My computer is around 5 years old...but it works really well. I've just been adding RAM and things.
I'll go with the 5750 then, because I'm sure later down the road I'm going to want Direct x 11
By the time DirectX 11 is relevant, the 5750 is going to be extremely outdated. I wouldn't buying a DX11 card just for DX11.
Alright.. so here's what I've chosen... I'm pretty happy with it, even with the price. But I'm wondering if I can save money and just shove it all into my Dell case? It's the case of a Dell 8300. And can I use any optical drive for this new computer? Because I already have one.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.390736 You could check this out. Should be able to get that under budget. Yeah with the gpu and hard drive it is 607. It gets you a much nicer case and a nicer motherboard.
That actually saves me about 30 bucks! Nice :D You think this will last me a while?
That actually saves me about 30 bucks! Nice :D You think this will last me a while?
Yes.
I wouldn't get a Rosewill PSU, I've heard they aren't very reliable.
I wouldn't get a Rosewill PSU, I've heard they aren't very reliable.
It is fine since he isn't going to be using nearly any of its max power.
Aww damn it. It actually bumped me up another 70 bucks with Windows 7.. It's definitely worth it, looking at the specs. Good looking out! haha thanks man
Haha I'm running a version of Windows 7 right now. I have XP somewhere I think, but although since my parents are helping me pay for it, I might as well just get it now.
You might want to snip that
Got nothing on mine its 8 years old except the graphics card which is from 2004
I think my new computer is going to be amazing.
should be :) please update the thread with pics and whatnot when it arrives [editline]06:47AM[/editline] NOBODY does this in PCHS
Yeh when you get a College email you get Windows 7 for £30
Yeh when you get a College email you get Windows 7 for £30
How many dollars is that? :) And yeah, I'll definitely email pictures. I'm a little nervous because I haven't built a computer in a few years. So I'm just reading up on it now. Gotta show my dad the parts I want too (rents are divorced) so I gotta wait until he gives me some money hahaha.
i think it's actually 30$ you get it for [editline]02:35PM[/editline] It's VERY self explanitory and obvious. Just put all the stuff on the motherboard (RAM, CPU, CPU Cooler, GPU) And stick it in. Then put the PSU in, put optical drive in, plug everything it, and your done

Edit: And I just looked up the price for college kids and the $30 was only before it came out. Now it's $64.95 which is still an awesome deal.
Yeh of course
Haha noob question right here: The cpu comes with a cooler, right?
Haha noob question right here: The cpu comes with a cooler, right?
If it's retail, yes.
haha, i just dumped my 6 year old rig just recently. good on ya'. you will be happy with the i3. i heard they overclock VERY well. my experience with the 980X and its 32nm architecture is fantastic. plus, not many games even use more than 2 cores at most.
I wouldn't get a Rosewill PSU, I've heard they aren't very reliable.

It is fine since he isn't going to be using nearly any of its max power.
that and apevia. i had an apevia 650 watt psu blow out in a p4 system which was using no where near its rated output. find a good name brand psu like antec or corsair etc...
OCZ PSUs are good, so are Antec, Corsair and Cooler Master PSUs.
Yeh when you get a College email you get Windows 7 for £30
It's rubbish though. It's a vista upgrade so you need a previous version of windows to upgrade from. And it's a digital copy, not a CD copy.

Hope they do the student deals for windows 8, as I go to uni in 2012
