Intel Sandy Bridge - Why you should wait one month for a new PC!
What's the proposed market for LGA2011? Is it intended for "gamers"?
See, I don't see the point in getting a very high end CPU for gaming, I'm not 100% sure, hell I'm not even 50%.
But I think if you turn down the graphics so low that your GPU would basically barely be working, you can then see how well your CPU does individually, Like I turned crysis to lowest settings, and I was getting 170fps, now I'm not sure that that's what is going to determine how fast your CPU CAN BE in games, but I'm pretty sure it is, With the right graphics card set up, you should be fine with something like a i5 or even an i3, last gen.
But if someone knows more than I do, please correct me.
But back to your question, if a 2600k is not a "Ganming" CPU, nothing is.
Would've made way more money if they'd released them at Christmas
Sandy bridge looks so fucking awesome
So 2011 is coming soon? Any more info?
Also what's the deal with hardware drm on sandy.
Thanks to Ama-zake for this info:
Intel Insider is a service that enables consumers to enjoy premium Hollywood feature films streamed to their PC in high quality 1080P high definition. Currently this service does not exist because the movie studios are concerned about protecting their content, and making sure that it cannot be stolen or used illegally. So Intel created Intel insider, an extra layer of content protection. Think of it as an armoured truck carrying the movie from the Internet to your display, it keeps the data safe from pirates, but still lets you enjoy your legally acquired movie in the best possible quality. This technology is built into the new Intel chips and will become even more important once wireless display technology like Intel’s WiDi become more popular, as it would prevent pirates from stealing movies remotely just by snooping the airwaves. WiDi enables you to wirelessly beam video to your big screen TV easily and in HD.

Oh the airwaves, it all makes sense now
Well fuck, the first Aus PC store I've seen put up SB CPUs has the 2600K priced $70 more than the 2600 :frown:
I'm seeing a few chips on eBay now, although the prices are (expectantly) gouged to hell and back.
I currently run an i5 with automatic overclock, and my personal opinion is that the i7 should gtfo.

What are you talking about?
i7s are for more cpu-intensive things, like rendering or encoding video.
[editline]6th January 2011[/editline]
Oh and by the way, 2011 is meant for servers and rendering benches, not playing games.
99 Processes HNNNNNNNNNNNG
ordering a 2600 right now :)

What? Sandy Bridge, Bulldozer, shitloads of games?
So were any of you aware that the new chipset gets rid of PCI slots on the motherboard? That means a lot of perfectly good PCI sound cards are going to go to waste now.

Don't they fucking dare..
Don't they fucking dare..
Every Sandy Bridge motherboard I've seen has PCI slots on it. I have no idea what he's talking about.
EDIT: The only one I've seen without them is the EVGA P67 SLI.
maybe he's talking about some boards in SLI disabling one 1X port
Uhh, no?

That's one hell of a good looking motherboard.
If bulldozer can't deliver the i5-2500K will be the best option for gamers.
I am so sticking with AMD, got sick of Intel's stupid stuff with the sockets.
Unfortunately AMD is also switching sockets for bulldozer.
After doing a little digging around, it looks like PCI is actually not natively supported by the chipset. However it looks like 99% of mobo manufacturers are using other methods to get PCI slots on the motherboard.

Actually just found that out by myself today, Bulldozer is AM3+ and I have an AM3 mobo.
Unfortunately, AM3 boards cannot just be BIOS-upgraded to support AM3+, it's a whole new socket.
Well, if I'm gonna upgrade in a few months, how much should I be looking to spend if I wanna replace the mobo, CPU, RAM, GPU and PSU all in one go, assuming I take one of these babies?
PSU = $70 (~650W)
Mobo = $150-200
CPU = $200-300 (2500K or 2600K)
RAM = $45-90 (4GB or 8GB)
GPU = $250-350 (6870 or GTX 570)
my guess
I wonder how much of an improvement the Macbook Pro's will get from Sandy Bridge. Shall be interesting to see in the next couple of months. I'm quite happy with my core i5 15". The only thing that annoys me about this is how my PC will have to sell for even less if I want any good chance of a sale.

Or you could just keep using your perfectly good i5 Macbook and not waste any more money.

Or Apple will base the price on it's performance, making the laptops even more expensive, or just not include it at all.
Isn't Apple switching to AMD Fusion or something?

That's pretty much guaranteed. Mac hardware has always had a steep fall off of value as new Mac hardware is released. This is usually because when new Mac hardware is released, Apple almost immediately stops supporting the older hardware to concentrate on the newer stuff. Though this hasn't been the case as much in recent years since everything migrated to x86.

If I said I'm happy with my Macbook, why would I sell it? READ

When I said PC, I meant my 2 and a bit year old gaming rig. You are quite right however. Its all about the latest and greatest for tech companies.
It seems I can't even write about my interest in performance increases for mac related hardware before people start crying, wonderful.
