Hung out with friends to get all you can eat pizza at some pizza place today.
He brought along one of his friends, and of course, we started to talk about videogames.
He said that a 360 is better than a high-end gaming PC. He tried to prove it, but one of his "facts" was "The 360 has 5 gigs of ram and a 6 ghz processor!"

Did you ask him where he sourced his info from?

He probably "hacked" his 360 in some way.

it's actually got 512MB of RAM (shared system and graphics), and a tri-core PPC processor w/ hyperthreading, so 6 logical cores. I'm not sure about the clock speed, but it would be safe to say that it's somewhere between 2-3GHz. It's also got the equivalent of an nVidia GeForce 7000 series card (can't remember the exact model right now, but it definitely wasn't a really high end 7000 series card).
If you are wondering why big game studios are hovering away from PCs, it's probably because they'd have to optimize the shit out of something they designed to even run on current gen low-end hardware. 95% of people running Steam have at least twice the amount of system RAM as the 360's shared RAM. 80% of people running Steam have more VRAM than the 360 has shared RAM.
But of course rendering to 360p-720p and upscaling to 1080p isn't all that uncommon, so you can also cut down texture size and geometry detail a lot...

It's OK, I died enough on BFBC2 to make up for it.
Steam just TKO'd my bank account...
Fuck.
Think that's bad, I spent so much that I thought for a second that I'd gone overdrawn when buying X3 due to the fact Natwest update their statements at snails pace (turns out I've just got like £2 left after doing the sums)
I seem to have made it out of the Steam Sales pretty good. Only got Just Cause 2. Would have gotten more but i had some monetary fuckups with my card so i could only use a paypal with 10 euro to buy stuff :saddowns:
Borderlands GOTY pack would not have been bad
My netbooks CPU is 75c
I probably shouldn't leave it in direct sunlight :v:

What's the max temp for an Atom before it gets unstable etc?

Return the favour, I just ate a single habanero-chip.
Habaneros are between 100k-350k Scoville units.
I want to die right about now.

I think it is probably when it crashes.
Over 100C atleast, 75C is nothing compared to my fathers 100C at idle.
crashes at 115C.
Oh my god im reading engadget comments on the 'best gaming laptop' article. Half of the suggestions are MacBooks and MacBook Pros. I swear, the site is filled by apple fanboys. I was also reading another 'android or iphone' article and the comments included stuff about how IOS5 would change mobiles forever with it's innovative features. Everything in iOS 5 is copied from android.
The best gaming PC article was hilarious.
This one Macfag kept regurgitating, "but the iMac has a core i7, it will play all of your games flawlessly!" all the way down his thread while everyone with a brain told him that it had a shit laptop GPU inside it.
I think we should start going to Engadget for content, seriously.
A netbook that gets over 100c? :wtc:

I tried one of those once, tasted awesome but by the end of the day we had no milk left.
A netbook that gets over 100c? :wtc:
Wait, no.
It is a laptop, HP CQ60 or something like that. Has pretty nice specs too.

Haha, you have shitty milk in Finland!
That milk is pretty much like water so yeah, no luck for you.

You are aware lots of different types of milk?
There's 4,5% fatty milk, there's 2% fat, 1% and some with no milk.
Then again, I'm lactose intolerant.
And the milk worked just fine. We're talking about habanero chips here, not a pure habanero itself.

As far as I know, it's the PS3 that uses a 7000 card, it's equivalent to a 7800GTX.
The Xbox has a 3.2GHz CPU and something resembling an ATi X1950XT, which is the R400 series I believe?
I heard the cellbe is 3.2GHZ too.
its GPU is actually an overclocked 7800GTX
my job is teaching people how to use the internet safely and other computer functions (and teaching maths and English, but mostly computers)
but just teaching people how to type makes me want to rip out my own hair
had to show someone what key "makes the space for the next word"
A.K.A. the space key
oh... god..
i guess if you do something enough it becomes second nature, but god damn this job will kill me.

Both of them have been modified though.
Apparently the 360 is DX9, but the GPU has been modified, along with the software and it can pull off some DX10-specific stuff.
That's what I've heard, at least.

I really wouldn't mind a job like that. It sounds like easy work anyway, I enjoy computer repair more, though.
lol

In all seriousness, I can't imagine any computer-related job paying well / being enjoyable / being anything other than a "dead-end job".
Don't take this the wrong way. I love computers. I just can't see myself enjoying a career of computer things and likely not being paid very well for it.
NNGGGGGHHH ANOTHER TELEMARKETER
It was from a mobile phone number instead of the usual fucking 09 area code so I answered it.
Fuck this.

Unfortunately the only way to make money out of normal, house call, IT Jobs is to rip people off.

You obviously didn't look into the senior development fields.

I want to manage IT at VALVe :v:

Yeah, when the same company that creates DirectX makes a console, I'm sure they could modify both sides to get DX10 features on 9 like you say.
On another topic, I always thought the original Xbox was cooler, it was almost literally a PC. It had a PIII chip, a GeForce 2 series GPU, and even its OS used the Win2k kernel.
Which 'DirectX' would the Xbox have used, since its release year was around 2001?
I'd be an intern janitor at Valve.

It is rare, but completely doable to land good jobs in the PC market... Two examples, both at each end of the extremes so not very typical.
My cousin got an internship while he was in college working with Simon Property Group. He did such an amazing job they hired him full time as their IT head working directly with the owners and executives. He had crazy pay and all of the latest gadgets when this was going on. He had top of the line laptops that only CEOs were carrying around. He was extremely lucky to get the job.
A family friend always worked on computers and displayed his skills and his work ethic and he recently (the last 5) got hired as the head director for all of Clarian Health computer systems. Again, not typical but completely doable.
Both jobs are 6 figure a year jobs with extremely nice perks.
