Intel Sandy Bridge - Why you should wait one month for a new PC!

Read the thread, I asked the exact same question on the first page.
Unfortunately yes, but you can pay ~$10-20 to get the K edition, which is unlocked. Anandtech has a great little section about it in here: http://www.anandtech.com/show/3871/the-sandy-bridge-preview-three-wins-in-a-row/5
I thought he meant there was an overclockable version for $20 more. rate me dumb :v:
Come to think of it, I read somewhere that the CPUs were overclockable it was just that Intel persuaded the only companies that make the compatible mobos to severely limit power to the CPU to only allow for a ~2% increase.
I read that a while ago so correct me if I am wrong.
Can you grab a source on that please? I'd like to read about it.
just look up on google, 'sandy bridge overclock'
one for example: http://www.bit-tech.net/news/hardware/2010/07/22/intel-to-limit-sandy-bridge-overclocking/1
however, as stated above there are locked and unlocked processors
I'm already saving up for them.
Also what should I get, i5-2500K or i7-2600K?
you should go on vacation, so you can wait for your descision in peace
I'm still living on a 2.0GHz Core 2 Duo and Radeon HD2400
Maybe God's trying to send me a message :smith:

Do you really need god to know that your computer is shit?
For the same price as a i7 980x you can have a good motherboard and 2 of those processors.
So it is quite something. no flaws to it or anything? more watts or whatever
Do you really need god to know that your computer is shit?
I know I could use some divine intervention in my wallet.
Yeah, I'd like to know this too, I wouldn't like to spend a shitload on a new motherboard, processor and RAM to find out the performance gained is negligible.
I actually got SLOWER video encodes going from my Pentium 4 @ 3.0GHz with HyperThreading to an E6600 Core 2 Duo @ 2.6GHz. Talk about fuckin' depressed... -_-
Anyone think that the Phenom II X4's will drop in price due to Sandy Bridge?
Anyone think that the Phenom II X4's will drop in price due to Sandy Bridge?
I'm imagining all sorts of pricing shenanigans across most CPUs.
I'm imagining all sorts of pricing shenanigans across most CPUs.
So I should wait until January to upgrade my AM3 CPU? Ok.
So what sort of prices are we talking here (in £) for an i5-760 equivalent Sandy Bridge CPU?
$190-216?
All of the i5 Sandy Bridges?
Damn.
Everyone wants my money. All these damn updates and games and hardware and gadgets and stuff.
It's hard to keep up.
The i5 2400, a $184 processor, is extremely close and sometimes beating the $1000 i7 980X Extreme in gaming. Damn! And the 2400 doesn't even have turbo enabled in these tests.
I thought this would be obvious? The i7 980X is just a hexacore 1366 slot i7. The i5 and i7 on 1156 already kept up with it in terms of gaming because games don't make use of 6 cores. That's not to say Sandy Bridge won't be impressive, but those charts only show a small upgrade.
So will it be unstable/buggy the first month.. or can I just get one in January?
So I should wait until January to upgrade my AM3 CPU? Ok.
I'm waiting too, but I've got my next build planned.
Pff, waiting for Bulldozer like all the cool kids
Well, looks like I'm going to have to revise my build. I'm definitely going to get a Sandy Bridge i7 rather than an i7 950.
God damnit Intel, you were going great for all those years on one socket, then you have to go shitting up the market with half a dozen different sockets at the same time  This reminds me of the rage from the people that got shafted on the 423 P4s and 754 AMDs.

Changing up sockets probably isn't that big of a deal for the majority of users. I imagine few people stick with a single motherboard through multiple CPUs. If they do, I question their consumer sense. A new socket can bring more features and performance into play.

But Intel sucks at transitioning well, they separate all the markets based on socket and fuck up everything; look at the lack of PCIe lanes in the midrange boards that prevent multiple PCIe-x16 boards in that section of the market. AMD does the transitions much more effectively for sockets, AM3 can go in AM2+, but not the other way.

As of right now PCIe lanes aren't bottlenecking very much.

What, really? I had a c2d at 2.0ghz and it ran tf2 at med-high on 60fps

There's this thing called a graphics card.
Does anyone know if the P67 chipset is going to have the same crossfire/SLI problems as P55 has in terms of 8x bandwidth and disabling/limiting USB3.0/SATA-6Gbps?
I already have one built with an i7, but I suppose I could replace with an i5 2500. My i7 is only 2.7 ghz.
Got 500€ set aside and ready for this (I'll need a new MoBo too).
