Dude - do NOT GET A ECS MOTHERBOARD.
I've had mine 3 days and it BSOD's every hour, and I can't even play any game without it BSODing.
Edit: I recommend a Gigabyte GA-G31M-ES2L. I'm going to buy one, and apparently it's good for gaming.
I don't know how to overclock. But I see what you are saying and if I learned how to I would try it.
PM me your msn/steam/whatever and I will gladly help you.
Go with John's build and get a 5xxx series graphics card when they come out.
Just for everyone elses reference, I can't get the deal, because my budget includes the OS.
I editied John's Build with a quad core CPU (for future proofing) and a different set of RAM (the one he suggested is out of stock). I also added a 4870 that I'm hoping to overclock a bit.

EDIT: I'm editing the OP with this build.
Get this HD: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136218&Tpk=6400aaks
Very good performance for a 7200 drive.
And please don't skimp on the PSU; get a decent quality one, such as this. It's not that CoolerMaster make bad PSUs, it's that they're not especially good.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139004&Tpk=corsair%20550
I only have 4 GB. And thoses 2 suggestions would raise the price of my build to like $850.

That is a good psu.
[editline]08:24PM[/editline]
I personally own two of those 500w coolermaster psu's and they are fantastic.
It's very important that you get a good power supply. If you can't afford it then I recommend cutting back everywhere else before the PSU.
edit: As I said CM aren't bad, they're just not the best. Corsair make some of the best around.
edit:
I only have 4 GB
I was in the process of typing something else but removed it. nvm
I'm already $80 over my budget. I'm not dissagreeing with you about the PSU's, its just I can't afford to spend annother $60.

I know they do, but that's a perfectly fine psu.
As an example you can cut out fancy stuff like the Vapor-X in favour of something like this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814131140, which ultimately isn't going to make any perceivable difference. Your call.
Power Cooler cards have the worst fail rate.
[editline]03:45PM[/editline]
After asking around on annother forum, I've come up with a new PSU and HDD, both are in the OP.
I am now $100 over budget witch is unnaceptabe.
[editline]03:52PM[/editline]
I've swapped out the CPU for an AMD 720.
[editline]04:00PM[/editline]
Changed the case to an Antec 300.
OCZ is another company that make so-so PSUs. Try to get from Corsair, Seasonic, Enermax, or PC Power and Cooling. Some of Antec's PSUs are also good.
Good choice of case.
Power Color card was just an example of how easily you can shave off $ and not harm performance in the process. Nevertheless, I think the idea that they have "the highest fail rate" is BS and you certainly shouldn't rule them out on a whim. Afterall, they're all 4870s and the brand differences are minute.
edit: The next cheapest 4870 is a Sapphire and there's certainly nothing wrong with their cards.

What are you talking about OCZ also makes pretty good psu's.

OCZ power supplies have great reviews, and FYI PC Power & Cooling is part of OCZ.
See this is another reason I stopped frequenting this section. I'm tired of always reading crap like that.
[editline]07:16PM[/editline]
I currently run a 700W GameXStream, and it's great. The internals of the unit are definitely not low quality at all, and it's always been rock solid...it's anything but a 'so-so' PSU. My main complaint is that it's not modular.

Just keep that OCZ PSU, it's perfectly fine.
Just because OCZ is part of PCP&C doesn't mean their PSUs are made by the same OEM (they aren't).
All I'm trying to say is that there are better brands out there.

Thanks, I'm aware of that. But you're still incorrect in telling people they are 'so-so' power supplies. They are high quality units, and the OP is not cheaping out on his PSU by choosing one.
so-so just mean's they're not the best. I am not saying he's cheaping out by buying one, just that I think it's worth the extra 20 bucks for one of the best, such as this ~ http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139004
OCZ is good.
But you can do better.
that's right rate me dumb for offering advice

Your posts seem to imply that anything but a Corsair or PC P&C or any other top notch brand is skimping out. If he's not cheaping by purchasing the OCZ, leave it alone and let him make that choice. OCZ power supplies are great, not just 'good'. I am sure other OCZ owners here will attest to how nice their supplies are as well.

Stop arguing, you two, and read this:

Any PSU with an OEM of SeaSonic (best) or Channel Well (second best) is worth buying. Don't bother with the rest.

Sorry that's the way you perceive it, but it's not what I meant. I just think when it comes to power supplies it's not worth settling for anything less than the best.
thanks for that jmazouri

I get that people should never skimp out on a PSU, but simply saying "Oh well this one doesn't have names x/y/z stampled on it, don't buy it" is silly. What the OP should do is go look up some trustworthy reviews for the unit(s) he may want and make his decision.
I'll admit I was unsure about purchasing an OCZ unit at first, because I've always been about the super high end brands. But after actually reading some real tests/review results I was willing to give them a try. So far I am not disappointed, aside from a slightly loud stock fan (which I replaced).

Also, after looking, your 700 PSU has a different OEM than op's. Yours is Impervio, while his is Sirtec. They make some of the cheapest PSUs.
Also, after looking, your 700 PSU has the same OEM as op's 500w. That OEM is Impervio. So, if you had good experiences with that PSU, he should have no problems with his. There's always a chance though, and I prefer some of the more expensive brands due to better customer support, but customer support is useless if nothing's wrong.
Actually I believe mine is FSP, I recall seeing Fortron Source Power/FSP stamped on the main PCB when I had it open. I think a couple reviews state that as well. Unless if they switched over to another OEM now. But either way I honestly have no complaints at all with it in terms of power delivery. Granted I don't have it super loaded down, but I do put enough of a load on it sometimes...and I also rarely shut my PC off. So it's been running for a long time now, no hiccups.

Regardless, at the same price, OP should get this:
