I'm thinking of also swapping out my Case. I've hated the Cosmos 2 since I received it. And subsequently stopped believing anything TTL ever said again. So I think what I will do is get the new PSU and case now and then get the new mobo, ram, CPU later in the month probably.
I finally won something from EVGAs giveaways and it's a Monoprice 4k monitor. It ain't the best but at least I'll finally be able to try out 4k and my recently acquired GTX 1080 should power it nicely. Probably won't ditch my 144hz 1080p monitor as my main though.

[editline]10th August 2016[/editline]
Has anyone else here ever built a ghetto Xeon system? I'm talking about modding an LGA 771 CPU and making it work on an LGA 775 Motherboard. I built one for shits n gigs and the motherboard that I'm using supports DDR3 (Max 8GB 1333MHz). I wonder if I should do some liquid cooling to this thing, just to see how it overclocks. Also it doesn't support Windows 10, so I'm stuck with 7 for the time being.
Yeah, built a few back when it was popular. I used to get them from aliexpress when i sold them, there looks to be a few on ebay still. I still have one of those systems with a P5G41t-M LX, i think i had to replace the microcode and flash the modded bios to get it to work though.
Fucking christ, Windows 7 chkdsk killed my 10 drive again
why not just use 10's chkdsk
Fucking christ, Windows 7 chkdsk killed my 10 drive again
Why do you have 7 and 10 together on the same machine?
Gonna buy a Surface RT now that secure boot is broken forever Convince me to not pull the trigger and regret this
Finding a flaw doesn't necessarily mean it's going to be exploited or publicly disclosed. Besides, why would you even want a awful Surface RT just to run another OS?

If they have a 24", I might get that over the Dell when it comes time.
What are the odds? I was listening to an episode of the Invisibilia podcast from my phone in a work truck with the volume on the truck stereo turned all the way down. In the podcast, they played part of the song "Sunglasses at Night". I glanced at the truck stereo for the time and saw on the RDS info that the exact same song was playing on the radio station.
So for the longest time i've had shitty wifi speeds due to verizons shitty ac1700 router and the tech support kept dancing around the ranges for the wifi. Turns out that they're meant only to work within 5-10 feet with AC with no walls or any interference. they hide this in the manuals and whatnot as being 10 feet, but they really mean 10ft^2. not to mention the downtime where the wifi would need to be reset every 5 hours. To clarify, they mean a radius of 10 FT^2 so it's actually got a range of 3.2 feet. My father in law "not married yet" and i talked about it. i convinced him to get a nighthawk x4 because it was on sale for 100$. Was sitting of wifi speeds of 10/20 Now they're at 150/160 with no downtime. Father in law's computer in his den 50 feet away through 7 walls? full bar with 150/160. He's happy.
Just to double confirm. I want to use a set of these: https://www.amazon.com/TP-LINK-Powerline-Pass-through-TL-PA9020P-KIT/dp/B01H74VKZU/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8 To make this: https://www.amazon.com/Ubiquiti-Networks-802-11ac-Dual-Radio-UAP-AC-PRO-US/dp/B015PRO512/ref=sr_1_sc_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1470874398&sr=1-1-spell&keywords=Ubituiti the new AP for the house. I'll plug into the router, then move the second adapter to the center of the home and hook it up. And disable the Wifi on our AC66R, And that should work fine yea? our house was built in 91 so wiring isn't all that old. Or should I look at another AP. My dad's laptop is struggling to get much signal with the router in my room so he's onboard with this plan.

Are you using the wifi router that came with your service?
I couldn't recommend that at all. power line adaptors have a weird thing where they just stop working every so often and refuse to work until you plug them in and out again.
This is a very new Powerline Adapter model. And I know older adapters were not too reliable, but I'm not as concerned about that. It's mainly the AP. I know some people around here love them and I talked to a few people who talked me into it, just wanted to give it a second runthrough around here.
Are you using the wifi router that came with your service?
What do you take me for? Also no. "And disable the Wifi on our AC66R" SB6121 going into a AC66R which is in one corner of the house in my room. This was due to the new cable install we had Comcast do a little while ago. The plan was to basically move the center of our Wifi back to the center of the house. I'm wired to the router, so I don't need it.
Ordered one of those cheapo RCA LCDs meant for being a backup camera in cars. I'm gonna rip apart my old bootleg Famicom and make a portable bootleg Famicom, cuz fuck it I've got a week before school starts :v:

However if you just want wifi that AP is perfect, but you need a POE adapter to use it. some of those models don't come with one, just a fair warning. You'd probably be better off routing a cable from your router through a wall or under a carpet to get it across the house. I'd always use powerline adaptors as a last resort if you're not allowed/not able to do as i've said. My dad got so fed up with the powerline adaptors he actually just drilled a small hole through the wall and poked a cable through and put it on the overhangs. worked out pretty well for the couple of months before he left.
Fucking christ, Windows 7 chkdsk killed my 10 drive again
You know you can press any key to skip chkdsk right?
You know you can press any key to skip chkdsk right?
half the time, if it's like my old install of windows 7, it's timer was on crack and if you're not paying attention, it's inevitable
Ayy I joined a "computing ethics" class that's online and it bumped me up to 16 credits so I get that $900 grant
Finally managed to nearly max out my 16gb after two years. No game I've played has come close, most programs don't touch it. I hit the limit with Fruity Loops and a fuck ton of sample libraries. I guess over 4000 samples playing at once can do that.

That's what I was thinking. Pretty easy to empty a card like that for some RT's.

The 3 packs do depending on model and I believers none of the 5 packs come with them anymore.
The singles come with adapters. The 3 packs do depending on model and I believers none of the 5 packs come with them anymore.
That's great then. I was looking into them as a solution to the terrible wifi we had here and most of the ones I found on Newegg or Amazon had two options, single and single with Poe switch. To be honest by the end of my search there wasn't a clear answer if they did or not. I can start to recommend these easier now knowing they do come with them.

I just ordered the AC pro a couple months ago and it had one.
Why do you have 7 and 10 together on the same machine?
Dual boot. I main 7 for everything and keep 10 around on a 5400 RPM drive (v:v:v) for the occasional Win10 exclusive I.e. Forza and Halo 5 Forge
I thought my VPS was getting network throttled to 80 mbps but it was actually the disk.
wget -O /dev/null http://lg.joesdatacenter.com/5000MB.test 100%[====================================>] 5,000,000,000 92.1MB/s in 74s 2016-08-11 12:12:23 (64.1 MB/s) - ‘/dev/null’ saved [5000000000/5000000000] dd if=/dev/zero of=output.img bs=8k count=128k 131072+0 records in 131072+0 records out 1073741824 bytes (1.1 GB) copied, 100.048 s, 10.7 MB/s dd if=output.img of=/dev/null bs=8k count=128k 131072+0 records in 131072+0 records out 1073741824 bytes (1.1 GB) copied, 0.522524 s, 2.1 GB/s
I was expecting better write speeds from RAID SSDs but the read is still zoom zoom so whatever.
Not when you have other people writing to them at the same time...
It's not actually because the disks are under load it's just flat out limited to 10 MiB/s.
