* Not Canadian * Not a school IT guy * Not burly * Not a lumberjack Myth busted.
woah why was I under the impression you were German all of this time
Had a DVD that was scratched beyond belief, and I was bored. So I took apart the fan I've been using to cool myself down for a while now and put it between the part that keeps everything together and the blade that blows the air. The fan is now sliding around on my desk. Fuck. [editline]16th September 2011[/editline]
woah why was I under the impression you were German all of this time
I have to admit, I've made the same mistake a few times since I started "Facepunching" around in the Lua scripting section, particularly in the Stargate thread, and for some reason my brain links aVoN and GMan together.
woah why was I under the impression you were German all of this time
What gave you that idea? His flagdog is American.
What gave you that idea? His flagdog is American.
Country flags are a relatively new addition, I imagine it was a preconception he had when he joined quite a while ago.
Ask him his thoughts about the RIAA. It's a surefire way of finding Gman, his (perfectly justified) rage will blot out the sky.
Thought i heard some thunder earlier tonight. Who asked
Leaving germanyland tommorrow morning
Well, the amount of money you payed for it isn't really expressed through what hardware or software it has, so it just has to overcompensate in any way it can, like that silly fanfare when you open Safari for the first time. (I think it's to keep the more simple users entertained)
You realise that when you open Chrome for the first time it plays a flashy little thing too
You realise that when you open Chrome for the first time it plays a flashy little thing too
Are you sure? Never noticed.
Oh hey look, it's that overpriced graphics card:
My internet went down tonight and all I did was plug my phone into my computer via USB and enable tethering and here I am, browsing/watching videos and streaming music at a reasonable speed (0.5Mbits), it boggles the mind at how far we've come in technology, just 100 years ago we were still using gas lamps, I should appreciate it more.

If it wasn't expensive it wouldn't make sense. [editline]15th September 2011[/editline] About to talk to Dell about a replacement monitor. But they require a business name. Fuck
Here's something I found out about facebook that's pretty annoying (not sure if it's been brought up anywhere). If a friend joins up in a group and posts on it, and invites a few other friends and you to join in and they join and post on the group, you automatically get added into the group regardless of if you joined it or not. This is very annoying since I have friends around the world, so the group isn't necessarily in the languages I know as well as I generally don't join groups. They also seemed to have added settings for the group to be able to email you if you're automatically added.
why dont we just merge this, quick questions, and design moves since noone can use the right one >:@
I like how Facebook allows me to disable notification emails about stuff, but still sends me emails saying I have "missed notifications". I don't even like Facebook, the only reason I have an account is so everyone I know will fuck off asking me to get one.
Woops, I didn't even notice those threads were there :s (bad excuse, I know)
I just ask questions here because it's the most active and usually people don't mind. Speaking of questions, what C++ compiler should I use for windows? Free, preferably.
Speaking of questions, what C++ compiler should I use for windows? Free, preferably.
Hand compile it.
I just ask questions here because it's the most active and usually people don't mind. Speaking of questions, what C++ compiler should I use for windows? Free, preferably.
I've heard VC++ compiler being recommended. I used MinGW while on windows, which can be tricky to get set up, but works pretty good.

I've also heard good things about the Intel Compiler, but I've never used it myself.
http://www.codeblocks.org/ is pretty good. Supports a lot of compilers too (MinGW, GCC, I think a couple of Visual Studio versions if you have them installed, and a bunch of others)
Okay, what the hell is up with this mouse? I got a new mouse today, to replace my dying old one (it no longer clicks properly - one click will register as 2-4 clicks). Nothing much, just a $20 Logitech wireless, since that was literally the cheapest one that would fit my hand well. I'm really liking it - it's more comfortable, more sensitive, and less bulky - but there's one thing that's driving me nuts. The power switch does nothing. Seriously, it's been in the "off" position for about three hours now. Still works just fine. I have no idea why they have that switch if it's just going to stay on anyways.
You realise that when you open Chrome for the first time it plays a flashy little thing too
I've never seen Chrome do that on Windows or Linux yet.
I'm content. Hard drive stops working, so I check the connections, and all seemed fine. Check mobo and PSU and all is fine. 2 year old drive so I assume that it is fucked, order a new one. That doen't work, either. Come back to the issue this morning, notice that the cables were all fine but I had forgotten to check that the cable attached to the PSU was attached to the cable that I had in my hard drive. Turns out that I'd accidently disconnected the power cable in the socket it has in the middle and not noticed for 6 days. I'm a fucking idiot. On the bright side, I've no longer got to worry about having no harddrive space. Is it bad that I assume that everything is out to get me, rather than check what the fuck I'm doing?
Search for ${ on google and google breaks :v: [editline]16th September 2011[/editline] In other news i just ordered this:
I believe I mentioned earlier about ducktape and a hairtie? Yeah. (The hair tie is barely seen. It looks like the cable's shadow, but it's not. If you pull on the hair tie, the system shuts off.) MacGyver anybody? It's also now hunkered down and hooked up to a screen, keyboard, and mouse. It's stationary, forever. (My Laptop.)
My acer laptop charger is exactly the same, I've bought 3 replacements and they have all started squealing then exploded. [editline]16th September 2011[/editline] Thank god my dell charger is built better.

I've only had two chargers die on me, one squealed and the other up and died with no explanation or noise one was an HP charger, the other was an Asus for my current netbook I hate laptop chargers, they're stupidly unpredictable
Also if anybody would ever buy me a title, I want it to be; "MacGyver". :v:
