Xbox support finally replied on my email asking for a new power brick
"We'd like to help you out with this problem. But you need to call us via phone to order replacement parts"
Well shit, I waited a week and then I could just have called them to begin with?
You guys ever heard of Moodle?
It's like an open source forum software thing (Which is pretty crap)
Part of todays lesson is, we had to go onto the school's one and talk about boat people, while our sick teacher talked back to us about it
This went about as well as you expected
I'm the guy with the Pi avatar
My school uses Moodle to give us homework. The forum part of it is never used, though.
One of my film history courses is done in a on-campus movie theatre. Leather seats, lean back, Wi-Fi, giant 2K screen, decent constructed walls cut out all noise. It's lovely.
But it's a 3 hour class and I feel like I want to kill myself.
just enrolled in pc support 2, checked the course work
the entire first week is "Virtual Machines".
OH BOY HERE WE GO
[editline]29th August 2011[/editline]
So anyway, we're sitting here in our PC Support class (we meaning Shooter and I), and we have a kid behind us who, apparently, is a real MAC WIZ! He's, so far, explained to us that 64-bit is a type of memory, Cydia is a hacking tool, and that it's probably possible to jailbreak a computer. This is going to be less than fun with all the freshmen in here :(
I'm just waiting for the influx of Mactard content once college starts...

I'm kinda hoping for some content from the OS class. Maybe someone will fuck up while installing Ubuntu
(Looking at some of the people in my class, I can easily see that happen)

Hit the "MAC WIZ" with something hard, please.
A stop sign will suffice.

Shooter's on it.

My school uses this "Frog" system to deliver homework.
However my school login ends in a number (1, there being an older student with the same surname.) and because of that I can't login at all - no homework for me, ever.
I'm thinking about fixin' people's computer's for money, since high school is a fair bit more expensive than I would like. I'm a bit wary about to what extent I should do fixes, as I wouldn't want to get into anything taking too much time, and with a high (relatively speaking) risk of damaging something (I would like to not use money on new shit that really could have been avoided). I'm thinking that changing RAM and HDDs might be the upper limit for what I want to do, as most computers will probably be laptops. Sounds like a plan?
Shooter's on it.
turns out he just sat there and watched it laughed a few times, sorry if you were expecting HURR DURR Y U KILL MAC OMG U SUKK

For those of you who don't read my Twitter (I imagine that's all of you), I just survived a surprisingly bad hurricane. I'm fine, nothing's broken, but that did knock out my power. While I have a generator, priority goes to things like the water pump and fridge (can't have the food go bad). I charge my laptop up occasionally, but this is the first time I've been able to access the Internet since late Saturday (yay school wifi).
So yeah, just read through 200+ posts in this thread and caught up on /., Kotaku and Cracked. I'm about to brave the 1K+ posts of the LMAO Pics thread I missed, then check yesterday's and today's webcomics.
Later on, someone remind me to tell you how I got an external case temperature over 50C.

I had to put my old Geforce 4 MMX into her computer so it could display the right resolution for her monitor :saddowns:

Why limit yourself?
Why limit yourself?
Most of the things that I'll be doing will be on laptops, and RAM and HDDs are for the most part fairly easy accessible. I'd rather do alot of small odd jobs like installing Windows, remove vira, unfuck whatever and change RAM and HDD. Changing larger, more normally expensive things, includes a larger risk because of the fact that they're more expensive, and easier to fuck-up (though I don't count on doing that), it might not pay off in the end, really.
...remove vira...
The plural for 'virus' is not vira or virii, it's 'viruses'.
Virusii
Welcome back Gman

ok but on a desktop, would you not replace the motherboard or whatever? or not sell a custom built PC?

I read conflicting things about it, but I guess I'll just stick with viruses, then.

I'm planning on doing such as well, but the place is very much dominated by laptops.

Apparently, in latin, virus is uncountable and therefore has no plural.
but we're not speaking latin
Apparently, in latin, virus is uncountable and therefore has no plural.
I will ask my latin teacher tomorrow if I can remember
Lets just call every kind of virus Bat of Doom. Sounds better

Do ask, I'm relying on wiktionary here
Apparently, in latin, virus is uncountable and therefore has no plural.
The word 'virus' comes from latin, but that doesn't mean that the same rules apply in english.

Yeah but the point was the plural can't be "virii" because that would only happen with a word derived from latin because in English words don't work from that or something
