It has voice recognition, so how's the mic? How bad is it in a noisy environment/with background noise?
Have you played around with the Mirror API yet? If yes, any comments?
Is it like the video
can you actually ask it where the nearest book shop is, and it'll pop up in front of you?
There's a difference between the "our vision of the future" and "this is what it actually is" videos.
Here's the bullshit augmented reality video that is just normal camera footage with shit overlayed on a computer:

And here's the video where they show what they actually have right now:

The second video is obviously probably a bit spiced up too, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's just response times when using voice recognition etc.
Eh, that's still pretty cool
I never really cared for augmented reality, I knew that the technology just isn't there yet.
But I like Google Glass, there's a lot of potential in a HUD, with today's technology.
Augmented reality is getting there, I'd like to see 3D objects that change their lighting depending on the camera image, so it looks even more like they're actually there
Is it possible to get one now? I think these would be useful on a motorbike if it can hear me.
I just want this as a HUD. It'd be pretty sweet to have a minimap. :v:

I'm afraid not.

It's not really augmented reality as such, because the display isn't really overlaying what you're looking at if it's correctly fitted. You have to look up and you see this screen just above your line of vision.

The second video is pretty much perfectly accurate actually.
Is it like the video

Yes, pretty much. I can say "ok glass, get directions to Chipotle" and it'll give me a bunch of Chipotle stores nearby to pick from. Tap that and you get navigation to the store.

Mic is very good! I was surprised how well it handled my English accent. I talk very fast and drop syllables, but when I take care to just talk properly it has no problems understanding me. Just like every other voice recognition I've used in that respect. I used it on the noisy streets of NYC no issues.
Played around with Mirror API a bit. Easy enough to get started with, but I've not tried all the more complex parts of it yet so I'll get back to you on that.
What are you gonna be writing for it?
[editline]26th April 2013[/editline]
Also, is it really as clear as it is in the demonstration video?
I have a couple ideas and one finished app but I'm not sharing those quite yet.
Once you get it fitted properly, it's totally clear. It's like the display is translucent, so I wouldn't say it's sharp as such, but you have no problems reading the display at all. The fit is super important, before mine was adjusted (it's really easy to do, just bend the nose pad arms and the main arms, then angle the prism) I couldn't see the entire display clearly but now it's fine.
Is the resolution any good, by that I mean, do you see pixels?
Can it use youtube?
Has it got any internal storage memory, if so, how much?
How long does the battery last?
Can you watch movies on it?
Does it have face detection?
I can't see pixels, nope. The way the screen looks is hard to explain, but you just don't have any sense there's an LCD or something behind there (I have no idea what the technology behind it actually is).
No YouTube right now.
16GB of flash, 12GB available to use.
Depends on your usage, I hammered mine yesterday taking photo and video and didn't get quite a day of usage. I expect under normal usage you'd get about a day or so.
You can watch stuff that you recorded using the device back on the device.
No face detection.
What's the response time on the voice commands? Does it halt for a few seconds to process or is it near instant?
I just want this as a HUD. It'd be pretty sweet to have a minimap. :v:
Yeah, the navigation stuff is really quite good! When I walked out of the building after picking it up yesterday, my friend who came to pick it up with me and I wanted to grab lunch. So we just asked Glass for a vegan restaurant (yes, I'm vegan) and it found us a vegan friendly place a couple blocks away.
What's the response time on the voice commands? Does it halt for a few seconds to process or is it near instant?
So the voice commands are pretty much instant. If it's one where it needs to go fetch something from the internet, those can take a few seconds, but I think that's just down to the crappy connection over Bluetooth on my phone. If it's connected via WiFi, it's much quicker. I might try WiFi tethering it see if that helps.
Alright, that's not bad. I know with Siri for example it takes awhile to get results but I think it's because Siri goes out to the internet every time a request is made.
I can't wait to buy a Glass. I'll probably get a nice Android when my contract ends in August too.
Can people standing near you give commands to glass?
I imagine it'd be kinda funny to mess with people wearing them by saying 'ok glass take a picture'.
You have to do a head gesture/touch the panel IIRC, so people passing by can't put horse cocks in your periphery.

The best example of something where you could do this was skyrim with the kinect.
Your friend is walking through a town.
"FUS RO DAH"
"Very funny"
"Quicksave"
"Damn it"
But seriously, how good is it with voice commands? Like how limited are they?

How many heads turn when you're talking to Glass on the street?
What's the battery like?
Is it possible to take a photo or record a video without using voice commands? I'm thinking about if you were on a consert or something and wanted to take a photo. What would that be like?
Looks like Hexxeh made his way into a CNN article :v:

Press and hold the button on top for a second or so to start a video.

cnet =/= cnn
Just browsing currents yesterday, I saw him mentioned in at least four different articles.
How many heads turn when you're talking to Glass on the street?
Quite a few, not even just when I'm talking to it though. People just notice the device itself when I'm wearing it. I've been wearing it around Manhattan/Brooklyn for a few days and lots of rubberneckers on the subway and streets. I've had people shout across "oh hey it's Google Glass" or something like that.
Should be interesting to see what happens back in my home town where this stuff is just far less known about.
Can you browse the web on it?
And hows the camera? Like, is it equal to the ad stuff or not? Also, does it have like menus you can browse and stuff?
I hope there will a remote app for smartphones so I don't look stupid using Glass.
I hope there will a remote app for smartphones so I don't look stupid using Glass.
Isn't the entire point of the Glass to make people less dependent on their smart phone?

The idea is a timeline. Every notification you get is scrollable through. if you took a picture, it shows up, etc. swiping fast will bring you to an over view. The what it feels like video was shot on glass.
