and then you have a shitty scart cable so when you breathe on it, the image gets distorted and you have to fiddle with it to get it right again
Well I'm certainly having fun mangling 8 year old TV hardware
TV box -> HDMI -> TV -> TOSLINK -> DVD player
Recently updated the TV box so finally got rid of that SCART bullshit
I love the speaker system we have on our TV
It's so old the only 5.1 input is a weird DIN connector we don't have the adapter for. We also lost the remote, so it's impossible to turn it onto 5.1 mode. meaning the only way to make the rear speakers work is bridging them with the front ones :v:

For whatever reason, dad keeps ignoring my suggestion to pick up a ~$300 logitech system to replace it, instead keeps asking me about these $3000 Bose soundbars that I tell him won't work as well as a proper surround sound, and he really won't notice the difference in quality
Everyone should just use BNC/SDI
I'm very torn right now.
save up and buy this or save up and buy this
both are fun things that replace older things and both are very expensive and I can't make up my mind
Well definitely not the latter that build looks wonky as hell
So Amazon is doing their Prime Day sale. I decided to hop onto the Amazon Prime train since I was also still able to use my student email to sign up.
Found these little USB drives that look like they are super easy to loose..
https://www.amazon.ca/SanDisk-Ultra-SDCZ43-128G-GAM46-Newest-Version/dp/B01BGTG2A0/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1468318438&sr=1-1
But for the price, it looks pretty good..?
I got three that are only 8 GB each and are about a milimeter longer like 5 years ago and have never lost one.
Good luck getting them out of the USB port without a small string or something attached though.
I might be able to pick up one of these for ~$600 from a local government auction. I'm a bit torn about it since it's a great price for that kind of hardware, but there's no way I could utilize all that.

What specs does it have?
How does converting a Windows 7 to 10 product key work exactly?
I've just installed Windows 10 in a VM on my PC, and used one of the product keys Brt gave me.
I've done this because I hope to make sure it's converted to a Windows 10 product key by the end of July.
My question is; can I use the same code again as a Windows 10 code even after the end of July?
I honestly don't get this, I can blindly plug in a power cable, DVI, VGA, PS/2, even those fiddly as dicks threaded Coaxial cables
But HDMI just refuses to go in unless I stare at it
I've really never had problems with plugging in DP blind. I think it's mainly due to the boxy shape and the clips make it easy to line up.
-snip- Decided against it

The key won't work any more and it's now bound to the hardware ID of the virtual machine. So you are going to need another key.
[editline]12th July 2016[/editline]
More accurately the VM can now activate Windows 10 without a key through digital entitlement from the hardware ID. Key is fucked though, not even for Windows 7 activation.
Damnit I'm trying to buy some screws off MSI for my 290x Lightning air cooler but now they're asking for my serial number. It's a review sample so I'm not so sure I want them to know that.
On the topic of talking to customer support, never buy from Bitfenix since their customer support basically doesn't exist.
It's been three weeks and they have yet to properly reply to a ticket regarding a simple fan cable. They keep giving me excuses on why they're taking forever to reply and avoid actually doing their job.
What specs does it have?
It's exactly the same as the one I linked, 32 cores @ 2.24 GHz, 512 GB RAM, no drives with some caddies missing, rails and bezel included.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00M8ABHVQ
960GB SSD for $165
:freakout:
a computer had been having memory management errors
so i ran memtest86 on all four sticks to count error count (mission critical, so no time to waste with binary checking)
i wasn't expecting the number i got
when i stopped the test because it was 2am and i wanted to go to bed, 32gb of ram had 35,000 errors

Rent out some of it? If you have really good internet.
Also. Girlfriend moved into her new apartment. From Bright House she's getting 200+ Mbps down for $55/mo. I need to find out if they have that in my area.
Fuck, the monitor I just bought, and already shipped from amazon, is now 50$ less. I was ONE DAY OFF. FUCK.

Amazon will refund the price difference if it's changed within 7 days of purchase. Contact them about it.

I just checked, they don't do it anymore except on TV's.

I'd still try, you might get some sort of "customer courtesy" from their support
I mean it's worth a shot, the worst they can say is "no, sorry"

Talk to their chat, I did it recently for a phone someone in my family bought. But it has to be sold by them, Amazon.com

I was able to activate a VM and then use the same key for another persons desktop, but that might be because it's still in the 1 year period. We'll know for sure when the period ends. If he had signed into his MS account when doing the activation, it'd be tied to his account.

4x 1080p displays!
:joy:
Got work to order me three Dell P2717H's.
Four 16:9 screens side by side?
That seems somewhat impractical...

You might think that, but where I work I'm normally bouncing between any number of windows, usually have 2 dozen open. You can't have too many monitors for that.
The leftmost display is the laptop display which is 12 inches smaller and also 4K, but I run it at 1080p since Windows 7 DPI scaling.
Back at my previous job, I had convinced the bosses to let me order two GPUs that supported 3 monitors two extra monitors. Which was really useful we were constantly looking at pictures for reference, researching, and listing products. It was pretty awesome.
Literally every workstation at my job runs dual monitors. Decently sized ones too.
but now I'm spoiled. I want 2 at home...
I'd love a plugin for explorer on large desktops that lets you throw windows and files around like shuffleboard pucks but I feel if any developer tried it they would shovel so much other shit on top it wouldn't work anymore.
