu with a 16x multiplier and his temps went up 3 degrees celcius. It put the cpu at 3.2 ghz.

Thats pretty neat!
Yeah and the 4770 is a beast of an overlclocker. Also for reference he got to 3.2 ghz on stock.

Sorry for epic bump but im now going to start this build! i am going to proberly purchase the mobo tonight (http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/specpage.html?ASU-M4A78P) and will slowly get the other components. I will get that PSU thanks as it is alot cheaper and looks like a much better deal. But why buy it all at once? I was actually thinking of buying it all at once but i would prefer to buy it bit by bit as its less of a large drop on my funds and more of a slow stream but im still not sure if i should buy Everything. Also anybody got any opinions on ATI? i have never used an ATI card and would like to know if any more ideas on that.
http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/specpage.html?OCZ-8500GD
I would spend the extra money and get 4 gigs of ram.
Or only go 800 mhz and save some money.
http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/specpage.html?CSR-644G5C
Also the reason for buying all at once is that it will come all at once. So you don't have computer parts you can't use. Also ATI is a just as good as nviidia. Just make sure to use the drivers on the disk for the 4770.

buying it all at once saves any hassle if something goes out of stock and you have to replace it with something more expensive or not as good which can change the budget and make you have to change other parts too
plus you need it all at once anyway to build it, and depending on the site you'll save cash on delivery if they charge less for bulk orders or for free delivery over £X

Yeah i guess.. i think novatech is free delivery over £50 which is why i chose them. Do you think that will count like for multiple items at once? Eg. the case is £45 and if i got all together would i have to pay Postage on it? or is it like induvidual postage on the items? anyone had any experiance with novatech?
Either get http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/specpage.html?SAM-S320S2
this hdd or this one http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/specpage.html?SG-79S326
They are much better than hitachi.

Thanks! dident notise that page. Looks like the charges are pretty reasonable anyway even if i would have to pay it!
30 kilos are over 60 pounds I think and the case and power supply are not near that heavy and those are the heaviest parts.
Get Windows 7 beta, skip vista.
He is.
Good good and yeah i did mean i was proberly going to get windows 7 beta
Ok sorry for the bump but i have now got the case and mobo and am ordering everything else soon. Also now turns out i need a optical drive and would like to know any suggestions.. would prefer anything thats quite cheap and can burn/read with a half decent speed but im really getting low on cash so any suggestions?
for an optical drive pretty much anything will do
http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/specpage.html?SAM-S223QO has Lightscribe which basically lets you burn labels onto disks the same way as you burn the disk
