Is that the price to enter the mac cult? I never paid it...
The cult of Mac enterance fee is covered by the 30% markup on their hardware.
Due to a near lethal dose of boredom I decided to setup a simple Wi-fi honeypot. It consists of a D-Link wifi router broadcasting the default SSID without any encryption and an old thinkpad running Wireshark. The thinkpad is connected through ethernet and is listening for any broadcasts appearing when (more like if) a client attempts to connect to the network. I have not assigned any IP for the thinkpad to make sure it is as invisible as possible.
The pot have been running for a few hours now and I have already caught two devices. Do you have any ideas to make this more interesting? Maybe setup a (VERY) limited Internet connection to sniff on people logging into facebook or what ever?

I'd rather get another screen for my stationary, Kinda the point with a laptop (mine anyway) is that it's small and portable. With this i can play VVVVVV on the bus, Doing that with dual screens is not as practical :v:

The two screens rotate out as far as I can see, so it would be the size of a regular laptop (albeit a little heavier).
-snip- forgot about that news story

Does owning an Apple product instantly make you very defensive?
If it does I must be immune to it just like most other horrible diseases and illnesses that I'm immune to.
I question what Apple is doing all the time. I'm not pleased with their rampant abuse of the patent system in the least bit.
Okay hello people, posting here due to you being my last hope for an answer.
Right.
I have a Zotac GTX 460 se
and I haven't been dumb and bought the se version for some dumb reason. Because wait.
The Zotac Se version is in some aspects, better than the normal nvidia version.
Graphics clock for me: 680mhz
Nvidia GTX 460's: 675Mhz
Processor clock for me: 1360Mhz
Nvidia's: 1350Mhz
So as you can see, there isn't that much difference between them, although I do for some reason come out on top, however.
The memory clock for me, is 1700mhz
and Nvidia's is 1800mhz.
So my question is, which is better? Because for some reason Zotac decides that instead of making their SE version worse than the normal version, like nvidia has done, they've decided to make it worse in one aspect.
So Nvidia GTX 460 or Zotac GTX 460 SE?
The reason I am asking is because I am trying to achieve this, with SLI'ing two Zotac GTX 460 SEs
http://media.bestofmicro.com/D/2/255782/original/image024.png
but the person who did those tests used the normal nvidia version, so I dunno if I'll get the same results as him. (My other specs are similar enough)
Sorry if that was worded badly, but I'm really confused now.
I also assume that there could be no or little difference?

It's not just clock speed and mem clock, the SE simply has a worse GPU with less stream processors and stuff like that.
I wouldn't SLI them. You're just dumping money into a pretty bad GPU, you'd be better off trying to sell the 460 SE and using that money + the other money you had for the other 460 (hopefully you didn't buy both already) and buying a better one, like a 560 ti, if possible.
You got conned. the Zotac 460 SE is a 1GB 460 with one set of shader processor cluster disabled.
or a 768MB 460 with an extra 332MB of RAM.

It's a frankenstein GTX 460 heatsink he built himself from about seven different heatsinks he had because his stock one broke.

Uhh, two 460s do better than a 480, and a 480 does better than a 560ti. Also I doubt I'd be able to sell it for enough to be able to even get enough money for a 560ti.
and Zotac's own GTX 460 SE doesn't seem too much worse than Nvidia's normal 460, and it is better than nvidia's SE
What the hell, they ported the original Rollercoaster Tycoon to the original xbox back in 2001? lol
Just leaving this here.
Don't recommend you read this if you are susceptible to Mac VS. PC arguments. Thumbed for safety.

Oh god oh god oh god oh god
This new class is NOT cool. Not cool AT ALL.
It's rather deceptively named. BUS-242 Technology Optimization. I mean, what would you guess that is? It's a business class, so it's probably not a very technical one, but you'd imagine it's about... something. How to use technology for actual business purposes or something.
NOPE
Chapter 1 was basically the most content I've ever seen, and I've been reading this thread since V1.
The textbook is from 2008, but it seems to be a schizophrenic revision of a book from the late 90s.
Highlights:
30,000 hits per minute is apparently an extremely heavy load for a web server. It cites this as how much traffic CNN's site got during the height of the Starr Report, back in 1998.
Netscape is still a major web browser. Firefox is still on V2. Chrome goes unmentioned.
A processor's speed is determined by its instruction set, its word size, and its clock speed (no mention of multicore or cache).
56K dialup is still the most common way to access the Internet.
And that's just from the book. There's a few classmates that are, essentially, n00bs.
We had to whip up simple presentations as an in-class assignment. Nothing much - 10 slides or so. This one kid was the worst. His presentation was on "advanced web browser techniques" such as bookmark management. His presentation started with a demotivational poster of Barack Obama, and was pretty much just a random, pseudo-hip rewrite of the book's lack of knowledge.
How the flying FUCK did I not test out of this class?
So the Zotac GTX 460 se beats the normal GTX 460 on 'complex 3d'
according to some benchmarks I did. Only difference is that the one I'm comparing it to has an athlon instead of a phenom.

This shows SLI GTX 460s
I have the 460 SE, so can I at least expect to see performance a bit better than a 470, instead of a 480 like in the graph, or will I get just a bit lower than the graph?

Don't bother, like many macfags you just cannot give them a logical and sensible argument.
It always boils down to the fact they cannot use a PC properly, and believe everything Apple's warped advertising shoves down their throughts.

Caitlyn, the fat neckbeard.
Additionally, what were those random things like "You don't have to update your editor programs like you would on Windows"? Nonsense, you don't only have to update them but sometimes they're not even compatible with the version of Mac OS you're using!
Luckily that mostly happens with Apple software and not third-party.

Just do it then, an SE isn't as bad as I thought, but I'd overclock it a bit since they're good overclockers apparently.

Just buy a tapping set (most come in sets with different sizes) an' some rod strong enough to be used as a screw, but weak enough so that you can cut it.
