I was thinking of downlading 7zip it's like winrar right ? (I have no idea what it is ) and I want know if I can fuck up my pc with 7zip ?
7Zip seems to be alittle more powerful than WinRAR. But both are great. 7ZIP is perfectly safe.
its what I use
since does winrar hurt your pc [editline]04:36AM[/editline] And winrar can open a .7z so what's the point if you have one that works [editline]04:37AM[/editline] Wait I read that totally wrong
I like it a lot more than WinRAR.
It's better in every way.
It's not shareware, and it's not bloated. I like it a lot more than WinRar.
It's better in every way.
Agreed. It's free, 7z compresses better (Try compressing a map or demo from the source engine vs RAR) and RAR opens 7z too, so it's win win for everyone else who hasn't adopted it - unless you're sending files to your grandma who only has XP's built in unzip feature.
I use it, definitely recommend it.
I think it's better.
I use and prefer 7zip Though of course it can be beaten in area's. http://www.online-tech-tips.com/software-reviews/7-zip-vs-winzip-vs-winrar/
I like that WinRAR has it's option right ther on the context menu, not like "right click>7zip>extract (etc)", but that's because I'm lazy. Other than that they're pretty much the same.
Winrar have a better overall interface, while the 7zip compression algorithm is better than the rar-archive algorithm.
If you were to use Winrar, you're only paying for the glitzy user-interface. I highly recommend 7zip. It's moreso intuitive, in terms of ease of use and it is also Open Source. However, I could be coloured by my personal preferences.

7zip is so good that I would trust it with my LIFE.
7Zip is the best archiving app ever. It uses the LZMA compression algorithm.
I trust 7z, have for years now. It is a great archive program.

Winrar has a much better interface, but apart from that they are basically the same. You can install winrar for 40 days trial and then it will keep popping up and saying buy this software, just click cancel and continue happily extracting anything you please
Wait you're supposed to pay for WinRAR?
Yes, but the paid version doesn't offer anything new at all, except for the nagless startup.
Wait you're supposed to pay for WinRAR?
Yep all hail open source 7zip.
I use Winzip :frogc00l:
Why?
all I do is decompress files. It's quick and simple to navigate. [sp]and you can easily find a registration code searching on youtube[/sp] (User was banned for this post ("Warez" - birkett))
Snip that last bit. Warez/Piracy, ban worthy
Snip that last bit. Warez/Piracy, ban worthy
I'm neither agreeing or disagreeing with you, nor is implying that I do it myself or supporting piracy, but I think that's kinda like the common sense on how a lot of people tries to bypass activation and such.
It compressed Crysis Warhead to 260MB. :aaaaa:
7Zip is the best archiving app ever. It uses the LZMA compression algorithm.
Ah, ah, Aaaah. Great. Yes! Best. No! Best would have to be KGB archiver. Compressed GTA IV To 3mb, I shit you not. although it takes a few days to uncompress it IS the best.
