steam is pretty shitty. I usually don't have it running
steam is pretty shitty. I usually don't have it running
Yeah, but it has more purposes than just being "Spamware that has to connect to the gay ass server to do jack shit".
Not to mention updating is usually a good thing.
not that I wouldn't want to be someone like him who actually knows how to REALLY use a fucking computer
steam is pretty shitty. I usually don't have it running
Hm? Not really. It's slower and uses more memory than it has any right to, but it's not so bad that I don't have it running.
Only one of my friends does not have a phone.
And he is the one who most people would call.
He lost his in spring, in dark while going to a spot to wait for friends. It flew out of his pocket and he hasn't found it yet.
And I am here, starting to gather money next month for a new phone.
Right now I have some Nokia phone, 2670. Have had a 5200 and some older ones.
5200 has an expanding battery and I do not want it to explode. And the case is a bit broken so I do not have a microphone on it.

Not really. Right now, it's using 11MB of memory. That's well below stuff like Explorer (14MB, no windows open), DWM (31MB), or Firefox (500MB with three tabs open, plus 67MB from "Plugin Container for Firefox"). It's a bit more than other background processes, like Dropbox or the OpenOffice preloader (both 5.5MB), but it also starts up a lot faster than them.

I bet he uses GFWL, and likes it.
86mb is being used by Steam, only thing I have open is the Library that I always have open on my other monitor :frogbon:
Skype on the other hand, using 121mb doing absolutely nothing is kinda sucky. I don't know why I haven't killed it yet, I usually do when I boot...

good lord, how dare you even think such a thing

Dropbox takes around 50 MB for me. Steam 100 MB, below a bunch of services and Firefox.
Not that I really care, so long as I don't notice it (which I don't).

Also, both my father and my (younger) brother claim that this Pringles can speaker shit actually produces good quality sound.
Yeah, now that I have a Steam window open, it does seem to be using a lot of memory. It's up to 111MB, although I did just buy a game, so it might be doing stuff with that.
Still, 100MB is nothing for most gamers. Even the most pathetic gaming rig will have 2GB of RAM, which means Steam will use only 5%. For the better ones, with 6GB, you're looking at ~1% RAM usage. So yeah, it's not a big deal, unless you're trying to see if your 486 can run Crysis.

Oh god GFWL...
I reinstalled EFCL a few days ago, every time I quit the game GFWL stays there for a while then it goes "derp" and the memory usage builds up until it just crashes :v:
Steam is using 9 MB for me... If I open the window, it jumps to 100 MB

resource usage and impact on performance are rarely related.

This is why I installed xliveless.dll on my GTA, I can do without the multiplayer.
Besides, Microsoft just ditched my old GFWL account, so I have to make a new one which I seriously can't be arsed with.

jesus, i'll never understand how people get readings like that in firefox. I'm using the most recent nightly build, with Tester Tools, Adblock Plus, FireGestures, Stylish, Greasemonkey and some youtube whatsit installed. Firefox.exe uses around 96k and plugin-container uses 50k
call the cops i don't give a fuck

The three tabs were a rather image-and-video-heavy one (LMAO pics), a very long one (the full text to "At the Mountains of Madness"), and of course CIPWTTKT&GC. And it has been running for a long time, so any memory leaks would've built up.
The 200+ RSS feeds might have something to do with it, too.
My Firefox is using 343k with 5 FP tabs open, plugin container is only using 11k.
I've had Firefox use a gig before with only one tab open. :v:
I had firefox up to 3 GB once
i saw one screenshot where firefox was using nearly 10gb of memory
how
imagine
using 10 GB of swap
