I'm thinking I'm going to consolidate my subscriptions for various things down to one dedicated server. Question is, dual e5420's (2.5ghz quad core 771) with 16gb DDR2 and 2tb drive, or i7 2600 (2.7ghz quad core with HT 1155) with 16gb DDR3 and 1tb drive? They're the same price and I probably really only need like 500gb storage. [editline]8th July 2016[/editline] Going to be running a light game server or two, backing up small important things, running a couple VOIP servers, VPN.
How much of a terrible idea is it to put a hot laptop into my freezer while it's exporting a video? Granted that it will probably run on battery power unless I can get the charger cable through without messing up the sealing of the freezer. Shouldn't be too hard, would likely just have it through the door and just close it tightly. Assuming footage and everything is on the internal storage of the laptop.
Not only do you have to worry about condensation, but also freezers/fridges are not designed to cool a constant heat source. By putting a computer in there, the heat produced by the computer will cause the freezer to work constantly in order to get rid of all of the heat. This not only uses a significant amount of electricity, but it also wears out parts like the compressor, because they are designed to be used for short periods of time, not constantly.
The i7 would be better because single threaded reasons plus power consumption
I mean power consumption doesn't matter for shit, I'm not hosting it.
Fair enough, I was leaning towards the i7 in the first place. I don't think 1tb will be an issue.
Anybody know where I can sell old apple stuff to people who will pay too much for it? Have an apple IIgs with pretty much all the accessories, manuals, and boxes. I need it gone; it takes up way too much space.
Wow, my credit union/bank is moving up in the world. I got a new debit card last fall and it was a plain old mag stripe card so I figured they were too cheap to upgrade. I got an email saying they're sending me a replacement credit card with a chip, even though my credit card doesn't expire till November.
I personally don't like those chips, I don't like the idea that anybody with an RFID scanner can walk by and hijack it and I like my wallets very thin so RFID protection is out of the question.
Do you guys think the Jonsbo UMX4 is decent case?
Try eM Client http://www.emclient.com/
Too bad I have more than 2 email accounts that I would want to connect to it and it's $50CAD to connect to more. Although I would be willing to give it a shot for 2 accounts, or just one.
I got bored last night, and I was browsing the games section of the Play Store. Found an Android clone of MechWarrior Online. Downloaded it. I now gave it a try. 6v6 online multiplayer only. The damage statistics in my second game tell a lot, especially the fact that nobody else has changed the default name. [t]http://i.imgur.com/NsrmOqs.png[/t] Mobile gaming, truly the future.
Do you guys think the Jonsbo UMX4 is decent case?
Never heard about Jonsbo in my life. Is it cheap?
Never heard about Jonsbo in my life. Is it cheap?
I don't know, it was the only aluminium case I could find that wasn't for custom water cooling loops. Also, I was thinking about upgrading to a newer x99 system, but the i7 6900K isn't able to beat my 4 year old Xeon 2650 v1s at rendering, thanks for sitting on your asses Intel.
so i just learned a big lesson today. NEVER plug in console hard drives to a PC, or they will screw over with formatting, forcing you to format again. So idk, my PS3 is now obsolete since all the games that were installed are gone, saves are gone, and i don't want to bother days to install/redownload the games. So either i'll sell it or trade it to a Xbox 360

also NFC range is like 4cm if someone's holding an NFC scanner 4cm from your wallet, you might have bigger issues
It might sound dumb but in my opinion, the UI feels better and makes sense to me a bit more than Thunderbird. But due to the annoying shit that is Outlook, I have installed Thunderbird, did the setup without any issues and everything WORKS. So yeah, not using Outlook anymore. edit: one thing I wished Thunderbird had was the ability to just paste whatever is in the clipboard into the Signatures section in the email account setup. In Outlook, it has a nice editor for it and everything. I ended up opening Microsoft Word, pasting it there from GMail, and saving it as a HTML file to import it into Thunderbird. I didn't want to remake my signature which has a bunch of links on it from work.
Pro-tip: Create your signature in a body of an email. Highlight the signature. Click insert HTML. And then you have that raw HTML you can insert into your signature.

Those were a security issue because they just blasted your CC info, which wasn't good. The newer NFC kind do not hand over your CC info in plain text. Its two way communication and uses tokens. Even if they manage to grab that info (which they would need to do at the terminal), it will be immediately useless as that token is good for only one transaction. People tend to get those confused an awful lot.
Do you guys know a way in Windows 8.1 to force a display driver to use WDDM 1.2? I got a guy who wanted Windows reinstalled on his ancient tower and the display driver is only supported through WDDM. It keeps installing the MS basic display adapter driver.
I hate it when there's a ContentID on a YouTube video and there is no way to tell them that ContentID fucked up and it's not using the song that has been identified.
It must've been fucking training day or something at dish network. I had to call to set stuff up 3 times and it took me like an hour each time and no one could do anything right.
I used to be a Dish customer. Fuck Dish.
I know a friend who a certain Canadian also knows who used to work for Dish. Fuck Dish.
We're a bulk reseller for 3 apartment complexes and it's terrible. We're trying to get out of it and just have dish directly do all the installs and support and we just maintain the QAM infrastructure.

Honestly, all the communication that the chip card does could happen in a fraction of a second, yet the readers require you to insert it for a good 10 or so seconds. I don't see why you couldn't get this to happen faster, and wirelessly while still being secure. The old NFC cards were stupid and responded with plaintext cc info. You could instead encrypt the communication. Maybe I don't fully understand the order and methods of operation enough. I think the "Pay anywhere" tech from Samsung is pretty neat. It wirelessly works even the non-wirelwas magnetic strip card terminals. It creates a pulsed magnetic field that emulates the swiping of a card. Since all the terminals do is detect a magnetic field, it works the same as far as the terminal is concerned.
