If it were real, the elevator would probably be running a lightweight linux version anyway.
Actually, probably not. Something like that needs a real-time OS, which Linux isn't. In a real-time OS, you can deterministically prove whether certain code will complete on-time. You can't have the elevator overshoot the bottom of the system just because one task hogged all the CPU time, after all.
There are a few real-time variants of Linux, like RTLinux, but most aren't. uClinux, in particular, is not. An elevator probably runs something like QNX or RMX or eCos. Maybe Windows CE, which is technically real-time, but probably not. Windows CE needs at least 1MB of memory to run, while you can run RMX in just a few kilobytes. I'd be surprised if any elevators had the need for that much RAM.
Informative as ever Gman
Dad's being an asshole once again.
I told him my iPhone randomly drops wi-fi connection while I use it and I have to manually turn off and back on the connection to get it working, and I told him it might be an issue with the router. His reply was
"You don't need to go on the internet on your phone"
Well that's the whole fucking point of a smartphone. Goddamn it.
I also control iTunes with the remote app and it's a huge annoyance to have to reset the wifi every 10 minutes.

I had that problem on my droid up untill I dissabled the power saving in the advanced wi-fi options.
Tell me, why does your iPhone do that, what if you have your phone locked and are listening to internet radio?
When someone I know says something dumb like that, I get very annoyed at them. I think I express it a little to much :v:
For example: My mom described linux as a 'Shitty free operating system' And even after explaining that it's a kernel and it isn't shitty, she still says ' I BOUGHT YOU A LAPTOP WITH WINDOWS 7 ON IT AND YOU GO AND PUT A SHITTY LINUX THING ON IT '
I deleted the OS and only had grub on it, my mom gave it to my illiterate dad ( He was downloading a 3mb program at 0bytes per second for a whole day ) To take a look at. He gave it back and had come to the conclusion: There was no operating system on it. No shit.
Eventually I give in and install windows 7, then uninstall it minutes later. Eventually I went fuck it because I couldn't get some things working in wine and installed windows.
I have a fully-illiterate family.

As long as I don't break hardware I can do whatever I want with my computers.
My dad's great when it comes to stuff like that, he usualy asks what I'm up to and lets me get on with it.
Got my new keyboard... the right shift and backspace are the same size as a normal key. WHY.
I'm happy my parents are fairly computer literate.
But my Brother on the other hand.
Got my new keyboard... the right shift and backspace are the same size as a normal key. WHY.
Why did you get that keyboard?
Got my new keyboard... the right shift and backspace are the same size as a normal key. WHY.
My keyboard is apparently a retard edition one.
Logitech apparently figured people who buy 10€ keyboards don't know which keys are "Shift" or "Backspace" or "Enter" unless you literally type it on them.
Got my new keyboard... the right shift and backspace are the same size as a normal key. WHY.
Did you have to buy it to notice that? :v:

It really wasnt a turnoff. Now that i have been typing on it for a whole 20 minutes my fingers are adjusting to the new layout... i guess i am used to my old hunky keyboard from 2000

That is why I asked.
*goes on FP in IE6*
My eyes. THEY BUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUURN!
Wait, does this mean we are Scoot and Flak chat edition forever?
I tried viewing FP in Windows NT4.0's Internet Explorer (IE4 I think?). After closing about 20 script error messages it performed an illegal operation and closed.
I tried it again and discovered that the browser works fine if you move the illegal operation message out of the way. :v:
If Bochs had wireless drivers for my phone I'd try browsing FP on Windows 95 just for the hell of it to see how bad it is.

If only the thread name was changed to OIFY MOOOOD during that whole phase.

What's this about user agents?
What's this about user agents?
[editline]28th July 2011[/editline]
oh okay it didn't work
[editline]28th July 2011[/editline]
wow I think I might have to jump into a fire seeing as I can't get a Chrome extension to work
What's that?
[editline]28th July 2011[/editline]
apparently setting user agent in the web console won't effect the post.
Faking the user agent on my phone says I'm running whatever browser I'm faking but it days I'm using a Mac.
I WANTED PEOPLE TO THINK I HAD FIREFOX ON THIS DAMMIT :saddowns:
I don't feel like installing the user-agent spoofer on this Firefox.

After approaching my dad about some upgrades to my Macbook Pro, he agreed on the spot. Within a week or so I'll be upgrading my RAM from 4GB to 8GB and replacing my optical drive with a SATAIII SSD, most likely the Crucial M4.
This is the same man who refused for a year to allow me to build a ~$1200 computer and cover half of the cost, instead buying me my ~$1900 Macbook Pro.
I hope netscape on linux will work.
[editline]28th July 2011[/editline]
Cursed! No netscape icon.
Let's see
Nope, doesn't work
