Bahahaha, I assume the GPU is actually really shit or something.
The system uses an AMD A10. I think you can basically stop reading at that point
The system uses an AMD A10. I think you can basically stop reading at that point
I don't follow AMD GPU naming so I (and the uninformed) would probably think "RADEON R7 GRAPHICS FROM A10 APU GPU" is good because "RADEON R7" sounds cool and high end or something. In other news, for some reason, the HDMI output on my laptop outputs very flat video, regardless of which HDMI cable is being use. On the USB docks HDMI outputs, it's fine there. Must be some setting somewhere on the GPU.

And it's using system memory not dedicated graphics memory. So not only is it gonna hog a chunk of that 8GB to itself, it's gonna be bandwidth starved to hell.
smaller is better imo
I would say bigger is better but my case doesn't fit under my desk andit looks a bit silly, it's on the floor beside a shelf where it looks like would probably fit but doesn't quite.
I saw this on Sysadmin this morning and I thought to myself. Nobody is going to fucking do that. Guess I was wrong to doubt.
as i commented on that post, i'd be god damn homeless if i lived in the states, due to me just buying literally every used computer equipment out there we never get that kinda stuff over here i couldn't believe my eyes when i saw an arcade machine being sold over here (even in my city) and i got it for $200
Do you mean flat audio or do I just not know what "flat video" means
Flat video, with means the video is very dull and grey. Must be some setting somewhere in the gpu settings. Only tried it because the Dell usb 3 dock I am using seems to give me red, green and blue artifacts in the video signal, and purple streaks/lines. This only happens on the second monitor (so the very right of the two) and happens randomly. It's not the hdmi cable or the monitor, it's the dock. I'm pretty sure I've updated the drivers and everything so I don't know why this happens. It's been happening since I got the dock. Damn it Dell.

Seller seems to have a high rating on eBay and worse case, file dispute and get your money back.

Still, for the first one, that's cheap for even first gen 'Core i' hardware.
i only want a massive storage machine (and web/mysql), but after some discussion on reddit i've realised these are loud as fuck, which might not be the best idea
Yeah, 1U and 2U servers are loud as hell, especially on startup or full load. Like small jetplanes taking off. I'd have bough one if I had a dedicated and A/C controlled + sound insulated tech room/large closet.

Just put a 1070 into brother's PC It's a god damned beast. edit: wait why did I post this here? We need a Hardware&Software General chat thread or something.

You'd need to fab up some ducting though especially for the processor heatsinks, but cardboard and duct-tape (hurr) should do the trick. Personally I'd use 120/140 mm fans meant for watercooling radiators, since they can provide a higher amount of air pressure, which is suitable for the small but dense heatsinks of 1U/2U servers. Or even go full-retard and ghetto fab some brackets so you can use some of those closed-loop water-cooling kits for the processors.
Or even go full-retard and ghetto fab some brackets so you can use some of those closed-loop water-cooling kits for the processors.
My shop has CNC mills that I can use whenever. I'd have to do a bit of research on waterblock design, but once I design something up I could probably make a bunch and ship them to anyone interested for the cost of shipping. I need a project to work on, I'm going crazy with nothing to do besides school.

If I had a place near me with cheap colo I'd pick one up in a heartbeat. Like $300+drives for 8 1366 quad core Xeons and 96gb RAM? Yes please.

They're goddamn everywhere, and even starting to become cheap as dirt second hand for a functioning unit.
Anyone who got banned for that dai'd for a good cause. [editline]29th July 2016[/editline] We talk a lot about things that ain't even related to H&S though
It never specifies computer general chat, just general.
I hate the term "Free-L-C" You mean an UPDATE???
But then they're not pointing out that they're giving it to you for free! What a nice gesture!
well shit, most of the servers only support 2tb disks, that won't do at all
well shit, most of the servers only support 2tb disks, that won't do at all
Eh, 12 2tb disks still ain't bad.
