corsair xms3 1600mhz is 27.99 after mir at my local fry's. should i pick it up even though I don't plan on getting a new system till the summer?
2GB sticks X 2?
2GB sticks X 2?
yea 4gb
What do those benchmarks represent?
I presume that there's no point on upgr8ing with my Phenom II x4 955?
Don't ever do that again.

Even a few months can make a fairly significant change in prices with computers.
I was told this with ddr2 when it was dirt cheap and all it did was inflate in price. I honestly don't know what to expect now though.
Should I go from 955 to 2600 build?
Are you happy with how the 955 is performing?
If yes then I would say you don't need an upgrade

If paired with a flashed 6950 at 2560x1440 runes at more than playable frame-rates, I'm happy with it.

Oh wow. I wasn't even thinking of that. I was just considering the Nehalem range.
Now I feel even worse :sigh:
General rule of thumb, if you have an i7 9xx CPU upgrading will not have enough benefits to justify the cost. You should upgrade every other generation, not every single generation.
Looking at the speeds are making me cry... people upgrading from E6600s... I'm using an E6300 for crying out loud, and everything I do is CPU limited now.
Hey, I upgraded from a Pentium 4 :v:
I still can't believe how fucking fast this new computer is. :pcgaming:

Post some actual benchmarks please.

I'm sorry, what?
Post some actual benchmarks please.
75.42 Average FPS in GTAIV benchmark at 1680x1050 with:
4x AA.
All options at highest settings.
29% CPU usage
39% System memory usage (of 8GB)
76% Video memory usage (of 1.25GB)
If you want I can run the CS:S video benchmark with no VSync and unlimited max_frames.
GTX570+2600K got P5473 3DMarks on 3DM11.
You should run Crysis benchmark, 1920x1080, all Very High, DX10, 16x AF, but no AA
just because I want to compare results
[editline]wfe[/editline]
also did you do any overclocking?

Oh my god.
[editline]16th January 2011[/editline]
SSAA? As in ENB series?
I was hitting the 60FPS cap the entire time for the Just Cause 2 jungle benchmark, with maxed everything.
(i5-2500k + GTX 570)
Edit:
278 in CS:S Benchmark,
1920x1080, maxed everything, (including AA, filtering, no vsync)
Oh my god.

Not sure, GTA doesn't specify, might be MSAA.
[editline]16th January 2011[/editline]
477.39 Average FPS in CS:S benchmark.
Also yes the turbo is OC'd to 4.2.
That's not baseclock though so it might not be reaching that.
[editline]16th January 2011[/editline]
Crysis is currently downloading, as well as Metro 2033, so we'll see how those do.
Here are complete specs by the way:
2600K with turbo at 4.2
GTX570 SC
GTX260 for PhysX (doesn't effect benchmarks)
8GB Corsair 1600MHz
ASUS P8P67 Deluxe
[editline]16th January 2011[/editline]
CS:S settings were at:
4x MSAA
16x Antrioscopic
1680x1050
Full HDR.
Multicore render enabled.
Everything highest.
Long post.

I'm going to run it at 1920x1080 on a monitor with a native res of 1680x1050 yep

GTA IV doesn't have an anti aliasing option. Are you benchmarking with TLaD or BoGT or something?
GTA IV doesn't have an anti aliasing option. Are you benchmarking with TLaD or BoGT or something?
No, I swear it has an AA option. Let me start it up and check.
[editline]17th January 2011[/editline]
Ok nevermind I misread Antrioscopic as Antialiasing, yeah it doesn't have AA. Weird.

No anti-aliasing was another bullet point on the list of GTAIV being a bad port, although with a computer that powerful you should be able to just force it and disregard how unoptimized it is.

Well you should definitely raise that to 16 not 4.
[editline]17th January 2011[/editline]
And it's anisotropic filtering.
Aww yeah they're packing my stuff at the shop
Constant 40FPS on Crysis GPU benchmark at 1680x1050, 4x AA, with all settings on Very High.
what was your minimum framerate?
what was your minimum framerate?
32fps.
If you raise voltages and have RAM that can go past ~1700 MHz I'd say you could hit 5GHz+.
Why would RAM affect CPU overclocking? Isn't Sandy Bridge overclocking about the multiplier, which does not affect the RAM?
[editline]17th January 2011[/editline]
Nah, just that it doesn't cost much more than others (others cost around 30€ less) and is (supposedly) built with sturdier/better materials, I might as well wait 5 days more (my current CPU still works so it's not a hurry).
As long as those 5 days don't become 15, then 50 and so on, then fuck that I'll just get one of those in stock.
Why not just get a P8P67 Pro or Deluxe?
