http://www.archlinuxppc.org/ Got an old Powerbook G3. Shall I try and breathe some life into it, y'know, make it actually useful?
On the topic of the original Xbox, someone (cough GMan cough) should do a long post on Microsoft's fuck up in regards to the CPU and security. Long story short, the dev units were running Intel CPUs that had a special way of shutting down the CPU. On retail units they switched to AMD and the CPU would roll over in address space instead of crashing on the top of the space and shutting down, which allowed people to dump all kinds of nice shit from the console.
goddamn, i thought one of the first vulnerabilities you test for are buffer overflows.
Apparently not, seems not even Nintendo do, it's one of the main vulnerabilities in the Wii and why it's so popular with the softmodding community. [editline]12th July 2011[/editline] It's also why I love my Wii.

The Wii and DS are ridiculously easy to "hack" (if you count a flash cart as hacking). Edit: I believe the 3DS has been hacked, too, but I haven't heard much about it.
goddamn, i thought one of the first vulnerabilities you test for are buffer overflows.
That was their idea of how to shut down the CPU. But AMD offered a better deal than Intel when they were going into production so there wasn't any time for testing. It was clear as day on the specifications but they didn't even think that a CPU from another manufacturer would act differently, after all, they're both x86 and the guys on the Windows side of things haven't been complaining about it.

Asking is always a bad idea when no is a possibility.

I was wrong about the Xbox CPU thing. The prototype Xboxes actually had AMD CPUs, and AMD was late to the market so they didn't include the legacy-functionality that Intel had in their Pentium III's because nobody used it anymore. Then Intel made a deal with Microsoft and boom.
Oh god, I was genuinely scared for a while there.
Oh god, I was genuinely scared for a while there.
If we hadn't gotten this section back I was already planning on leaving.
If we hadn't gotten this section back I was already planning on leaving.
That makes 2 of us. Well.. I would've probably resorted to photography, maybe.
Whoa, Where the fuck are we?
If we hadn't gotten this section back I was already planning on leaving.
Yeah, theres really nothing else interesting on this forum. LMAO pics is shit Mapping is a slow section Web Design is without content and Fast Threads is pointless.
lol im gunna b a pilot not sum stoopid compootr worker gettin minmum wage hhahahhahaaah [Editline]July 11 2011[/editline] [Sp]it hurt to type that[/sp] [Editline]July 11 2011[/editline] In all seriousness, I can't imagine any computer-related job paying well / being enjoyable / being anything other than a "dead-end job". Don't take this the wrong way. I love computers. I just can't see myself enjoying a career of computer things and likely not being paid very well for it.
Actually the average IT working corporate or government jobs can expect at least 60k a year here in CT.
What would I do without H&S
I've been thinking of trying to get certified... for something. I work in the IT department at this Siemens branch, so I'm getting experience. It would be good to have something in writing.
Client: We want a website that looks minimalist and fresh, like [a local department store]’s. Me: That’s a great starting point Client: The most important feature is professionalism. Clean lines, lots of white space, so our customers know we mean business. Me: Sounds great! Any other fundamentals? Client: Have you seen the website for Chiquita Banana? Me: I - no, I’ll have to check it out. What do you like about the site? Client: It has these cute bananas with sunglasses that walk around and dance and stuff. We want something like that. There is some great stuff there
Shades of blue Client: I don’t like that blue, make it a bit lighter. Just a small bit! I send the (unchanged) file back to her. Client: Hmm, ok thats too light, make it a bit darker. I send the same file - again, unchanged. Client: Ok just ad a hint of brightness and we’re done! Again, same file, unchanged. Client: Perfect! Has anyone told you that you are amazing at what you do?
Don't seems to bad after all. Not a hard job directly :v:
"Did I hire you to be bound by what’s possible?"
Almost sound like a good motto to me
