smaller is better imo
It's not the size that counts it's how you use it :sex101:
One thing that also kind of makes a computer "feel" more powerful is a higher resolution screen, at least for me. I guess it's because I associate low resolutions with netbooks and budget laptops.
Definitely, but this thing vaguely resembles 2000ds shitboxes running XP
Definitely, but this thing vaguely resembles 2000ds shitboxes running XP
Not necessarily a bad thing, if its in an old looking case and you get burgled I'd imagine there is half a chance of them not taking it.
smaller is better imo
There's no universal answer for the best size tbh. The form factor is completely situational.

His crazy ass storage server iirc.
His crazy ass storage server iirc.
as someone who listened to polly purchasing it's indeed crazy ass
how much storage?
ten 4TB wd reds this fall that will likely be added onto by ten 8TB wd reds
His crazy ass storage server iirc.
I was asking what the chassis was, not what it's for [editline]27th July 2016[/editline] aka what moddell
polly and were also discussing that when we're both filthy rich for various reasons we're getting 40u of these each https://www.supermicro.com/products/chassis/4u/946/sc946ed-r2kjbod.cfm

Too bad they have to be sold as complete systems. Wonder if some used ones might pop up. I'd like to get one, just for the density. [editline]27th July 2016[/editline]
SC846-R1200B with a BPN-SAS2-846EL backplane
is that the backplane with the expander? or direct connect?
with 10 of those supermicro NAS we'd each have 9000tb of storage :^)
If they had a 2.5" 7mm version you could fill it all with 4TB 850's.
If I were filthy rich I'd also add this webscale-in-a-box.
I'd just buy a datacenter. [editline]27th July 2016[/editline] Y'all think too small.
Not necessarily a bad thing, if its in an old looking case and you get burgled I'd imagine there is half a chance of them not taking it.
It's hard to do that if you have a decent monitor (or 2+), keyboards and mice on the table.

http://m.ebay.com/itm/262511546853 Wow I didn't know a 4k capable desktop was so cheap!
Installing XP on an old Dell GX270. I forgot that the original release of XP did not come with USB 2.0 drivers. Its 2.0 aware, but you need specific drivers. Generic drivers weren't added until SP1. Oh my god tranferring Service Packs at 1.1 speeds is painful. Imagine when your wifi USB adapter is limited by the cable speed.
Also, the original XP release is buggy as fuck. I had to get into safe mode, and the login screen sort of just decided to hang. I could shut down proper, but I couldn't click on my name or anything. And Microsoft really wants to drive the point home when you try to activate that XP is no longer supported. It was about one notch below trying to upsell me on buying a newer OS. Which is great an all.... But this literally only for fucking around with. All my other system run 10 or 2012 R2. I don't even have 7 anymore. :v:
take hdd out put in a pc transfer the sp1 then take it out and put it back? [editline]28th July 2016[/editline] well merge fail
My IDE to USB adapter has been really flaky lately so its faster to just let it go. It only took 20 minutes to move 300 MB.
My IDE to USB adapter has been really flaky lately so its faster to just let it go. It only took 20 minutes to move 300 MB.
You know it's fucked when an Australian can download it three times faster.
I'm going to start using pigeons to send mail and packages. In the past few weeks I've had Fedex lose two packages and return one (and now they managed to lose it after I resent it), UPS damaged two other packages that were littered with "fragile" stickers, and USPS is USPS. [editline]27th July 2016[/editline] And one of the lost packages was a replacement motherboard that MSI was sending me as part of a RMA. [editline]27th July 2016[/editline] I've also been trying to send Cpt Armadillo some Xbox wireless adapters for at least a month and every time I sent it someone fucked up. But I really do appareciate his level of patience about the whole thing. Never knew something so simple would be this difficult.
