Trying to get a minimal Windows 7 Pro VM image up because people can't manage to install it themselves and I had completely forgotten how bad it was at handling permissions. Please tell me again why I need permission from myself to delete my own folders. Usually it happens with files from another drive but these were created not 10 minutes earlier by the same user account. It's clearly bullshit because unlocker can nuke the whole folder and the 30k files instantly but explorer just sits around with it's thumbs up its arse. And RT Seven Lite is made from so much duct tape that it sometimes just resets the whole computer if you swap to the features removal tab too many times (too many being twice). Lecturer appears to have a ladyboner for over applying copyright (no don't upload those free book companions in a single 7z that's 60% smaller so people don't have to download 15 individual sfx auto extractors because copyright :)) so I can almost guarantee she will want it taken down but I have to try. Fuck textbook publishers, cunts the lot of them.
Do you even need to ask this?
Read those specs (except for the wireless, because I've upgraded that to b/g). Even maxed it might be a bit of a push to keep the system useably fast once everything is installed, validated and updated.
I'm maxed at 2gb and slot 2 has been reflowed to ensure it doesn't thermally flex loose.
If you actually have 256MB of ram you're better off installing Linux.
I'm gonna trust the Pentium has at least maxed it out with 2GB
You fucking ninja [editline]23rd July 2016[/editline] Again?!
You fucking ninja [editline]23rd July 2016[/editline] Again?!
Yes Wingless. Again.
My new build is complete. The 1080 is a godly card.
Another one.
There's plenty of people in this thread that have had consistent problems with windows 10 thinking it knows better than the user about drivers. Plenty of the blame lies on hardware manufacturers with their screwy versioning, but the fact that win 10 will override settings that the user specifically manually setup to fix a problem is inexcusable, and no amount of memes will change that.
They seem to be pushing more towards making the OS accessible to tech illiterates (by nannying the shit out of them), while at the same time throwing us power users under the bus Unfortunately we're definitely in the minority and I don't really expect them to shift their focus
Oh dear. I think the install of XP on my Thinkpad ate itself. Lets see if we can push the envelope! :D What do you think won't buttfuck the hardware limitations of this machine as much? Windows Vista or Windows 7?
Windows Thin PC, although good luck finding a version meant for mere mortals to own. Primarily meant to turn old computers into pseudo thin-clients, but is almost as capable as 7 (which it's based on) while being far more lightweight. Are some few things missing which might annoy you.

I tried windows thin back when it was in open beta. Worked pretty nicely on the shitbox laptop I installed it on I still have the .iso laying around but it runs for about 5 minutes then bluescreens with "EVAL_PERIOD_EXPIRED" or similar :v:
[t]http://i.imgur.com/r4eUBnk.png[/t] Thanks Garry.
[t]http://i.cubeupload.com/6IVVLS.png[/t] I got it to work! Now to configure it and install some shit. Anyone have recommended security settings or anything?
I think my power bank is dead, it barely charged a friends iPhone before it fully died. The indicators said it was full charge before I left so rip. Probably dead. I didn't really use the xiaomi a whole lot but it was legit and solid for over 2 years. Also my other, smaller one also died so I'm not sure if something is killing my power banks... Time to go get a new one off Amazon. Fuck waiting a month for it to arrive from China. Gotta use that 2 day shipping!
So Windows 7 disk checking killed my Windows 10 installation. Thanks nostalgia, I remembered why I hated you.
disk checking re-writes the MBR to boot into the Windows 7 installation. all you'd have to do is download something like EasyBCD and fix it, if you haven't already formatted and re-installed
[vid]https://my.mixtape.moe/lebubc.webm[/vid] nice, got my overpowered flashlight to work again

Chkdsk tries to unfuck a file system, sometimes it takes out files or kills the drive if it is on it's last legs.

Just run a startup repair from a Windows 10 bootdisc and it will fix it.
Just did the upgrade to Windows 10. It has improved a fair bit since I last used it extensively around release. I really don't dig that Microsoft allowed themselves to install Candy Crush on my computer, though. I mean, it's two clicks to remove it, but it's still a bunch of bullshit.

Good job Microsoft.
Wait my computer has candy crush somewhere? Does it sync with my fb because I am too tired to enable flash on firefox.
Wait my computer has candy crush somewhere? Does it sync with my fb because I am too tired to enable flash on firefox.
The home edition of Windows 10 comes with a UWP version of Candy Crush.
I have done it! The Prophecy has been fulfilled! On the second last Saturday of the seventh month of the 16th of the new millennium, between the long shadows of two bottles of Crystal Pepsi and a sacrifice of a small goat, the greatest KVM to rule the universe would ascend from the depth and solve Pent's computer problems once and for all! This KVM is fucking amazing. It's also $350. It supports two DVI monitors, each with a max resolution of 1920x1200 (and supports HDCP). IT supports USB peripherals (at USB 2.0 speeds) and SOUND! It will also switch your speakers and microphone. Finally I can say "fuck you and goodbye" tho this dying PC and build a proper system without worrying about support for my old shit becauuuuuuuuse I can now have a complete second machine beside it that at the push of a button gives me full hardware access to a box running Windows XP and just about every high-performance option I can slap into it.
Holy shit that's a sick KVM.
Holy shit that's a sick KVM.
My boss and I were looking for DVI KVM's for a few workstations. I distinctly remember looking at this one and thinking "hey this is a nice KVM, how much does it....nope, not happening!"
Man, UTI's suck big time. I've had so many medical worries the last couple months.
Man, UTI's suck big time. I've had so many medical worries the last couple months.
why are all my friends getting sick with nasty shit get well soon, man
I'm heading to a clinic tomorrow morning to get some meds for it. Worried it will spread to my kidneys and cause failure. Which I'm told it can.
How does that even happen?
I've read an infection can work its way up from the bladder up the ureters to the kidneys. I'm still feeling better in general. Fever is down, no more aches and chills, pain is down... down there.
Make sure you pee after having sex, it will greatly reduces your chance of getting UTI
