I've been looking around for cheap touchscreen monitors but those apparently don't exist yet.
Sounds like a perfect purpose for defunct tablets in general, if it wasn't for the fact you'd need some fancy software and communicate over network or USB
It's a surface RT because secureboot is broken and so far they've gotten grub on it. Perhaps someday it'll have linux for arm but right now you can pick them up for as low as $20.
If only there exists a tablet that already runs linux...
If only there exists a tablet that already runs linux...
By default? Very rare. Even so, show me one with the Surface RT's specs for $20.
Or just use X that has networking built in once Linux4Tegra boots To be fair Windows RT isn't half as bad as people picture it to be even without the super cool secure boot unlock
X is like a old yet faithful dog that's well past its prime. There a point where it's best to take it out behind and end it. Here's hoping wayland/weston gets built-in support for actual up-to-date VNC, or something similar and openly documented that also includes sound and second-to-none latency.
RDP?
Windows thing that's not open (as in license, sourcecode and documentation of the protocol)
Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) is a proprietary protocol developed by Microsoft, which provides a user with a graphical interface to connect to another computer over a network connection. The user employs RDP client software for this purpose, while the other computer must run RDP server software.
Let's not use something that has to be reverse engineered if you're not fan of Microsoft's party. Better to continue the open-source 'fork' of VNC instead, even though most of it probably has to be rewritten from scratch.
Where exactly are you finding a surface RT for $20?
Where exactly are you finding a surface RT for $20?
Yeah what Sam said. There were actually some very near that deals though. And RT 2's for under $70 but since grub got loaded on all the cheap ones have disappeared. Wish I picked it up when I first heard of it, Tegra4 tablet with that screen for $70 would have been worth it.
Found out today FPL, Florida Power and Light, our Utility here in Florida has their own fiber network. But they only serve businesses. Keep frothing for that upload.
If only there exists a tablet that already runs linux...
I mean, Android is Linux... :v:
I mean, Android is Linux... :v:
Android uses the Linux kernel, but it is not a GNU/Linux distro like what we colloquially refer to as Linux.
hit me up, i do a lot of WDS/MDT deployment at work.
meh, feels like it would be too overwhelming
:surrender:
There's a reason the GNU team gets pissy about people calling GNU/Linux just "Linux" :v:

I don't know what is scarier, a phone interview or a in-person interview.
I don't know what is scarier, a phone interview or a in-person interview.
I did both, at the same time. The people I was meeting in-person called their manager to have him ask me questions. It really isn't anything to worry about either way. The phone would probably be just a hair more awkward for you since there isn't anything to look at in the face.
I'm afraid of playing more Deus Ex, because it performs like dog shit, and I might go over the 2 hour limit if I keep playing. Fuck. [editline]24th August 2016[/editline] Runs well enough that I can play.
I don't know what is scarier, a phone interview or a in-person interview.
phone, IMO. I prefer talking to someone face to face.
Any time I am on the phone half my mental capacity is diverted to how to get off the phone as fast as possible. Hate talking on phones. Landline audio quality gives me cancer every time.
Even cell phone audio quality is terrible. Whenever someone calls me via hangouts I'm like "this is what phone should sound like"
I have auditory dyslexia which is made way worse by the shitty quality of phone calls so I try to avoid phone interviews whenever possible.
Even cell phone audio quality is terrible. Whenever someone calls me via hangouts I'm like "this is what phone should sound like"
Is VoLTE a thing in the US? The first time I called someone on my new phone, it was disturbing. I could hear everything. It sounded as clear or better than calling another extension on our VoIP system at the office.

2 bars is a good day where I am. Usually it's 0-1. Still, 4G with 2 bars is a good 3x faster than my broadband.
I have 100/100 internet but can't get a good phone connection to save my life. Life in the boonies is rough.
Just an FYI to you guys, drive safe. When you get to intersections or stop signs, check both ways before you go. And if you're driving and you get to a red light or stop sign, you fucking stop. Period. Currently sitting at home covered in ice packs, bruises and scrapes. My coworker who was driving and myself are super lucky to be alive because some dumb bitch ran a red light [t]http://i.imgur.com/p3p9JD4.jpg[/t] [editline]23rd August 2016[/editline] If she had done it quarter of a second later, we'd probably both be in the hospital right now
I have 100/100 internet but can't get a good phone connection to save my life. Life in the boonies is rough.
I live in the suburban greater LA area in a city with a population of nearly 200,000 and I still only get like two fucking bars with AT&T. the best available internet service in my area is also only 60/4
I live in the suburban greater LA area in a city with a population of nearly 200,000 and I still only get like two fucking bars with AT&T. the best available internet service in my area is also only 60/4
I've got AT&T out here and it's shoddy at best. Verizon is worse. The only good carrier out here is one that's pretty much exclusive to Mississippi and I travel out of state a lot so that's a no go. Only reason they have good coverage is because the owner bought the whole big ass island across the lake from me and wanted good reception so he built 3 towers.
Even cell phone audio quality is terrible. Whenever someone calls me via hangouts I'm like "this is what phone should sound like"
I find Verizon's voice quality to be utter trash. 6 years ago my Nokia E63 could call my landline with Unicell (so no 3G support at all, EDGE only) and music would be pretty damn clear. On Verizon, I'd be lucky to make out the words. I can barely make out words in conversations as it is. And that's with great 4G reception, but Verizon is still stuck in 1998 and is still using 2G voice in non-VoLTE markets. I'm willing to move to AT&T for that reason alone so I have GSM voice quality again and spend less than 50% of conversations asking people to repeat that.
