I never have the same amount of screws as when I started with laptop repairs.
Am i the only one who almost never has screws left over after rebuilding a laptop?
am I the only one who hates laptop repair enough that I don't fix any laptop with hardware issues?
hey guys i found an old ass p3 500 mhz lappertop that still works, what should i do with it
make love to it
It might make more sense if I mention that the only time I can remember an attempt to repair a laptop, my dad and I ruined it and we just shut the case, salvaged the hard drives, and threw it out.
Ughhh all that talk about Laptops reminds me I have to take my dad's netbook apart to replace the screen...
At least you're aware of the status of the netbook. My laptop's been in for warranty repair/replacement for like 2 weeks now, or maybe 3.
OK, I'm back for good now. Power is fully restored. So I guess it's story time. I decided to bring my laptop in to school today, mainly so I could charge it there and use their internet. Get to class, find an outlet, and plug it in without taking it out of the bag. I wasn't going to use it - it was an Illustrator class, and my laptop doesn't have Illustrator installed. So, five hours later, I'm getting ready to leave, and I start packing the laptop charger up. I notice the bag is about a million degrees. Crap. I pull the laptop out, and sure enough, it had been running the whole time. I think it's because I've been using Scheduled Tasks as an alarm clock. It wasn't plugged in at 6:30, so it didn't wake to wake me up with heavy metal, but I guess I had it set to "resume this task when plugged in". Oops? Anyways, the screen was blank, and the computer was completely unresponsive. The thermal shutdown was probably reached a few hours before - the laptop bag fits it perfectly, so the vents were completely blocked. For five hours. I'm surprised it didn't completely shut down the machine. I think the only reason it didn't fry completely was because it was on "power saver" mode - underclocked to 1.13gHz, wireless off, and integrated graphics only. So, I power it down hard, give it a minute or so to vent before I have to pack it back into the still-warm bag. I swear, the case temps - the actual temperature of the case, not the temperature of the air inside - must've been over 50C, maybe as high as 60C. I don't want to think too much about how hot the internal temps were. For a few hours afterward, my CPU and GPU temps were what SpeedFan categorized as "way too hot" - I think my GPU was at 60C just running Firefox, because of all the residual heat. Which honestly isn't too bad - it's a 9600, regularly hits 80 while gaming.
I forgot a netbook running in my backpack once. Pros: - It managed to finish off a couple of torrents thanks to the school's wireless connection. Cons: - Shit was hot as fuck.
*laptop shenanigans*
This is totally off topic, but do you live on Riverway RD?
Ooooh that reminds me of something The teacher was telling us about the college's Wi-fi connection, when he said "no P2P downloads" a uTorrent window popped up on his laptop telling him his pirated movie was done downloading :v:
So I'm taking 3D computer animation at my school, the teacher is having us do 2d drawings for the first semester and he uses IE. :suicide:
My friend had somehow cracked his laptop display. He got it in for repairs in the spring last year, and he still haven't gotten it back. It's still there because it's unclear how it got cracked. Then he also got his replacement laptop (for use while the other's in for repairs) stolen. He left it in his bicycle basket and went inside for a Gym card or so for like 2 minutes. Then he came back out and it was stolen. Now they are trying to clear things up about it. And he got another laptop to use, but must leave it in school (although he takes it with him when going to his father, because of no computer there). Summary: Laptop screen broken in spring 2010. Sent for repairs. Given a replacement. Replacement stolen. Given another replacement. Still have the latest one but still don't know anything about the status of the first one. I feel sorry for him since he still haven't got back his original laptop that we're supposed to graduate with. At least he have one that works now. Laptops are HP 6530b with Vista Business. Newest one is Windows 7 Business. Shy must it be such a clusterfuck to get a screen replaced? In if just had been replaced, none of the other stuff would have happened!
I think it costs almost as much as another laptop just to replace a screen.
only if you get a laptop from a stupid company that charges for stupid shit
The computer teacher runs a pirated version of XP on his tower, guess where it came from.:v:
The Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows 7 virtual machines we use for a certain class are activated through less-than-legal means. The teacher thinks it's complete bullshit that Microsoft doesn't provide free licenses for educational purposes, and I tend to agree with him on that.
The computer teacher runs a pirated version of XP on his tower, guess where it came from.:v:
Even though our college has MSDNAA, there's this one teacher who refuses to activate his copy, he's stuck on the Windows Classic theme (and still keeps the W7 superbar so it looks even uglier) :v: The tech girl still refuses to activate my account though, bitch I want my W7 key :argh: Also is there a way to check the songs on Spotify so I don't waste my time inventing witty fake details to crate an account just so I can discover there's absolutely no artists I like on there, Rdio has everything I could think of except King Crimson...
My great uncle, who gave me his older 24" White iMac when he upgraded, said he has a broken iBook that I could have. I wonder if I can fix it cheaply?

You could always ask someone with an acc to check I found some Dr Who fan songs on there so there is some obscure stuff on there. Actually, I could check a few of them for you, Post something i can look up
Have any of you guys seen the newest Fast and the Furious movie? When they pulled a "tracking device" out of one of the cars, it was literally a stick of laptop RAM with wires duct taped on I wonder what their prop budget was :v:

Working with Microsoft Access in school. It's like cutting wood with a watermelon.
