Shouldn't unless apt-get goes full retard and removes something X package absolutely needs and it doesn't realize it(happened ONCE to ME AND IT BROKE XORG).
I sure hope this doesn't happen; I'm planning to remove openjdk-8-jdk because it's been causing me quite a few problems. I'm going to replace it with another jdk, for the time being. It's got a lot of dependencies, that's why I'm scared of removing them.
I hope I don't ruin anything.

There's an easy fix for that though. Install Fedora.
Oh, what I was wondering is if autoremove will remove the dependencies of the package I'm trying to remove regardless of whether or not they are required by other programs. I mean, will using "autoremove" cause any problems with other programs?
It really shouldn't, but obviously it can only account for applications installed by apt or dpkg. So anything custom might get broken by autoremove.
if it removes something it shouldn't, just reinstall it
All right, thanks for the answers everyone!
For some reason I can't connect to my home's router anymore. Whenever I try to, I enter the PSK, wait a bit, and then it asks for the PSK again. I've tried it on my arch install, live lubuntu disk, and my freeBSD partition but it doesn't work on any of them. I don't think it's on my end, because if I create a hotspot on my phone with WPA2 I can connect to that just fine. My drivers should be fine because it was working just fine up until two weeks or so ago. What could be causing this?
According to my systemd journal, I get a lot of "Connection disconnected (reason 15)", and "Activation: (wifi) association took too long", and then it asks for new secrets and repeats.
I believe reason 15 might be this :
/* DHCP client failed to start */ NM_DEVICE_STATE_REASON_DHCP_START_FAILED,
Last time I played around with any distro was about 2010ish. What the hell has happened D:
Decided to install Kubuntu 15.10 on my desktop (no dual booting) on to my fake raid0 array. When I did this many years ago it was straight forward and the installer did everything needed. However the installer kept failing and so I decided to run with software raid which I couldn't get to work with efi boot so I eventually just installed it across the discs and left it be.
Now I'm having issues with networking, my WiFi connection keeps dropping and then won't see the connection after until I disconnect and reconnect the adapter. Thought I'd get round this by using my phone over USB tethering which the computer doesn't detect at all, it should be plug and play!
I never remember having all these problems all those years ago, would you guys recommend to drop back onto the LTS?

Yes. Stick with LTS if it works. That's probably the best thing to do for most people. If LTS doesn't work, that's when you should seriously consider doing some distro hopping.
Finally.....
Now to try and install nvidia drivers. Hope it's as easy as I remember. Stop lightdm, run driver, restart.

Now my USB DAC isn't working D:

USB audio can be a bit of a nuisance, but not hard to fix. All you should need to do is change your playback device. Should just be in sound settings.
Yeah my USB DAC was a bit finicky with frequent plugging in/unplugging as I moved around.
Does anyone else have terrible chrome performance or is it just me?

maybe one of your extensions is causing this, try chromium.

Working fine for me, Chromium 49.0.2623.75 with proprietary nvidia drivers.

I'm a dirty sinner.

But really, I try to use free software where possible. However I don't have autism and I need a functioning computer.

I have latest proprietary nvidia drivers. I've even tried like 4 different window managers.
maybe one of your extensions is causing this, try chromium.
It's actually slightly worse with a freshly install chromium.

It actually makes no sense.

Gentoo doesn't even call it GNU/linux SMH.
But I understand you for the NVIDIA drivers. AMD open source drivers have pretty good performance, but nouveau runs like ass for 3d anything. AMD open source drivers still have binary blobs tho, you can't win with GPUs.

Because that line refers to the kernel and GNU/ isn't part of the kernel?
do you even know what that GNU/ is or are you just using it for the sake of the meme

From Gentoo's website, on the support page on security, so not referring to the kernel
Security is a primary focus of Gentoo Linux
And from Stallman himself
Gentoo is a GNU/Linux distribution, but its developers don't recognize this; they call it "Gentoo Linux". That means they are treating me and the GNU Project disresepectfully.
But yeah I am just using it for the meme, to be honest. Personally I occasionally use GNU/Linux while writing, and never while speaking unless being a cunt to my mates.

System properties on my Windows machine doesn't even say NSA/Windows SMH.
I don't think this thread has ever had an I'd like to interject for a moment post. Not sure whether to be proud or not.
Shame

Stallman's fucking insane anyway, it's best not to take his point of view too seriously
Never go full Stallman.
Greetings felow linux users. I am making my first post from elinks on linux mint.
Welcome.
Welcome, it'll only be a matter of days until your Unix Beardâ„¢ grows.
My unix beard grew in the day after I passed my 3rd linux class. Figured I should start posting in this thread since I babysit AIX for a living now.
Well I'm an idiot, I was making a local backup in WinSCP and accidentally synchronized from an empty folder instead of to an empty folder.
Two hours lost from the last backup on my other computer! :(
Sorry, you need to Log In to post a reply to this thread.
