Fuck Vista and fuck 32-bit.
If you for some reason have compability problems, run Windows 7 32-bit in a VM.
But I still haven't found any compability problems with 64-bit operating systems and I've been running 64 since Vista release.
To be honest I feel really stupid.
I semi-recently learned that because my laptop has a dual core 32 bit processor, it can run a 64 bit OS.
I honestly had no idea it actually worked that way. Count me as content.
Err, if you have a dual-core 32-bit processor, you can't run a 64-bit OS, because it's a 32-bit processor.

It doesn't work that way.
But there's only been 21 dual-core processors that were 32-bit only, and the last one was released in 2007.
You're probably just not getting how 16/32/64-bit processors work. All processors boot up in, and can run in, 16-bit mode (for compatibility reasons). Processors can then switch to 32-bit mode, if that's supported (anything after 1984 can do this). From there, processors can switch into 64-bit mode, if supported (although nowadays, the only processors that can't are a few ultra-low power Atoms or Core 1 processors).
So a processor capable of 64-bit operation can still work in 32-bit mode, and in fact has to if it only has a 32-bit OS.
For the record, the only dual-core x86-32 processors were 3 Core-based Xeons (codename: Sossaman), three Core-based Pentium Dual-Core, three LV Core Duo processors, two ULV Core Duo processors, and the T2xxx Core Duo processors. So basically all the Core Duo (not Core 2 Duo) processors and derivatives.
Also, for the record, this stuff may not apply to non-x86 processors. I have no idea if SPARC64 processors are backwards-compatible with earlier SPARC processors, or whether 64-bit PowerPC processors boot up in 32-bit mode.

I probably misheard what he said then.
Well, in any case I've installed Windows 7 on my laptop and everything is working great.
Thank you for clearing that up!
Simply tell him:
Fuck off.
In other news, I had this really fucking weird dream last night:
Robin Williams was in hurricane ravaged new orleans (which I have no clue what they look like) while he noticed a plane in the water.
He swam over to it, opened the bottom of it (wtf) and his family was inside, drowning. So he pulled them out (his kids barely fit over his shoulder but were at least 8 or 9 wtf).
They swam to the coast to live a "New Life" and they turned around and there was a majestic pink hot air balloon floating in the air. They tied it to the dock eventually and wandered into a house that on the outside was ravaged to shit.
Cut to a new shot, where they're all wearing perfect clothes in a perfect house where Robin's kid is drawing plans for an airship/hot air balloon modification so they can all go up and Robin can "Divide the land to call their own" (stop me if this sounds like a movie with Robin Williams or whatever). They then start to go up in a hot air balloon with robin holding on to a tiny string with "an inch or so room" (what he said) I then swapped to another dream saying goodbye to a old friend from Primary/Elementary School that I hadn't talked to for years who's moving to Arizona soon... What the fuck is with my brain?
I dreamt that it was a regular school day, but when I got home, I noticed the Mona Lisa on my bedroom wall.
Then I was like "Wait a second.. this is a dream. Fuck this shit"
And then I woke up.
Pff, I dreamt I was swimming underwater with infinite air in my lungs last night and I was somehow immune to the pressure of the water.
Shit was dope.
I got a new laptop

and it has a Radeon 6490M (nothing spectacular, but I don't plan on gaming on it anyway. Even then the most demanding game I play regularly is Fallout 3) and advertises a 10 hour battery life.

Change computer name into something that doesn't suck.
I use Gibson. (Don't hack it)

This is a really dumb move of HP
This is what i would have to do if my fan needed a thorough clean.

Name the programs/things in the second last panel of the latest unfunny CAD comic.
I spot htop on the top middle monitor.

Checked, you're right, htop has bars representing stuff at the top, top does not.
Those are not bars in the comic.

The one thing I love about my recently aquired free sony vaio. the Access to just about ANYTHING is 8 screws at the most away.

also htop is typically recognized in color, while top's default config leaves it black and white.
Hmm, I can't remember seeing htop in colour.. Oh well.
Then again, I haven't used it in a while.

I'm afraid this laptop may be on it's last legs though. Even after cleaning the fan to the best of my abilities, I'm idling at 80-90 Celsius.
Replace the thermal compound?
Replace the thermal compound?
Hasn't crossed my mind. I should definitely give that a shot.
Don't know if anyone remembers, a few months ago I posted a heart wrenching story of me, my processor and a heatsink, with a side story involving my hard drive breaking.
Well the hard drive breaking has come back to bite me on the ass. I snapped the little plastic thing that SATA cables clip into, and from that day on have had a hastily made ghetto rig to hold the cable in place, it worked really well with that brown parcel tape shit, never came out once.
I cleaned my CPU heatsink today (about 3mm of dust in there I think), and thought I'd quickly move some cables around. The ghetto rigging on the SATA cable came off as I was moving it about, "no problem" I thought, "I'll just get some tape!". We didn't have any. The cable is currently held in with a mixture of velcro backing, electrical tape and clear tape, and it isn't doing well. I'm getting the occasional blue screen as the drive disconnects, the "Disk read error" every so often on boot as the cable isn't quite aligned perfectly and it's just really annoying me by this point.
I can't buy a new HDD as of now, so I need a cheap alternative, I could attempt to solder the pins to the pins on the cable, or try replacing the entire plastic bit (but I'd need to scum a HDD off something else). How hard would soldering that bastard be?
Speaking of HP and thermal paste

What thermal paste.
It's all just cement on the edges.
Going to gamescom tomorrow (Well today actually its 00:10)
Find out wallet is nowhere to be found. Including my ID. That either means i can only have acces to games for age 12 and below, or find some way of identicating myself so i can play 16+ games atleast :C
