Intel Sandy Bridge - Why you should wait one month for a new PC!

I may actually buy one of these. . . Just wondering what the motherboard prices will be.
Considering how Intel have been shifting prices around for the past few months (i7 930 especially) - you can almost guarantee where Sandy Bridge will fit into the line up.
I'm fine with my i5 750, it still performs optimally and (god forbid) it should start to chug and bottleneck, I can just overclock it to 4ghz stable and I'll be fine. I plan on turning this current rig to a LAN box in a few years when it's time to get a new rig.
Dammit, I just built a new rig last month. :saddowns:

Okay so why post?

I see people still don't understand basic marketing concepts.
All hail Odellus and his wisdom.
Welp I've got a i7 920 so it's not a worthwhile upgrade.
Look cool though!
Hmm, this looks interesting.
So what sort of prices are we talking here (in £) for an i5-760 equivalent Sandy Bridge CPU?
I'll be building a P67 sabertooth, i5 2500k based build in January for sure :buddy:
I'm already saving up for them.
Also what should I get, i5-2500K or i7-2600K?
My old Core 2 Duo 2,66 Ghz is cryin :(

Mine isn't. My Q6600 still demonstrates no reason for an upgrade other than to get rid of this bullshit nvidia motherboard (680i).
I kept up with the mobo releases but no one was doing an 8x/8x mATX mobo, I ended up having to snatch up one of the last P55M-UD4s in any major shop in the UK so now I'm stuck on 1156
sucks but oh well
mATX needs more love
Hey! We're mobros!

It's the same old hyperthreading argument I believe, the i7 will only be worth the money if you do lots of video editing and rendering etc.
How do these compare to the older quad cores such as the Q9550?
Haha it's launching on my birthday.
Damnit intel where are my >4 core processor
So I hear these are basically unoverclockable, have I heard right?

Yeah, I'd like to know this too, I wouldn't like to spend a shitload on a new motherboard, processor and RAM to find out the performance gained is negligible.

Anyone here know the exact date when the new SSDs are going to be released?

Read post #17, Jaehead already asked this question.

They've already posted phase out roadmaps, so yeah they're pretty on a very predictable track.

Other than the obvious improvements from things like threading what benefit would there be? Until they maximize the potential of this format there won't really be a need to expand into extra cores.
I'm not very well versed in this subject so i'm probably wrong. Just speculating sort of.
Dual cores are supposedly better for gaming, right?
If so, might pick up an i3-2100 or 2120, shit looks nice.

No, dual cores are not better for anything. They're just cheaper, that's all.

They were back in like, 2005. Now they are not.

Virtualization, I am probably just going to have to choke up the money for a 12 core opteron...
I'm not sure of this either. The last graph of OP, in the Arkham Asylum graph;
Intel Core i7 980X Extreme is leading with 200 points, but then, obviously Sandy-Bridged Intel Core i5 with just 2 points behind and then bunch of other supposedly good CPUs.
So, what does the Sandy-Bridge add to this? Is it like 2 shittier CPUs in one or what the hell :v:
And in WoW graph the Inctel Core i5 something is leading the Intel Core i7 980X Extreme. What does it mean?!

For the same price as a i7 980x you can have a good motherboard and 2 of those processors.
Come to think of it, I read somewhere that the CPUs were overclockable it was just that Intel persuaded the only companies that make the compatible mobos to severely limit power to the CPU to only allow for a ~2% increase.
I read that a while ago so correct me if I am wrong.
