Besides, you need to simulate a surface to create reflections. (See that water? Can't really be real-time. Not with point clouds.) Now, they might have incorporated a goddamn raytracer in their engine but again, that would make it unsustainable in real-time. They probably don't even use point data for that water surface because it would be fucking stupid.
(that's using LZMA compression, by the way, same thing 7Zip uses). Get the air a-flowin' inside your case and you should be just fine. [editline]2nd August 2011[/editline] That is, if you're not doing anything too intensive, at least.
you guys are bad at maths they obviously aren't storing every single point like that, they're reusing things, like you do with models, most of the atoms are probably dirt, anyways, which is probably just one large-ish chunk that's sampled from and blended at certain points or something, like how modular buildings work in UE3
Hang on, is this that old "point cloud" system that got majorly hyped last year? Yeah, I called bullshit on it then and I'm calling bullshit on it now. ANY company claiming to have "unlimited" power is full of crap and lying. It's literally impossible. Now, they could potentially figure out an efficient search algorithm and a better rendering system. That will STILL never give you "unlimited" power - just more efficient. If they were advertising even just as "massive breakthrough in point-cloud rendering technology", they might be believable. If they produced actual code, or did a real-time demo, I might be more inclined to believe them. But if all they've got to show YET AGAIN is more stuff that could EASILY be pre-rendered, they're a scam. Undoubtedly. They're a scam. They're producing nice, shiny, attention-grabbing trailers and demos, but have yet to publish any sort of info on their algorithm, and they have yet to produce a real-time demonstration. They're just taking investor money, buying whores and cocaine, and shitting out another pre-rendered trailer every time the whores-and-cocaine fund gets low.
Their SDK is going to be released "In a few months", so we'll see then.

how come everyone i know who has an apple product has broken the screen is this a curse or something?
how come everyone i know who has an apple product has broken the screen is this a curse or something?
they make the screens out of sugar glass and capacitive touch screens [editline]1st August 2011[/editline] correct me if that's the wrong term
sugar glass
Instead of gorilla glass you mean?
Instead of gorilla glass you mean?
what
Gorilla glass is used on a lot of smart phones because of it's superior scratch- and crack resistance. http://gizmodo.com/5443146/gorilla-glass-hands-on-unbreakable [editline]2nd August 2011[/editline] I have gorilla glass on my phone and have yet to get a scratch :allears:

I figured Carmack would have an opinion on that. Personally I don't believe anything relating to "massive breakthroughs" in gamedev unless a) I can play it or b) Carmack says so. He's just that awesome. As is id in general.

It's just a realistic proof of concept at the moment, but I can expect the system to be implemented in the future.
It's likely to be a server software vulnerability. [editline]2nd August 2011[/editline]
It's just a realistic proof of concept at the moment, but I can expect the system to be implemented in the future.
That's basically what Carmack's (and thus quite a lot of devs') opinion is right now And mine, although I am a bit doubtful about it.
how come everyone i know who has an apple product has broken the screen is this a curse or something?
Because the people you know are irresponsible or cursed? The only person I know who broke their screen on an iPod was an idiot who didn't take care of their stuff. Hell, I had a guy in my class with a first generation Nano (Love those things, they ran Rockbox really well) who was rock climbing and had his iPod Nano fall out of his pocket and bounce off a bunch of rocks. It looked like hell, though the screen was intact and it worked fine.

At school there was a kid who broke his fourth gen touch a few weeks after he bought it. You know what he did to it after? he burnt it, complete waste. whereas I bought mine last November and all it has for damage is the shiny silver back is scratched up.
