I think my Arch setup automounts USB sticks in /run/media when I open them up in PCManFM.
BTW brt I recommend not mounting things under /usr since that doesn't stand for 'user' but rather for 'unix system resources'. Don't mess with it unless you know what you're doing.
Wow, I just assumed it was for user installed stuff :v:
Getting a ride on the Linux storage train. I've got one VM that i would like to use as an storage and another three vms that i would like to attach the storage disk. What is the best way to do this kinda of setup since they are into different countries? I've been using sshfs and it's doing it's job nicely, but would be nice to know some other alternatives. I've tried to set up Samba but i think it might offer more that i need to use
guys remember to upgrade your local taco bell to windows 10 [t]https://i.imgur.com/NfsE6Ji.jpg[/t]

Perhaps it's something in the vein of this you're looking for? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Distributed_file_system Although I guess the best alternative is NFS over SSH
Don't mess with it unless you know what you're doing.
This is the specific reason I gave to people why I didn't want to use for Linux for my fileserver, it's new to me. I might not have been dumbed for it, but it felt like it. [editline]20th August 2016[/editline] So if I had my say storage SSD running the OS. Then I had say like 15 drives in btrfs in a RAID1 pool. I'd mount that to a folder? Otherwise where would... it go? Just somewhere in / ? if so, how would I know where data went in a normal system with a few drives. How could I make sure data was on the right places without manually specifying a mount?
You certainly don't want that Canadian managing it after Whonnock. [editline]21st August 2016[/editline] mkdir /mnt/diskpoolorwhateveryouwannacallit sudo mount /dev/disk/by-uuid(which pool/drive) (SPACE) /mnt/diskpoolorwhateveryouwannacallit(where the directory should exist when its mounted) [editline]21st August 2016[/editline] You'll also wanna check out your fstab file if you want it permanently mounted to a specific directory. sudo nano /etc/fstab
I think I remember messing with fstab to mount a network share to a folder so I could restore from Crashplan directly to the host machine. Took me like 4 hours to figure it out. :X
Ok, sorry for asking so much, but just to get my head around it. How would I partition this ~50GB virtualdrive for an ubuntu 16 install? If this is the partition for the entire disk, how can I mount it... inside of... itself? This part confuses me. I partition something and then put the OS on it... right?
So for the purposes of installing an OS, / is what I want. But if I were making separate secondary partitions I'd set them to something else? like making another partition /home? I'm slowely learning, I swear. I feel like an idiot, but it's useful. edit: does this look right?
Kiwi, you're awesome.
nano
honestly i'd disagree with the concept of thinking of / as C: it's just the root, it's not C:
honestly i'd disagree with the concept of thinking of / as C: it's just the root, it's not C:
But you can make C:/ like / because Windows supports mounting as NTFS paths.
it's just the root, it's not C:
As a windows boy, this is such a hard concept to understand. edit:
But you can make C:/ like / because Windows supports mounting as NTFS paths.
Yeah but who does that? Imo its hard to compare the two systems because they are based on two different core concepts. / is just your whole computer, thats it.
nano
'least it's not vi(m) or glorious Emacs
Emacs is the only OS that doesn't include a good text editor. Edit:
As a windows boy, this is such a hard concept to understand. edit:
If you have questions about Linux, your best friends are the Arch Linux wiki and Ubuntu wiki, they have entries on pretty much all fairly well known programs and how to use and configure them. Also, learn how to use man pages. Sounds gay right now but will save your ass in the future. You could also hit me up on steam if you have smaller questions.
'least it's not vi(m) or glorious Emacs
Vim is amazing but I'd consider Emacs if I had an extra 2-3 hands.
'least it's not vi(m) or glorious Emacs
But vi(m) is the only option?
I use gedit
I just echo and then pipe to file.
I use gedit
I use gedit on my Linux desktop but honestly that's a minority of my text editing in Linux.
Well, just noticed FP isn't blocked at my new job. Productivity has now dropped 56,000%.
As a windows boy, this is such a hard concept to understand. edit:
Just imagine partition mount points as symlinks in windows and it might be easier
Also, reddit isn't blocked. And I'm the only one in the office at night. This changes everything. [editline]20th August 2016[/editline] MUH MERGE.
Okay, I think Ubuntu Server is fucking with me. I go through the install process from a USB as I've always done. It installs and everything is just peachy. So on the next boot nothing happens. BIOS loads up, boots from the hard drive, then black screen. I'm fairly certain I should be seeing grub come up because it should be installed along with the server. So I figured something went wrong with the installation. I've now reinstalled Ubuntu server four times and every time I get the same result. The kicker here is that it will stay a black screen indefinitely UNLESS I press the power button, in which case it starts to boot and I see the Ubuntu loading screen for a few seconds before the machine powers off. So the OS is there, it just doesn't boot for whatever reason. I need some opinions on this.
EVGA will accept the RMA if the card actually arrives at some point. Oh well, gotta cross my fingers. For some actual content, my university paid for office365 for every student and are now desperate to get people to use it. When they saw usage rates spike at the beginning of the years then fall to almost nothing within a few months, they initially wrote it off as a bug. They're seemingly on the "bargain" part of the stages of grief now, since they gave these flyers to new students this year [t]http://imgur.com/piUVUrG.jpg[/t] Translation: Free office is a better deal than an old, moldy, half-eaten slice of bread. Yeah, when they put the bar at rock bottom...
I'll gladly have your Office 365 key kjære venn
If it's anything like mine it's tied to your university login, not a key.

Don't read norweigian, could be a false cognate. :v: Any reason why people aren't using it though? I was happy when are university got it because I got the full version of Office without paying extra.
