No need to get that much RAM, and what is your GPU you are salvaging? The 750TX might to overkill depending on the card.
W7 uses 60-70% (not the prefetching) of my 4GB ram when idling, so yes. It's a Gigabyte GTX480.
W7 uses 60-70% (not the prefetching) of my 4GB ram when idling, so yes. It's a Gigabyte GTX480.
What? How is Windows 7 using 2.5GB of RAM out of 4 in idle Both my 4GB computers use ~1.25-1.5GB [editline]9th January 2011[/editline] As for PSU I'm assuming you'll go SLI later, and in that case it's fine
I did some rough calculating, and by converting my old planned build to sandy bridge it'll only cost ~60 euros more. Could this be correct?
Ordering my parts this week Don't have to pay VAT but shipping will be about 20 quid Really looking forward to ditching my Core 2 6600 and 9800 GT

Now it's pretty low, but usually it's up to 70%.

You should also get an SLI/CF capable mobo.
Damn, Should I get the 2500K or just the 2500? I have never OC'd before, is there any risk with these new ones?
You tell me. [img_thumb]http://f.braxupload.se/t/d128lr.png[/img_thumb] If you're talking to me, i have x64. Now it's pretty low, but usually it's up to 70%.
that is normal, i'm also on 61%.
Damn, Should I get the 2500K or just the 2500? I have never OC'd before, is there any risk with these new ones?
if you need the power or if you want the cpu to last longer than it's normal lifespan get the 2500k basically since someone managed stable 5ghz on a pretty mid-range cooler one could argue that it's pretty safe to overclock Edit: Considering that it was the 2600K overclocked to 5ghz the 2500K might not reach that, but still, my point is still somewhat relative
Maybe get a slightly better case, and the P67A-C45 motherboard you chose is out of stock, as well as the i5. And crossfire/sli is really a big issue to me as you only get a maximum of the 30% increase in performance IRRC [editline]9th January 2011[/editline] What case would recommend just keeping it under £700 with the VAT off?
So what are the best motherboards out?
You tell me. [img_thumb]http://f.braxupload.se/t/d128lr.png[/img_thumb] If you're talking to me, i have x64. I'm running Firefox, Steam, FRAPS, Xfire, Messenger, Avast and the mouse drivers (on top of W7 x64) and I still only use 1.51GB.
Damn, Should I get the 2500K or just the 2500? I have never OC'd before, is there any risk with these new ones?
Get the 2500k. It is totally safe to overclock it to 4.2GHz+, and all you have to do is change the multiplier. The days over furrowing eyebrows over voltage control, FSB, and multipliers are over. And the stock cooler is amazing, and/or the cpu magically stays cool. The extra boost from overclock is WELL worth the extra few bucks you spend. [editline]9th January 2011[/editline]
So what are the best motherboards out?
Well, in terms of price to performance, there are quite a few. The ASRock Extreme4: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157217&cm_re=p67-_-13-157-217-_-Product Also, the MSI SLI/CF capable ones are also quite good.
Motherboard memory limit? Check your manual Check bios see if it is picking up all the sticks
Also, I have 130 dollars to spend on a motherboard. What is the best at that price? Going with i5 2500K
Also, I have 130 dollars to spend on a motherboard. What is the best at that price? Going with i5 2500K
Well, for exactly $130: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130545&cm_re=p67-_-13-130-545-_-Product But for $10 more, you get crossfire/SLI: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130545&cm_re=p67-_-13-130-545-_-Product

I heard that it was a requirement for the 1155 boards, but I also heard that some manufacturers were getting out of it and putting the old BIOS in anyway.
that's pretty cheap of intel to only have the "k" designated ones the only overclockable ones
You have quite a few applications running though. I'm running Firefox, Steam, FRAPS, Xfire, Messenger, Avast and the mouse drivers (on top of W7 x64) and I still only use 1.51GB.
I don't have that much running at all, just the normal stuff you'd think.
that's pretty cheap of intel to only have the "k" designated ones the only overclockable ones
Market control. First companies release "open" stuff, then as they grow bigger, they slowly lock down their products.
Market control. First companies release "open" stuff, then as they grow bigger, they slowly lock down their products.
More like market segregation. Intel has been a large company in their market for quite a while now. This move just allows them to cater CPUs to different end users; not all consumers need the ability to overclock.
So what is the cheapest motherboard (P67) in the UK? This is the cheapest I've found so far http://www.ebuyer.com/product/252616
How hard is it to overclock your cpu? There are some bundles for about 450 pounds more that are pre-overclocked but I've found I could put it together myself with better components for the same price. So I'm just wondering if I could do it myself and get better hardware.

Do I get this pre-overclocked package. Or this package that I put together myself that has far better components.
Your set is better.
The Gigabyte boards are still using standard BIOS.
Are they the only ones? I'm really looking forward to EFI, and don't want to end up getting the old BIOS when I boot.
