The other guy was actually making a valid point with "what if he doesn't have a 30" monitor, most people don't" that's what I'm saying, and you tried to make his claim sound ridiculous. That's not "toasting" someone, that's being a bit ass.
How the fuck? I've never had any money stored on my Paypal account, did you do that?
I don't know all I know is I'm pissed.
But you don't even know whether he has got a monitor to match up with those cards goddammit. That's an obvious question, that should be asked. You can't come up with example of "he's gonna use the extra performance when he's running 3 30" he of course have already", when you're not even fucking sure about it. When you're helping people, you have to realise you're not just writing some shit on an internet forum, you're actually making people spend (sometimes) hard-eared money, and you shouldn't be careless with that money.
We're looking at a 5% increase in his budget for the 3gb cards, that should be really all I need to say.
I just realized I have the same amount of games on Steam now as the standard EU emergency phone number (112).
I went from 82 to 91 games during the summer sale :v:
I went from 95 to 100.
I went from pathetic amount to depressing amount. It was so bad, I started a new steam account to spread the love.
6 to 20 ... glad i bought shit when i did.
I haven't even tried half of these games, I'm a fucking dumbass. I have 2 S.T.A.L.K.E.R games and I haven't even fucking started them yet.
We're looking at a 5% increase in his budget for the 3gb cards, that should be really all I need to say.
Now we're talking about more than VRAM, we're talking whether he wasted money buying those cards, or not.
I have no idea what he's running.
This is what I'm arguing about. You're going around pulling "you'll need this, and this, and look at this benchmark showing this", when you're not even sure about his resolution. You say 5% increase in budget, but if he wants to utilize those cards and the extra VRAM, we're talking atleast 500$ extra. I'm pretty much now talking about how you bashed a person for a total valid concern, and now you're like "no big deal" when I'm pointing out something that is an obvious flaw in your recommendations. You're giving him advise based on that he's running a huge resolution. Of course, he might have a 30" monitor or two, but I doubt it very much. To me, there's pretty much two scenarios: He is running a huge resolution: Win! You were right, he's now a happy man! He is not, sadly, running a huge resolution: You gave bad advice, and he'll now either run every game at some ludicrously high uneeded FPS on (maybe) 1680x1050, or he'll go out and buy 500$ worth of monitors. In one of them, perfect, cool, you're looking at 5% increase of the original budget. In the other, you're either looking at a 25% increase in overall budget, or something that's simply plain dumb and unneeded. Now look at these scenarios: You ask him what resolution his monitor is running: He says "Very fucking high super nice resolution": you recommend him the 3GB GTX 580s He says "I'm sadly running a pretty mainstream resolution": You recommend him crossfire 6970 (or the SLI GTX 570) and a 30" monitor. There's a pretty big risk that you fucked up bigtime, and I don't know why you won't aknowledge that.

Had a shit PC for a long time, Mostly console games before that
I went from 199 games to 227 :v:
So I've been getting more and more into Linux ever since I found a pc beside a dumpster that I could use as a server. Today I discovered Samba and after spending 5 mins reading on how to set it up, I decided to test it by putting some of my music on there. As I was listening away it dawned on me that the music I was listening to was actually being streamed from a server in my closet that I setup. I elaborated and had a mini wow moment. The music I was enjoying so was being stored on a metal coated glass disk spinning 40 full revolutions in the time it takes me to blink. It's being read and sent through an ethernet cable through two switches to my pc where it is converted to an analog signal and sent to the amplifier in my subwoofer that distributes it to my speakers that all reverberate and pass the signal as vibrations through the air into my eardrums where it is once again converted to electric signals. I elaborated further and realized that it started as vibrations by the musicians making it and has been converted from analog to digital back to analog, ending where it began. The mind-blowing part was that the song I was listening to when I thought this was Dream Theater's Octavarium.
I went from 50 games to... 50 Own/Don't want everything on sale lol. I still haven't played my STALKER game that I got from the THQ pack over 1 year and a half ago.
I've heard way too many stories of PayPal beeing greedy fucks and going all "woops your money isn't yours anymore lol" to actually use PayPal
I've heard way too many stories of...you know the rest...to not want to break into their corporate office, steal all their money then give most of it to a lot of people. Robin Hood style.
Reposting cause I caught the tail-end of the last page. So I've been getting more and more into Linux ever since I found a pc beside a dumpster that I could use as a server.

Even worse is that I've got at least 30 games I haven't played yet on Steam, every time I see a Steam sale with a decent game i just HAVE to buy it.
Even worse is that I've got at least 30 games I haven't played yet on Steam, every time I see a Steam sale with a decent game i just HAVE to buy it.
I've got 38 games I've never played in my steam list. [editline]7th July 2011[/editline] My worst offense is buying the entire sands of time trilogy and playing about 14 minutes of the first one. I don't doubt they're good games but I wasn't in the mood that day and I've never been able to pick them up again since.
