Broke Pacman, anyone can help? I was trying to get python-pip to work and seems like I did it perfectly wrong.
:: Proceed with installation?
[editline]17th March 2016[/editline] Just trying to pacman -Syu
Did you force anything? Did you install python-pip manually? I've had conflicting files with pacman before. What I usually do is back all those conflicting files up in a back up location and re-do the update. If it succeeds I reboot, check if everything still works and remove the backup.
You can always try to remove that one package (python-pip or whatever) and then try it again Or force update (pacman -Sf python-pip)
Or force update (pacman -Sf python-pip)
:garryspin: Alarm! :garryspin: Someone said force pacman! :garryspin: Seriously, forcing things in pacman generally tends to break things. try my backup method before trying anything silly like that.
I was suddenly able to remove pip using pacman (I couldn't before) without force even - Now I seem to be able to do stuff again. I'll keep my eye out, if I get anything again I'll try FPtje's method. Thanks guys!
Seriously, forcing things in pacman generally tends to break things.
"tends to break things" when you don't know what it wants to do, usually you can see it when it won't proceed with a few existing files but yeah, only do it if you know what you are doing
I tried to install Debian Linux, but it wouldn't install GRUB and therefore wouldn't boot, so I tried to install Ubuntu and it failed to install GRUB and wouldn't boot.
You have to run Ubiquity -b to stop it from installing the boot loader, then once it's installed go back and try it off your boot media again and install it manually.
Should I be at all concerned that now three distributions (openSUSE, Ubuntu, Debian) have failed to install a bootloader?
so recently i've installed ubuntu on my old part machine, and thank god BSOD of windows XP install made me stay on ubuntu, i like how i can stream off my games to this potato machine. also specs for this machine Core 2 Duo OC'd to 2.39GHz 4GB RAM Intel GMA(unknown)
looks like audio breaks whenever my microphone gets activated. I have only tested with one software and that is Mumble. as soon as I open up Mumble, every sound on the system will become distorted, choppy and robotic. when Mumble is closed, all sound returns to normal. any idea whats up?

That card should just werk as far as I know. Make sure you have "xserver-xorg-video-ati". You can also give the non-free drivers a try, which the debian wiki will have information on.
Yeah I tried everything and nope, it just didn't want to kick in. As for my Manjaro error. When ever it reaches locales(in the thus installer) it errors with a CalledProcess = None error. CLI installer says that it can't partition any of the disks(yet I some how installed Debian so ayy?)
Perhaps you could try partitioning beforehand with gparted, if you're up for going through the install process again. (Brotip, have a separate partition for your home directory so you can do this shit easily if needed again.) You could also try finding more details (e.g., logs, grep, etc..) and joining one of the distro IRCs. People there are pretty smart.
My quest to install Linux Mint continues: Making any attempt to begin the installation now returns the above error. I'm glad that it's so informative, otherwise I might have a hard time figuring out what the problem is
Any xmonad users here? If so, how did you get it to where youtube videos and MPV would be capable of going fullscreen? As of present, clicking the fullscreen button just seizes up my browser pretty much. [sp]btw, best WM guys totally recommend.[/sp]

Are you installing it onto a RAID array?
Aight so after 3 hours. I got Debian onto a machine that just doesn't like ISOLinux.(Had to use the DD method rather then ISO). But now I have a new issue. So I'm running Debian 8.3 with this(since manjaro fails to install) and I'm having major issues getting any ATI/AMD driver to work with it. It's a HD3450. I'm also limited to 1152x864 even though the max my monitor can go is 1600x900. Any ideas?
what do you get when you run: glxinfo | grep -i vendor
If you Google that you will find the answer, it happened to me. Are you installing it onto a RAID array?
No, but the disk I'm installing to has been used in a RAID array previously. Google actually did return one result in which someone was getting the same error attempting to install to a RAID configuration, so there might be something to that. Again, though, the disk hasn't been used in a RAID array in years. Since then it's been moved into a different machine and formatted. Ghost RAID, I guess?
Wipe it with DD and /dev/zero
Or if it was FakeRAID just recreate the array then remove the disks from the array.
Wipe it with DD and /dev/zero
Beware that it takes a while (I'm doing it now, have been for six and a half hours) [editline]18th March 2016[/editline] I was trying to wipe 2.4TiB though
Beware that it takes a while (I'm doing it now, have been for six and a half hours) [editline]18th March 2016[/editline] I was trying to wipe 2.4TiB though
Depends on your options, and hardware of course. Writing /dev/zero to /dev/sdba at just 100Mbyte/s, would take about 6 hours. Most mechanical drives can write with at least 148Mbyte/s so you'll be down to about 4 hours then. On an SSD you might get about ~500Mbyte/s (you should get more really, but that's low too), making that a bit more than an hour. This is all assuming 2.4TiB of course.

However you might just want to use
sgdisk --zap-all /dev/somedisk
instead.
How can I create a BTRFS subvolume that exists before the / subvolume?

If you want gaps in i3 for example, you have to go fetch a patched version. If you want gaps in xmonad, you just tell your config file to import it (along with gaps for outer gaps) and you scroll down to your layout hook define how much spacing you want, or even adding hotkeys to change it on the fly. And there's quite a lot of things you can import and tweak. The only main con I'd point out is that getting started with configuring is initially more confusing than i3wm, which has a very easy stock configuration file.

If you like to use something else thats up to you, but i3 is extremely easy to set up.

Which is great for me because spending hours in a config file is my kind of shit. Xmonad, i3, and openbox (muh xml) are all my favourite WMs. Also unrelated but man are we spoiled by the AUR. I'll tell a ubuntu user to go get syncplay who then has to manually fetch it and then make and install it. Whereas I just go yaourt syncplay done.
Do you have a moment to talk about our lord and savior i3wm?
I think you mean bspwm. (I was an i3 user for so long)
Shoutout to herbstluftwm for having the best name
