I think I'll make his shit websites redirect to a fake webpage that says "THIS WEBSITE WAS TAKEN OVER BY THE FBI ON CLAIMS OF CHILD PORNOGRAPHY"
That should scare him off for a while.
[editline]10th July 2011[/editline]
or redirect them all to the FBI website :v:
If you're going to make a fake FBI site at least model it after the real one. The easiest way to do this is by looking at it's 404 page and going from there.
well, my day just got ruined. My hard drive just failed. I guess it was doomed anyway being four years old and only being 250gb (I am on my iPod)
Dear god, my dad only had the laptop for 4 hours yet he managed to go on 15 porn websites and installed 4+ viruses
I think I should educate him on safe porn websites but that would be rather awkward :v:
When he's gone, install MSE and Adblock Plus, remove all bookmarks relating to porn and add tblop.com to his desktop.
Done.
What would be a good laptop suggestion for my grandma? She's never had a computer before and just wants something to use to browse Facebook and maybe use Skype. I live across the state from her (about a 5-6 hour drive) so I won't be able to help her fix issues such as viruses if such a problem occurred very easily. Any suggestions?

buy an asus, reinstall the os as to get rid of bloat, put MSE and skype on it as well as set up teamviewer anytime access so you can help her

asus has the lowest failure rate out of laptops so that's why i say asus
My friend is trying to convince me that Valve picked 500 people for the Half Life 3 beta, and his friend is one of them. He apparently went over to his house and watched him play it for 10 minutes. I just argued with him for about 30 minutes about it

I would recommend some sort of Android tablet if that's all she's doing. Maybe a refurbished / second hand MacBook of some sort (Upgraded to the latest OS), considering they're dead simple to use once setup. If she wants games or other premium applications, the Mac App store would be a lot better than the sketchy shareware sites my grandmother uses.
Another alternative would be getting a mid-priced laptop ($500-700) that's more focused on battery, weight and has a good webcam. Ubuntu Netbook Remix can be installed, though I've had varied experiences with Webcam and Wifi drivers in Linux. Maybe see if you can find a detailed components list somewhere and check their compatibility beforehand.
If it comes to it, Windows 7 is fine. However, you should recommend her a paid AV like NOD32 (Free might suffice, I would use MSE if she can't spare the money). Make sure it runs a scan every week during the night, tell her to leave it on before going to bed on a Friday for example.
Setting her up using a limited account would help security too.
Installing something like Teamviewer or Logmein Free will be essential. If she isn't experienced with computers, the most trivial things to you will still be difficult to explain. After using Logmein Free for years on my grandmother's laptop, I feel like mailing them a check because of all the time it saved me. "Go watch TV for a bit, I'll call you when I'm done" is much better than getting her to input POP3 settings over the phone to get her email to work.
Another thing. I assume she doesn't have email. Get her a GMail account, rather than using her ISP's email service. Both my mom and grandmother are using the absolute crap SquirrelMail accounts with 7 MB of space and no ability to format HTML emails correctly. I'm going to get them all setup with GMail soon...
Thanks for the input, my grandma and grandpa have never had internet at their house so they sort of want to jump in. My grandma actually ended up buying an iPhone 4 for her birthday the other month and that's why she wants a laptop, to sync pictures and email her friends and such. I've been thinking a macbook or somthing similar (money isn't exactly a problem with them) and I'll probably end up setting up some sort of remote tool. I'll be visiting them soon so we'll probably take a trip to best buy unless someone posts the perfect deal on something.

apple laptops are pretty nice too but if she does get one get her the lowest model because she doesn't need the high powered ones
looks like the Spinpoint F3, new RAM, and a new instal of windows is all coming sooner than expected

A few friends were trying to get around the censorship thing by buying it on a US account
It didn't work but I ended up getting two Bills Hats in TF2, it was awesome until trading came out and the things became a fucking currency :saddowns:

Tuck it under you bed and make a file server.
Or just ship it to me, my dad dropped the poor Inspiron 1525 again and he killed the HDD. I need a fucking server with something better than a PIII :argh:
So did his account get locked or what?
Ah I've never heard the term used so I thought it meant his account got locked.
Oh my god im reading engadget comments on the 'best gaming laptop' article. Half of the suggestions are MacBooks and MacBook Pros. I swear, the site is filled by apple fanboys. I was also reading another 'android or iphone' article and the comments included stuff about how IOS5 would change mobiles forever with it's innovative features. Everything in iOS 5 is copied from android.

Saddeningly, they're right.
When Android first put them in, everyone else was like "ehh" and ignored it. Not Apple. When Apple puts it out everyone's going to start with "OMG APPLE HAS IT WE MUST HAVE IT TO BE IPHONE KILLER".

What is different in this computer is that it has 2 x Intel Xeon X5650 6 Core (with 12 Threads each) Processors with a Overclock speed of 3.6 Ghz. That mean you have a Total processing power of 12 Cores with 24 Threads with a speed of 3.6 Ghz (24 x 3.6) = 86.4 Ghz. NOTHING CAN EVEN COME CLOSE TO THIS COMPUTER !!!!
Dear god.
