Every 32bit apps works on 64bit systems because the AMD64 mode (x64) is build as extension for 32bit.
Certain badly written programs won't work on 64-bit (for example, the Dell application that enables my Fn keys) as well as things like 32-bit registry cleaners, but that's about it.
So, for a gaming PC 64 bit is better than 32 bit?

for any PC
Only problem I've had is punk buster being a bunch of faggots and refusing to support 64bit operating systems.
I just got Windows 7 64 Bit and I'm impressed. A lot of my applications are 32 Bit, yet they work perfectly. I'm greatly impressed by Windows.

Some dont work?
No he means most of his programs are 32-bit and they work, while the rest would be 64-bit jeez.
I usually think of it this way, when 64Bit will become mainstream then you will have to upgrade anyway.
64-bit has been the mainstream for a while now, where have you been..?

He means the operating system
He means the operating system
That's what I mean. 64-bit windows has been everywhere for a long time, since XP. For those with 4GB+ RAM, it's a no-brainer to run 64-bit. If you have less than 4GB RAM, you might not even have a CPU that supports 64-bit extensions.
64-bit has been the mainstream for a while now, where have you been..?
Until OEM's start using x64 it's not really mainstream.
Also, most netbooks doesn't support 64-bit since they are equipped with Intel Atom CPUs, and (most of the) Atoms can't run x86-64.

I've seen plenty of OEM's use x64, where have you been?
[editline]10:58AM[/editline]
Also, don't expect many old devices to work with x64.

Hardware-near software, such as windows-drivers obviously have to be 64bit. Changed my post to "nearly every".
So, for a gaming PC 64 bit is better than 32 bit?
There is no real difference between 32bit and 64bit besides you can now natively allocate more than 4 GB ram in Windows. Anyway: If your hardware is able to run 64bit running a 32bit OS makes no sense.

Not everyone buys an OEM piece of shit, most people i know build their own.
You'll have trouble with 16 bit games from the early 90s.
Yea, not having King's Quest is killing me.

That has nothing to do with it being mainstream.

Most people buy prebuilts.

Some Atoms do:

I know, that's why I said "Most of the atoms".

I do buy prebuilts, they are cheaper,at least you can get a mid-range which you can upgrade easily and cheap later.
I bought my pre-built PC for €400 which kinda is a good deal for those specs:
AMD Phenom X3 8650 2.31 GHZ
Gigabyte M61SME-S2
3 GB Nanya DDR2 Memory(I know its shit)
NVIDIA GeForce 8500 GT 1.7 GB(duh)
Samsung SyncMaster 2033sn
IT can run pretty much every game from 2000 to 2009(if you ask, even gta iv)
The only problem is that my graphics card can't really handle all games at 1600x900(so i must play a bit lower resolution,or tweak the settings to low)
....
Mid-range PC..
I give it a 7 out of 10 :3:
Oh and my CPU is 64 bit,but I couldn't install 64 bit win 7 at that time, don't want to reformat now..
We will see later when i get 8 GB ram... but no need for 64 bit now.
/excuses for english :eng99:
